View Full Version : FIFA 2003 - is there any hope?
nickclubman 24-07-2002, 02:52:AM When you look at it EA SPORTS are very aware of the competition and should also be taking note on the future (PES2 anyone?). Konami are their biggest threat and they should be looking at making changes to their game to go up against Konami. The problem with EA is that their thoughts on how football in a video game should be played are very different to what us football fans believe/want. EA are game programmers and even if the odd programmer is a football player, he isn’t going to have his say in everything he’d like in the game. The Live chat with EA was ok I guess, but Nico simply cleverly answered the questions, by…not answering them and boasting about how he’s had a good w*nk over FIFA 2003 and how it is brilliant and how he has never been SOOOO excited about a product…until FIFA 2004 then Nico? :D
Personally I would say that FIFA 2003 will be an improvement (very small one) EA should be trying to make a realistic game and not sticking towards their rules…which don’t work, and only seem to have effect on gamers, not football fans!!
The true football fanatic will turn to PES, but maybe in the future, you never know.
What do you guys think, will FIFA 2003 be the same old crap, or will EA realise their competition as a MUCH bigger threat this time and actually make a better game?
Whatever happens, wait and play the demo then decide if it is worth your cash. Most people will download it, install it, play a little and start laughing!!!!

Hercules 24-07-2002, 03:28:AM The problem of it all is the difference in the definition of a successful football game. We, gamers, define a successful football game as a realistic, but yet enjoyable game, whereas, EA, like any other business coperation, define a successful game by the number of sales....and the problem is the number of sales will remain relatively high when compared to many other sports games, as there are so many football fans, and thus even if they do badly in relative terms, it might still have more sales than other perfectly decent sports games.....:(
Internazionale 25-07-2002, 01:20:AM Don't even bother with FIFA 2003. Stick with WE/PES.
sebazve 25-07-2002, 01:26:AM They better improve the ****ing gameplay.
I just hope that EA have listened to us, you know all the things, more fouls!!!!!!, the ability to make fouls with the goal keeper, hands, better shooting not so arcade, no more CPU cheatting, the argentinian league (take those useless leagues that nobody gives a **** like the Korean league, etc!!!) and please no more ****ing n°.. in the line up, come on this shows that you dont even try to make an effort to make a decent game.
EA forget about the ****ing graphics, just make a decent football game
jigger37 25-07-2002, 02:08:AM Well until those 'competitors' have the guts to make their games compatible with the PC-on which most people play the fifa series anyway-, EA can do whatever the fcuk they want an get away with it
::shinji:: 25-07-2002, 05:38:AM exactly, nobody else is even bothering trying to compete anymore...like what happened to the Uefa Challenges, Champions League Series, Actua Soccer, etc...sure they weren't great games, but at least we had options for the PC, now we're stuck with whatever EA throws out..
Hercules 25-07-2002, 06:07:AM They should really concentrate on gameplay, because most ppl who thinks PES/WE is better than FIFA, (which I have to agree with), is because of the gameplay. The graphics does not really matter that much, they should just leave the graphics easily editable, very open-ended, so that we, editors, can make full use of the editable facilities to improve the game. They should also make the game front-end structure (leagues, rosters etc) more open-ended, and easier to edit. I don't really mind if they don't include that many leagues, but just throw in an editor which allows you to add unlimited players, unlimited transfers, add unlimited teams, all teams can have customised stadiums, kits, flags, badges, crowds, but not necessarily included in the game originally. This way, they can save time, and make FIFA 2004 (realistically, we really should say these things for FIFA 2004, as I think 2003 would be nearly all done by now) stand out from the other rather pathetic attempts of WC2002, FIFA 2001, and to some extent FIFA 2002. They really have to do something completely different to get the fans back on their side....no point doing the same things....they should get that there are a lot of fans not content with the current situation, and thus shouldnt just sit there and do nothing.....DO SOMETHING! and not just edit the previous game a bit and release it as if it's the best in the world....(as in FIFA 2002 -> WC2002)
Tom Green 25-07-2002, 10:25:AM i see everyone saying "concentrate on gameplay, graphics are already good" well, let me explain you something:
Winning Eleven(on the psx) has MUCH better graphics than fifa wc2002 on any other system..when you play WE with the wide camera, you´ll notice the perfection of the huge variety of animations, the perfect transition between each animations,no sudden direction changes, perfect collision between players,no players going through each other, the ball moves so realistic that it bounces diferently depending on what part of the player´s body it hits, when you make a pass you see the players smoothly moving, you see them reacting to the ball movements, when you shoot, you see the BEAUTIFULLY animated movements of the players, there are TONS of ´em,you cant just make the same shoot over and over again, the keepers move perfectly, react perfectly..
Now,ill talk about FIFA WC 2002..
first of all, those GODDAMN cinematicas, you see the players from too close, those damn huge horrible players that have brightly colored kits..all the players look the same, just with diferent faces.. then when the match starts is when the real pain begins, you get the ball, start passing, get the ball again,do the same exact pass again because there are like 2 f0cking passing animations, you see the players sudenly changing directions, the transition between walking/running animations is just awful..you cant pass while running, when you finally get to the other team´s box(wont take you too long, the pitch is dead f0cking small) and you shoot,omfg..when you shoot, that horrible, awful, grotesque shooting animation plays..and the ball goes crazily from your player´s boot and into the net.. everytime you shoot, you do it the same way, because there is only one f0cking gay shooting animation..and its totally unrealistic, the keepers move like crap too..and one of the awful things about the game is the sh1tty collision system..when you tackle a player, and you see the replay, you see how your player barely touches(or goes through) the other player..grotesque,just GROTESQUE...thinking about this game pisses me off so much, its just..so annoying..so f0cking crappy it makes you sad..
im just happy god put Winning Eleven in my life, cause seriously...there is no comparison
Vishal 25-07-2002, 12:32:PM I think EA knows what they gotta do. I wonder wtf is going on coz I didnt see any thing about FIFA in the CAMP EA stories on the web.
We have said it again and again what they need to do, Its been going on for 3 years now. If they cant get it right they can go and fk themselves. Fudge packs.

Yep, they can do exactly and I mean EXACTLY that, they don't have the knowledge to make a good football game and we have given them that knowledge and they throw it back in our faces, I just hope something really bad happens to their sales if 2003 doesn’t live up to (what they obviously will give) hype.
Anyway, like you said if they don't get it right this time they can go F*CK themselves for all eternity!

::shinji:: 25-07-2002, 10:00:PM Some of us seem to think that the fact that EA hasn't really said anything about 2003 yet is maybe because they've actually made something totally different this time and don't want to hype it up too early...ofcourse, that's just blind optimism talking and I'm sure it'll just be Fifa2002 with a few useless updates that nobody cares about
We can hope but with there track record it is not likely. The graphice will be great as usual but what will the gameplay be like? That is the key. I really do hope they can turn it around but only time will tell I guess. For now, I thank god I have a psx emulator and ISS PE2.
Here is hoping Fifa 2003 is the game we have wanted for a long time.

Yep, it really is that sad, I just don't want to believe that EA won't make it realistic and the overall game will be boring, non-exciting gameplay with graphic upgrades, but the dissapointing side to is...IT WILL BE!!! :(
I can know it will be, EVERYONE SHOULD BY NOW KNOW IT WILL BE THE SAME OLD SH*T THAT EA MAKES EVERY DAMN YEAR!!!!!!
Man, needed to let that off my chest... ;)

hristostoichkov 27-07-2002, 01:27:PM EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW IT WILL BE THE SAME OLD THAT MAKES EVERY YEAR!!!!!!
Every ****ing year makes the same mistakes and the game is ALWAYS crap. They are cool with it cos they sell copies and get a money.
I was just wondering... Would the Fifa have the same sucess if they didn´t have the licences? I think they would not.
Dervish 28-07-2002, 05:25:PM I have to say the WC2002 was ok.
Have had Fifa games in the past and thought by now the gameplay would have caught up.
Got Fifa 2002 - gameplay was/is dire slightly tougher opposition, but for the wrong reasons. Little relevance to player skills.
Players seem unable to ride tackles. Despite high level of strength, or speed etc.
Frequently regardless of cam angle, the ball will disappear from view, so i can only strike random buttons hoping to get the ball.
Having said that in WC2002 the keepers would decide to run out of the box towards the corner flag when a long shot/fk came in fom the oppostion .... which kinda confused me.
The three skill levels seem rather strange.
I like to settle in to the controls again, with the easiest and then work my way up.
I found the easiest fifa2002, was like the WC2002 toughest at times.

X-Ter 17-04-2003, 03:12:PM i think fifa 2003 is really good but they still need to make A LOT more realistic:kader:
::Jason:: 17-04-2003, 04:19:PM Fifa2003 is badly coded. It mostly lags like hell in multiplayer and the game is slow too, even though I have 2.5ghzP4 and 256ddr ram. Sometimes it works like a dream and sometimes like an ass. :f***:
There is no hope even for FIFA 2004, when ISS goes to PC. Why ? Cos` I just read at Soccergaming, that EA travel around Europe to do a very important thing to improve the game`s realism which is . . . . . . . . yeah, recording chants.
I mean, WTF ??? THEY CAN DO BETTER THINGS, LIKE RESEARCHING WHO KICKS WITH THEIR LEFT AND WHO KICKS WITH THEIR RIGHT FOR CHRIST`S SAKE !!!!!! AND AGAIN CHANTS ???? WE CAN EDIT THEM !!!!! WHAT WE NEED IS GAMEPLAY, IS THERE TO MUCH DICKS IN THEIR BRAINS TO UNDERSTAND THAT !!!!!
ChRIsA 17-04-2003, 07:59:PM Other than general gameplay I want EA to come up with an original idea(s). You look at the game and look how many things in there were in Fifa before any other game and I cant see many.
Fifa was the first to have real names, thats about it. Maybe they had real stadiums before anyone else, and I think cinemtics were first seen in Fifa.
Many of the recent ideas have come from other games, like highlights at half and full time (PES), Coloured crowds (seen in many games such as champ league), the Club Championship is a copy of the Master League in PES, only not as good, coloured boots- ISSPE had them first, power bar on shots (ISSPE again).
USE YOUR BRAINS EA!!!! AND DO SOME RESEARCH ON FOOTBALL!!!

Actually highlights has been implemented on FIFA 97, but then they took it away for FIFA 98 ( the very first sign that they have a bad habit taking away cool features . . . ), unlike Konami who added more cool feature everytime they release a new game without taking one, EA tend to give one cool new feature but taking two cool feature from the previous serie away.
This news was taken from EA SPORTS' FIFA Football 2003 Website.
There are certain rituals that have become synonymous with football, such as parading the team’s colours, meeting with friends for a pre-match chat and buying a programme. However, none are so unified and as intimidating to the opposing team as singing along to your clubs chants. An army of tens of thousands of supporters making known vocally their love for the club is a truly integral part of the football culture.
The FIFA Football Development team have identified this as an area they see of adding great value to the new EA Sports title.
To fully capture the local spirit and culture, the FIFA Audio team in collaboration with www.soccergaming.com, have tirelessly been on a European tour in the past couple of months. In each port of call (England, France, Spain, Germany & Italy) numerous audio sessions have been taking place with the fans so they can make their voice heard in game. The results have been filtering back in to the team and they are confident that they will create some truly hair-raising audio on a much larger scale for FIFA Football 2004.
EA SPORTS would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended the chant sessions. Inparticular Lior Fengas, Fabio "Rimo" Rimoldini, Christian Rojo Garcia and Daniel Kaltenthaler who spent many hours helping EA contact the chanters themselves. Scroll to the bottom of this page for a list of those who attended, along with some photos from the sessions.
The FIFA Audio team have let us get our hands on three of the chants in MP3 format. This will give you a good idea of the quality of the recordings, and the emphasis EA SPORTS are putting on creating a truly realistic football experience in FIFA Football 2004.
That`s the article I`ve copied and pasted from SG. Look at the last paragraph, a complete joke isn`t it ? I mean, do they really read our wishlist ? I know, I know some asked for more chants, but almost the majority asked for a better gameplay, an improved AI, an ability to head the ball for God`s sake. They can add the chant later when the essential stuffs finished, there`s no need doing a research for it. The core of every game is gameplay, a friendly control, that is the reason why whenever we try a new game, we always look to the control section and to remap the button as we like. EA didn`t even give a button remapping in FIFA 2003, how can they forget essential things like that ??? THOSE THINGS ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT TUNE DOES THE CROWD SING "GLORY, GLORY MAN UTD " !!!!!!!!
GANT3Aa 18-04-2003, 06:08:PM FIFA 2004 - is there any hope?
NO THERE´S NO HOPE AT ALL!!!!
if we want to play a decent football game we have to play something like we6fe/pes2 on ps2
or pes2 psx1 on pc with emulators or wait and pray for a miracle to konami release pes3 to PC
:crazyboy:

More chants are probably the only thing EA can do to improve the game. Gotta understand, EA's got a totally different aproach to realism. Bet there's a big crowd out there who are really excited about having more chants anyway.
So, you're wondering, 'what about Gameplay???'.
Yeah right, they already think its better than WE/PES. Just hope it's less buggy.
tonytobas1 18-04-2003, 09:25:PM maybe we should all petition FIFA and tell them that EA is making a mockery of their license and using it for the sole purpose of financial gain at the expense of peoples loyalty to the game...personally the only reason i was ever interested in the EA games FIFA series was cause of the added reality to play with 'real' players, leagues and stadiums etc...technically most other football games out there are better than FIFA gameplay wise and to me they deserve a shot at the licence...then to all you EA 'mommy little boys' then you shall see a game like winning eleven take the market by storm...and another thing EA put far more effort into Amercian sports cause they can't disappoint their amercian customers, but since they make more than enough money from the rest of the world from the FIFA series they can give us any horsedung and we'll gladly lap it up...i bought Simcity 4(buggy game)...but its already been patched twice and also had lots of downloads avaible in its first 3 months...and on the Simcity forum they have actual 'live' EA people moderating...the question is when we going to get a patch or something from EA for Fifa 2003...maybe in FIFA 2004????...it also seems to me that they do come to this forum and read...then they take the ideas and maybe pass it through some 12 year old kid in Indiana who then says "nah I don't like it"...then thats the end of that...ok i feel better now getting that off my chest
