West Ham are on the verge of accepting a £15million bid from Leeds United for England centre half Rio Ferdinand.
Elland Road manager David O'Leary has put his offer on the table and it is now up to the Hammers to decide if they want to part with the 21-year-old star.
A meeting has been scheduled for Upton Park on Friday to tie up a transfer that Leeds have been keen to push through since May.
The money will allow West Ham boss Harry Redknapp to buy at least three defenders, one of whom could be Ugo Ehiogu of Aston Villa, who has asked for a move and would cost around £7m.
It is at the back where Redknapp has been eager to strengthen his side and he will have the financial muscle to rebuild if Ferdinand is sold.
Leeds could recoup some of the fee by allowing Michael Duberry to leave Elland Road for Charlton or Southampton, where he would link up with his former Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle.
Wow, with the current lineup and then Rio they may be able to overtake United, but it will take quite a fight.
