Ok, the graphics look good, that's no surprise....unfortunatly, knowing EA, it'll be the ONLY thing that's good about Fifa2003 (as usual)

keep your fingers crossed..

Here's the link of the story plus the article. Copy and paste. :D
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scoop! FIFA 2003 revealed!
Web posted on 25/7/02 Check out the first ever screenshots of FIFA 2003, you won't see these anywhere else.
With the World Cup seemingly a distant memory, now we can begin to look forward to the domestic season again. In a few weeks time, Ronaldinho's fluke (I'll fight you behind the bike sheds if you disagree) will be completely forgotten, and our attentions will shift to Arsenal's defence of the Premiership. And what better way to hype up the beginning of the 2002-03 season with some exclusive screenshots of FIFA 2003 from EA Sports? And we score!

The shots below show off the silky new graphics, and the detail on the character models is quite phenomenal - a few FIFAs ago, you wouldn't be able to tell who a player was by looking at the back of his head, but it's clear the fella in the first shot is Rudy Van, the United man. Check out the Rusedski-like chin jutting out to the Old Trafford faithful. It has to be said, the crowds look a lot better too.

The packshot is presumably a temporary one, but we think the shadowy figure could be that of David Beckham (the hair's a giveaway), which is strange, seeing as he's licenced to Rage software until the end of eternity. Still, expect as big a name as Goldenballs to appear on the box when FIFA 2003 is released on all major formats this Christmas.

I don't think the graphics are very much improved,I'm curius to see if the technique ''when the camera is far from the players they look crapy as hell'' is still used. Most likely it will be because EA wants to have the requirements as low as they can(for more sales). The stadium is great,Phill Neville looks good in the 3rd screen, but who is the striker of Real Madrid? He doesn't look like Raul or Morientes.I wonder if the faces in the WC will be used as they awre or if they will be improved. And i don't like Ruud model at all!!!!He looks like ashort crappy guy.I think EA should had special models and body types for star players.I don't mean those WC star players(those were terrible and the idea of the ball burning, bliah!) but i mean famous players like Beckham Raul Zidane.Let's hope that they will get Zidane's head right. The guy does not have just a tiny bald spot,he is bald on almost all of the top of his hair, just the forehead and sides have hair!

ABOUT ''Beckham'' on the title:HE CANNOT BE BECKHAM.EA ALWAYS USES UNKNOWN MODELS IF IT"S ABOUT TITLE OR SHADOWS.YOU SHOULD BE SURE THAT IF THEY WANTED US TO BELIEVE IT'S BECKS THEY WOULD HAVE GOT A VERY SHINY PICTURE OF HIM.CMON GET SERIOUS,

IS THAT BECKHAM'S SHOOTING STYLE?

cheers.

BTW:another potato is before gates.

Soanis
26-07-2002, 10:16:AM
another thing i noticed:In the title this guy has short sleeves. As you all know Becks almost always wears Long Sleeves, and I don't think he would change that for a ''shadowy'' photo. After all he is Beckham.

and WTF is that with ball? All white?Crap.Crap.And the boots are also CRAP CRAP,all the same.BLIAH!

same old crappy boots...
stadium looks awesome...with faces also looking much better

the guy in the 2nd screenshot must be fernando hierro ( see the yellow armband )

guy on the fifa2003 cover might be umit Davala if its not beckham
kits also look much much much better...just look at ruud van nistelrooys shorts

lukas_svoboda
26-07-2002, 12:09:PM
I can see only a few improvements from these screenies:

1/ the keeper has exact kit
2/ players have their names on the backs of the shirts

not more... Let us hope that there will be more improvements in other parts of the game:

1/ more leagues (holland, portugal, greece, turkey, argentina,...)
2/ 2-4 teams from every country (russia, romania, czech rep, slovakia, croatia, hungary, poland, finland, chile, uruguay, mexico,...) in the REST OF WORLD section
3/ !!!! OFFICIAL FULL-FEATURED ROSTER EDITOR !!!!
4/ better AI

if these four requests were satisfied, this would make FIFA 2003 probably the best soccer game ever. And if Bolzer created a FifaFX for FIFA 2003, it would be better that best ;)

Oh no, I am getting pulled in by EA sports graphics again. Somebody stop me.
I think we need some info about the gameplay, but for now I have to say the graphics are very good. Its about time Old Trafford, the best stad in the world was included, and it looks fantastic.
I see loads of banners and badges, so I wonder if each team will have their own banners and boarding??
I see the scholes face looks the same as WC.
I think if the shooting system is improved I will buy the game, but I will make my decision based on the demo, rather than just pictures and info.

Hmm......I'm not sure if 'he' is Beckham or not, but from that pic, I think he is a captain from a top team, just look at his left arm, there's a certain captain armband.......but anyway, that's just my estimation.........sorry

Armed with an 'ALL NEW game engine' (their capitals), EA Sports are once again promising to address the gameplay problems that seem to bedevil the FIFA series. Crucially, developers EA Canada have spruced up the ball physics and after playing the game at EA's UK press event yesterday, we can attest to the massively improved feel when dribbling and, most importantly, passing, although at this stage vaporous defences are still in place.

As ever, though, it's the license that will sell the game this Christmas with over 175 licensed 'entities' - including 16 leagues, 450 teams and 10,000 professional players. You'll probably find Exeter City's much maligned 1974 under-11s secon team in there somewhere. Confirmation of this and more details soon...

EA Sports' uber-franchise is due to hit every format this November.

Graphics are always great. The problem is when players do short/long pass, shoot that really matters.

"Massively improved feeling when dribbling an passing"

It sounds very exciting...I like Ryan Giggs there well done 8ecks7 and El-gallo for finding the screenshots. The graphics engine looks totally revamped which I'm overwhelmed with! But what disappoints me is the crowd because they're all red just because it's at Old Trafford!! This is totally unrealistic. Hopefully this is changed for the final release.

Will everyone stop commenting on who they think is on the cover!!!! It doesn't really matter at all, I mean it's just a box, you'll see it a bout once when you buy it then thats it. Who cares who's on the front. It's the game that matters!!!!

I can't help feeling very excited even though I do every year and the same crap has come out..I'm slightly confident that this one may be addictive instead of a chore to play.

Come on EA, Make it Play!! :D

Clint Matthis.. not clont

Anyways, the new features are great, u can see player names, as well as the correct positions of the crest and equipment logo on the shorts. pretty interesting.

if u take a look at the sidelines, the new sideline files look pretty real too, although all the things in the OT have already been achieved 5 months ago.

Graphic wise, still ok, but remember this is a screenie frm PS2 and not PC. i bet EA will screw up once again. Remember last year when they promised fire flares... etc.. and i hope there's rotating adboards for stadiums in Italy and Spain.

Nevertheless, we hope for the best gameplay which im not sure that'll be achieved. hmm... EA has been quiet for some time, so perhaps this could be a blessing in disguise.. keep on working EA.

Well as always I will buy the game simply because i'm a Fifa-addict. Seeing the first screenshots I'm glad to see that Giggs finally has his own face and the textures look good as well.
They still can improve on it a lot before the game hits the shelves in november!
Old Trafford looks great as well, they carefully watched how Yj made it, there are a few matches there. If I where you YJ, i would ask them to pay YOU :D
The guy on the cover is definitely Becks, no doubt about that, I wonder who will be on the cover here in Holland since Ruud was the one on it last time!? Hasselbaink perhaps or van der Vaart?
Bergkamp was already on it a few titles back and so was Davids.
Who do you think it will be??

Yj
27-07-2002, 07:58:PM
well, maybe EA really did copy mine ...LOL

or perhaps mine is really so good that people like you can spot similarities with mine and EA's. But there are many possibilities, they could have used my model and use it as a base, like the textures etc, they don't have to search for them.

But still, i think my OT is better. Their OT looks kinda small, and i think they just addon from the previous STARS version where the huge stands had not been upgraded yet.

i see that they also copied me putting the managers and subs in the dugout, i don't remember EA doing that before, so they might be stealing ideas too.

It just seem too coincident that in WC 2002, EA had captain armbands to individual team, which turns out to be Ariel's idea... and now they're gonna implement higher sized textures? maybe? 2GK idea?... and individual GK kits... isnt' that GKPatcher?...

Well, if we really found out that EA has been copying our stuffs and works and implement into the new game without our consent, we could actually bring them down to earth.

Well, i'll see how it turns out in the real things before considering going to court...LOL~~

I totally agree.Every damn year they improve their quality on the graphics and the gameplay (the most important part in EVERY game) is always sh*t.

Iīm just asking they to COPY Winning Eleven series and put the crap "EA sports. Itīs in the game" in the begining of the game.Thatīs it. Is it so hard to do? :p

I say scrap the gameplay from FIFA 2002 and lets get back to automatic crossing and crisp passing on to players with magnet-like ball control. After all, the game is aimed at kids, or I am I just saying that cos my sons have been bugging me since November about FIFA being too difficult and not being able to cross the ball onto a waiting centre forwards head?

I mean lets face it these computers can support ridiculously high levels of GRAPHIC dETAIL, so who cares about gameplay? IT is such a shame that is comming down to this....Folks only seem to be wanting to hope that GAMEPLAY IMPROVES, but unfortunately, it doesn' t !

I nope they name the leagues and cp competitions right! Calling the UEFA Cup the EFA Cup sucks, so does calling the Champions League the European Champions Cup. Also, in FIFA 2002 EA called the Italian Serie A the Italian Division 1. Its little things like that that let the game down! Don't you think?

JsAtUsA As Ican see they don't have the new united jersey!

coz ManU's official kit lauch is on August 1st!

EA doesn't have licence maybe... but who cares, the kits EA make are nothing compared to ours...

and that's why i say, stop concentrating on gfx, concentrate on game engine, ball physics etc. and even real player faces are actually redundent if the gameplay suck.

Hercules
28-07-2002, 03:02:PM
I have to totally agree with Yj. I reckon what EA should do with graphics is just build the structures and the basics, and just chuck whatever in, we can build the rest. Like for kits, they should make the game accept high resolution kits, make player names on back of jerseys, something like that, which is much harder for us patchmakers to do. They shouldnt really bother that much about the frontend graphics, cos that could be easily changed using EA Graph and all the other utilities we have at the moment, it is the actually things that are embedded deep into the game code that they should be changing.

Same thing with other extra stuff like rosters, it doesn't matter if there is absolutely no real player names, and real team names, just chuck in an editor which allow us to change all the names, and structure of leagues, then it would be fine. Just make loads of teams and leagues, no matter if the names are right or not, since we can change them.

Real faces....what's the point, if you want real faces and no gameplay, just watch a football match or look at a photo. They have to get their priorities right. Make the gameplay good first, then the graphics. But no(!).....that doesnt get the sales, since customers just look at the graphics and not the gameplay when they buy it....that's the problem:(

Yj
28-07-2002, 03:40:PM
yea..

i hope one of the main Konami game engine designer quits and becomes a freelance, gathering graphic artists and programmers like us...

and create a totally new game.. for PC =)

blast EA off.. heck just look at their OT, what's the point when i can just build just as good, if not better :p

what's the point of a good giggsy face? We have Migge, Neo-neo, Chris...

Good kits? So what, we have JJ, Steven etc..

maybe, there are some Micro$oft PC limits which doesn't allow EA to create a good game engine. hmm

At my first look at the picture where Bartez is gona be catch the ball (fifa1 http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43683), I noticed
two things, which impressed me badly.
First – look at the defenders – one of them stays like a dump idiot (may be he saw something interesting in the stadium) and the other is coming out from the goalkeeper box!!! Meanwhile Bartez is about to catch the ball! Means – nobody from the defenders try to help him :(
Second – where the fcuk the other defenders and players? We may see only three players in red jerseys and where are the rest? Well, may be the reason is that this screenshot was taken from the training match, if so that’s ok, but why there are a referee and people?

Suppose, EA will produce another crap for children … as usually for the last years.

It might just be a randomly created silhouette of a footballer that isn't even meant to be anyone famous. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the answer.

Hi i have been waiting 4 pes2 for some time but the mew screenshots have made me interested again. To be honest i think the screenshots are taking from the new club champ.mode, and EA i believe will spend all their time creating perfect players for this mode with real life looks etc but leave the rest of the teams and countrys with the same ****ty random faces.I mean im from Ireland and after i rented wc2002 for my ps2 i obviously played the world cup with them and everyone on the team except roy keane had just two faces between them, they looked terrible. This is 1 of my main gripes with EA,only concentrating on their so called star players.PES make every player look like their real life counterpart, there are hundreds of faces to choose from and different hairstyles in it.Its excellent, especially editing players,FIFA 2002 had hardly any faces to choose from in the editor.Anyway we'll wait and c!Oh yeah club champ.mode is such a rip off of PES master league but copying that is a good thing in my book.

I hope EA suddenly realises that most gamers have a kick *** machine good enough to play Fifa at Quake 3 and max payne high graphics quality instead of using their lousy los res textures.

If you guys think those screenshots look good... see these below:

These are doom 3 beta screens taken in real time, not pre-rendered. I am quite happy with Fifa 2002 world cup's gameplay.. but the AI is not any higher than a tomato.

Hopefully, I hope they won't make things worse when adding new features. :monkey:
On paper, it sounds great... but producing it is another story.
