Ok, this past summer I was in Germany and I twice or thrice delighted in Turkey's answer to the Gyro. You know, basically lamb meat, a sauce, and some other junk on pita bread. It's called "doener" in Germany, but I have no idea what the English word is. I recently had a really good Gyro, but it wasn't anything compared to this "doener", does anyone know what the english name for it is??? :confused:

Here in Australia they are either called 'Doner Kebabs' or 'Souvlakis'. So I'm guessing the first is just the anglicised Turkish name.

Nothing better than one of those when you're drunk - except when that white sauce dribbles onto your pants and everyone thinks your some kind of raving lunatic pervert..:p

Well, yes, that's why the stands are always open right? Walk a few miles from the local bar to the Doner stand, so you sober up a tad, then have one of those great things.

And yes, it sucks when you get the sauce all over you :(

It's a kebab. Only eat them when drunk (or if your Gazza - which is probably the same anyway :confused: ). :D Well the ones you get in the UK anyway.

Shish Kebab eh? I thought that was peppers and meat chunks on a long thin pointed object.

Here they take it off the skewer, put it in a pita and put salad and sauce.

Yeah, ok. That's what I was thinking about. It's just the sandwich brand. I did some looking around, and it looks like there are a few good Kebab places in the area, sweet!

Phwoar! Put that tomato back in, guv'nor, and I'm in heaven! :D

One thing you've got to remember though - that extra chilli sauce is going to cane when the time comes for your AGB (After-Grog Bog). Oh, the pain of a chili laced AGB is second to none..:(

Also, why do you all say that it's only drunk food. I mean, it's good to eat while drunk, but I'll eat is sober too.

It's obviously not only, but I can't think of the last time I had a sober kebab. It seems to round off a drunken evening.
