Internazionale 13-07-2002, 11:10:PM Is danger zone talking about Australia v New Zealand in the Oceania Nations Cup final ? danger zone 14-07-2002, 01:27:AM The weather was terrible. It was too wet to run the ball so they kept kicking for territory. As for the Oceania final, I haven't seen nay of it so couldn't say if NZ has a chance. man united forever 14-07-2002, 05:49:AM New Zealand have so far been far more convincing than the Aussies in the Oceania Nations' Cup. The mighty Tahiti took the Socceroos into golden goal extra time before losing 2-1:D. I'd probably fancy the All Whites in tonight's encounter(perhaps it's just because I want NZ television to show the Confederations' Cup:D) Da Twig Man 14-07-2002, 07:29:AM Originally posted by man united forever New Zealand have so far been far more convincing than the Aussies in the Oceania Nations' Cup. I think it is because we are playing with our NSL players and none of our full strength players from other leagues :D But then again I cannot talk really...... because New Zealand probably have 'less popular' players than us :D man united forever 14-07-2002, 08:00:AM Originally posted by Da Twig Man Yeah for some reason Australia suck..... If the Aussies had Kewell, Viduka, etc. they would have won the competition last week:D:D. But now New Zealand have a realistic chance. Da Twig Man 14-07-2002, 12:04:PM Australia Just lost the Oceania nations cup Final 1-0! I do not believe it! If the winner of the OFC Nations Cup goes to the World Cup then New Zealand will be there, not Australia! And we will have to wait ANOTHER 8 years! lol!! I am laughing but I am also shocked about this! I am just hoping that NOW they haven't decided to go through with the Oceania cup winners qualifying for the WC! hermolt 14-07-2002, 12:25:PM Originally posted by Da Twig Man Australia Just lost the Oceania nations cup Final 1-0! Anyway, there's 2 Oceanian teams and a European one..soz Jono..:D Krypton X 17-07-2002, 12:51:PM It's funny how everytime Australia loses to New Zealand the local (Australian) media instantly labels it as a 'national disaster' usually more to reflect being annoyed at losing to NZ than the actual state of the game here. But this time i don't think they could've had a more fitting description. It was a tragic loss to say the least and it's all thanks to the self-proclaimed experts at Soccer Australia. After Australia's defeat to Uruguay in the WC qualifiers sponsorship money suddenly dried up and no one wanted to have anything to do with the team anymore. Soccer Australia, who were already in heavy debt back then, went back to the drawing board and set up an emergency plan to get the team by till the next world cup. The $1.5 million which Australia would have been given had they qualified to the Confederations Cup was an essential part of that plan. The morons at Soccer Australia banked on winning the qualifiers and now that the boys from across the Tasman managed to spring up an upset, they've had to see that cash they've been counting on along with that genius plan of theirs go up in smoke. To put things in perspective, the players on the Australian team which just played in the Confederations Cup qualifiers were asked to pay for their own expenses throughout the tournament, in other words, they paid for their airfares, accommodation, etc. The following was the starting line-up against the Kiwis: Petkovic (GK), DeAmicis, North, Trimboli, Durokovic, Mori, Porter, Chipperfield, Blagojevic, Costanzo, Juric almost half the team is aged over 30 and all the rest, with the exception of Scott Chipperfield, haven't played an international match for the socceroos since the ice age. The reason why we didn't have a more merited team contesting the tournament is that Soccer Australia didn't feel it was appropriate to ask some of the better known players to take part and bear their own expenses even though the whole impending future of the game in the country depended on it, and again it all goes back to the piss a$$ management of the Australian soccer board in the past. If those SA (Socc Aust) d1ckheads had any consideration for the welfare of the game in the country they would opt to resign now while they still had a chance to salvage some pride. Where's Johnny Warren when you need him. I am laughing but I am also shocked about this! I am just hoping that NOW they haven't decided to go through with the Oceania cup winners qualifying for the WC! EVERYONE has the situation mixed up. The OFC nations Cup has nothing to do with World Cup qualification, its just to determine the Continental Champions (like Cope America, and European Championships). However the Confederations Cup works by inviting one country from every continent (Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, South America, North America), plus the host and last years winner. The country invited is the winner of that countries Championships. So OFC Nations Cup and World Cup are irrelevant. Now as far as this being the first OCeania continental comp. that is wrong to. The Oceania Natiosn Cup has been ran 3-4 times b4.
