And about the Pelé vs. Maradona clash I have this to say:
If you look at both men's total career's and personalities Pelé probably was the best. But I want to look at the peak of both men's career's and keep everything off the pitch out of it since it has nothing to do with football.
Maradona's career had its peak in 1986 when he led a team of football workers to the World Cup title and another team of football workers to the Serie A title. Pelé always had good players around him in the national side. What Maradona did in 1986 is something that no other football player has even been close. His peak was the highest any player has ever had and ever been close. Maradona is the best ever in my point of view.

Most (young) people choosed for Maradonna, simply because they never seen Pele and Cruijff played.

Cruyff was a great player but not in the same league as Pelé and Maradona.

so pelé is really the greatest, he got to be the best even being around a lot of great players! i doubt maradona could get it around that kinda players.

i agree with han, for me cruijff was better than diego. and i'm still undecided (and maybe never get decide) about who's better: maradona, garrincha, puskas or di stefano. :mambo: :mrpimp:

Pele has become lame FIFA *** kisser! what the hells he doing making commercials about errection problems? as if he hasnt got no money... anyway he was a great player but i havent seen as much of him in action as i have maradona & di stefano well ive only seen one match of his - Real Madrid 7 vs Eintracht Frankfurt 3 ... What I meant was that Pelé wouldn't have won even one World Cup with the surroundings Maradona had.

I don't rate Maradona that highly. For every wonder-goal he scores he replies with a hand-of-god, for every dribble he replies with a bag of coke.

Diego Maradona has never scored in a World Cup final. Pele has.

As for Johan Cruyff, I rate him because of his leadership on and off the pitch. And how about the Cruyff turn? Which other footballer can have a technique named after him? (other than Bosman with the Bosman ruling!)

well probably you're right but almost all squads were stronger in pelé's time than they were in maradona's time.

and i still think cruijff was better than maradona even he couldn't get a world cup.

Cruyff was robbed of the World Cup in 1974 when Holland outplayed West Germany in the final but lost 2-1.

well when i said the squads were stronger i'd mean the squads were better - they had better players than in '86.

and pelé got to the be the best around a lot of great players.

Well I think had the players of that time 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's been up to the defenders of today, they wouldn't have had as much success. These players, cruyff, maradonna, puskas, pele etc have been made legends because of ppl talking about them for decades, so they automatically become "great" players in ppl's minds. I mean, I watched Pele play England in that 1970, he really didn't play much part in it. Maradona scored only a few good goals. But for me, I would say Johan Cruyff. I mean c'mon, he had a turn named after him!! lol:p

But some of the goals he scored were simply amazing, his footballing brain was very good.

However, in 20 years time, I wonder if we will say people like Beckham, Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Figo as greatest ever?? Players need about 20 years after they're retired before people to remember them as greats. But, now, I feel less of the current players are being regarded as "Greats" as there are simply more footballers, people will not remember greats. If you remember Ryan Giggs, he was massive about 5 years ago, but people just forget these days, too fickle.
