View Full Version : Man United = R and R
chatterbox 22-07-2002, 10:59:PM I don' t mean rest and relaxation when I say that they EQUAL R and R even though that is what it means.....anyhoo, First Rio Ferdinand, Second Rivaldo...who knows..if ofcourse this were to go down, thrown in EUROPEAN CLUB DOMINATION !
arthur 22-07-2002, 11:36:PM Wouldn't it be funny if Man U got Relegated and so Fergie Resigned.
Ubik Valis 22-07-2002, 11:37:PM YAAAAAAAWN! :mambo: :monkey:  :crazyboy: :brow:

PatasLocas 22-07-2002, 11:53:PM Man U got relegated in a game of CM I was playing... I thought it was brilliant.
playmate 23-07-2002, 12:03:AM does anybody else have a story like this:
'manu got relegated and i was so happy. then suddenly someone kicked my butt and oh gosh! it was morning!'
if u have don't feel shy ......... join this thread. welcome sir.
MikeM 23-07-2002, 04:56:PM I find it quite funny that some people devote more effort to hating United, than supporting their own clubs!
Mike.
PatasLocas 23-07-2002, 06:07:PM Actually... Hating Man U doesn't take much effort at all.

So absolutely right......just like it doesn't take much effort to become a glory hunter......:monkeyman: :mambo: :crazyboy: :D :brow:
ChRIsA 24-07-2002, 12:18:AM we already have the 4 R's. Rio Ferdinand, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane, and Ryan Giggs.
Why is it that eveyone automatically asumes that you are a glory hunter if you support United?
Maybe some United fans are glory hunters but there are a lot of genuine fans like myself.
Nimreitz 24-07-2002, 01:16:AM Well, let's just say that Manchester isn't the largest city in the world, and yet 50% of people not in England support Man U. Hmm? Why is this? Their glory hunters is why.
If you live in Manchester then obviously it is understandable.
cchow32 24-07-2002, 07:49:AM Many ppl support Man U cuz that's the only team they know. I've asked ppl before what team they support and they say Man U and then I ask them who's ur favourite player and they dunno anyone.
Digitarius 24-07-2002, 01:54:PM Manchester United, due to various reasons, are the best known club in both Britain and the world.
When you have heard of no-one but United, then it is likely that you will support the Red Devils.
United have worked to get where they are. They dominated English football throughout the nineties, and were justly rewarded their fair share of publicity.
People who can't handle that, well, just can't handle that.

playmate 24-07-2002, 10:53:PM if it's a rule laid down that u have to come from manchester to support manchester united otherwise u r a dirty glory hunter, then if u support liverpool and come from usa , i wonder what hunter u are??:crazyboy:
again if it's unethical to support united from outside manchester then why show the EPL on television? if it's not shown on tele then people wont know which team plays the best football and that would be a face-saver for some dumb defensive team, i guess.
arthur 24-07-2002, 11:24:PM What's wrong with being a glory hunter anyway? I'm the world's biggest Man U fan and I hope they win the Premiership and Champ's League next season. If they don't, then I'll start supporting Arsenal. What's wrong with that?

Thats just it, you are a Man U fan, rather than a Man U supporter.
A supporter actually supports United, goes to games and cheers them on and sticks up for them and feels sad when they lose.
A fan is just someone who takes an interest in United when they are winning trophies, but doesnt stick by them when they are doing badly.

have u ever thought about the non-glory hunters (hardcore) on the other side of the world who support united, cant go to games, would u call them a fan or a supporter? ( I've never met a united fan here who knows who someone like paul parker is. shows u how many "fans" over here have been supporting us since late nineties.)
schmeichel01 26-07-2002, 05:33:PM I think is great how every one that supports Man Utd has to be a glory hunter.
Notice how as soon as Arsenal win the premierleague there a lot more arsenal avatars and sigs floating around.
Unless you know the person don't call them a glory hunter. How do you know that person has only been supporting for 2 years? How do you know his family has not supported the club?
I have supported Man Utd since 1990-1991 Guess who won the old 1st division that season? Not Man Utd!
Because I am not from Manchester I get stick, but I was born in Rio de Janeiro, and I have supported my local club Flamengo since birth, I started supporting Man Utd, after visiting my Grandparents in England when I was 5.
johnnyboyuk 26-07-2002, 07:02:PM I started supportin wen I was about 11 or so, so that was about 1996/7. This woz the same time i started knowing anything about football. None of my family knew/cared about footy, well my mum woz the biggest, cos she used to watch Bristol city as a girl. So I got influenced at skool. So it was mainly manchester utd that got talked about. Hardly anyone even spoke about my local team. I started liking 'em a lot, tried to learn about all their players. I learned about most of the teams in the premier league.
Ideally I'd go see Utd every game that they play. Unfortunately it just ain't do-able!! Ticket demand, its very hard to get tickets for a game. Price - at the present time, I'd have to go with my dad, mum n bro, so that wud cost bout £100 for tickets, then having to pay for petrol to go to a game, plus about 4 hrs travel there, and 4 hrs back, so 8 hrs for one game. Thats why i can't "support" them as i'd wish.
Ppl sayin earlier that its no effort to bash man utd fans. Is that why u all go well out of ur way to make comments, wen none need be said. The envy is very pitiful. Just put ur negative enrgy in to positive enrgy, supportin ur own team.
A man utd fan/supporter who sticks by them, and doesn't support another team, is NOT a glory hunter. I've known ppl goin off supporting man utd, leeds, arsenal. But I made my choice to root 4 Utd, and that's my choice 4 life!;)

arthur 27-07-2002, 11:15:AM hmmm, but nobody has answered my question...what is wrong with being a glory hunter?
I mean, does anyone who is a transient "fan" of any team have to justify that? If I change which team I support every season to neatly coincide with whoever is the champions that season, I don't have to justify that to anyone.
I'll support whichever team I choose, thank you very much, just like I'll choose to wear what clothes I want to wear, eat whatever food I want, etc. Now I'm hungry...where's that packet of plasticine....
PatasLocas 30-07-2002, 06:06:PM There is nothing really wrong with it (being a glory hunter) as long as you enjoy that. If you want to always scream for who you know will win then great.... I don't have any love for any English teams but always find myself cheering for someone when I watch an EPL game.
Of course Hardcore "Supporters" will always think they are the real deal and Hardcore Haters will always call Man U people Glory Hunters.
NOW... You want Glory hunters? Try Real Madrid. That has to be the worlds most boring supporters in the world... A stadium filled with 60,000 glory hunters who don't sing, don't really cheer, don't do anything. They are horrible. The team is always great, but the supporters suck. Most of their world Wide Fan no nothing about the team... but hey... they win everything so why not love them right?
At least Man U fans go nutz for their team. I'll give them that.
Jambo Den 01-08-2002, 06:53:PM what annoys most people is (the ones that go to games frequently) is that most clubs cannot compete financially whereas these teams can delve into their far east fan base to generate income, they can do this anywhere arround the world whereas a club such as West Ham can't do this, thus making it almost impossible to financially compete.
Those in the country of their supported team but don't make any effort to go and see their team is where the term glory hunter is aimed at, and for their excuse of 'it's too far away to Old Trafford'..... B*LLOCKS. I have been all over the continent following my team, Hearts, so you can't use that excuse. And I loathe people who used to tun up to matches, but don't if theree team does not perform as well. They are too ignorant to understand a club needs their fans most through time of difficulty, if they still turned up, then maybe gaps between the Old firm and the rest of the SPL might not be as large. *f***:
well it seems that doubtly that manchester will get relegated this season but if so it will be interesting but if they do they probably they would win there division and then get promoted again!!
i dont think some people will expect them to play very poorly like no wins just loss after loss and draw after draw!

But that's no reason to hate a club. Because they're successfull. That almost sounds like jealousy. West Ham can't do that because they don't win the Premier League, and they don't play in the Champions league. That's the only logical reasons for this. People from all over the world naturally support the best team, it's only natural. And you talk about fans not being there for their team when they are losing. When Man Utd were losing we were still getting attendences like 66874 people in the stadium. They still clap even after a lost match. I dunno why everyone hates Man Utd fans I mean, they are probably some of the best fans you can find. Thousands follow them to remote places like deep in Russia etc to support them. You always hear the commentators say:" At least 3 thousand Man Utd fans packed into the stadium"
Multiply 67000 by lets say 20 pounds. How much is that? No wonder we are rich. Plus our board of directors are smart. They make good business deals like signing with Nike etc, plus they are in the stock market. So you can afford to spend 30 million pounds without going bankrupt. I just think this hating of Man Utd fans thing is silly, cause I see some Liverpool fans from as far as Asia and no one bothers them.

I think that you can't blame teams like Man Utd for spotting a gap in the market and beating everyone to it.

I've been a lifelong fan of Man Utd and have not been to see them yet. You can say that's due to it being too far away because I wasn't going to rely on catching a train to get there and back, it would've been too expensive and you know what UK public transport is like. Therefore I've never had the opportunity.*
I definately wouldn't class myself as a glory hunter though because I never supported Liverpool or Arsenal or Blackburn or any other team that has won the league title.
* I will be going to see them this season though because I've recently passed my driving test which gives me the means to get to Old Trafford. Also I recently found out about the supporters club where I live so I will have the chance to get tickets and get a bus there. (Wouldn't have been able to before either because I've not long had the funds to be able to do this sort of thing)
