Anyone else think that until TCM's canadian cousins developing the FIFA engine finally sit down and watch a FULL game of football then this game doesnt stand much of a chance?
TCMs developers have said themselves that the main distinction between TCM and CM is the match engine...and well, all the criticisms in the fifa 2002 forum can be levelled at this game(Thats alot of negative to get over....)
Perfect long balls to wings over and over, AI not programmed to hold the ball up at all (theres no hold the ball option under individual orders!!)etc etc
Also there's not enough distinction between watching a conference game and a premier league match...you just cant tell if its your players that suck or the jittery match engine.
Anyway I'll persevere for a while and hopefully the rest of the game will overcome the shortcomings of the match engine.

What's interesting to me is that the 3D match engine, while clearly FIFA 2001 in origin, is much improved, and probably exhibits AI aspects that will be found in FIFA 2003. For example:
(1) The situational substitution by the PC opponent is prevalent, whereas no FIFA game to this point has any of that.
(2) The reality that football, like most sports, eventually comes down to individual 1 on 1s is much better represented in the TCM 3D match engine then it ever has been in any FIFA game to date. Better player actually can beat, in a more authentic way, their defenders (or defenders can dominate their offensive competitors, something I found out when, as manager of Fulham, I purchased Danny Mills, and then watched the resultant change in my defense...).
The passing is often unrealistic as you mentioned, but even that is intelligently mitigated by the in-game "tactics" screen; have you tried adjusting your team's passing style from "normal" to "short"? It seems to create a much more realistic. IMHO, passing pattern than any other FIFA engine, to date, has been capable of.
If the subtle changes in the AI are fully expressd and developed for FIFA 2003, we'll have a winner I think. As for TCM, its not bad, but I'll wait for CM4 and compare and contrast...maybe TCM's best shot for sales is to get into the marketplace well ahead of CM4 and be that game everyone plays while waiting for the other one...

Some people think they know too much.
This math engine is a huge step above any other existing match engine in a management game, yet you complain.
The difference in detail between this game and last years effort from EA is astonishing. Yet you complain.
Rome wasn't built in a year. For this teams first season with an English version i think their efforts are very applaudable. As for CM, I read that they were building a 2d engine.... IPreSIVe loLZZ!!111!.
This thread is gay.

Problem is though I've been spoiled with the PES match engine and now WE6 for the past few months.
Agreed the AI is much better than fifas efforts with building up the play and so on and yes changing tactics to slow build up and short passing helps. My 3rd div Torquay side never hit a long ball out of play though, and all players seem to have invisible barriers which they won't move past(wingbacks never make it as far as the penalty area, cms won't enter either penalty area)..
Yes 1v1s are well represented and thats when sweepers and defensive midfielders need to be close by to try and win the ball if a defender or midfielder is beaten...only the match engine will play DMs in the hole behind MY strikers and Sweepers just don't work at all.
If FIFA 2003 lives up to the press sheet then next years TCM vs CM4(which Ive seen very little of) should be interesting.

The match engine seems to me just like that of Fifa2002 not Fifa2001.
The game is a huge step in the right direction, but it`s still not that good yet...and in my opinion CM is still better.
I`d love it if the developers at EA would concentrate more on improving the gameplay and match engine. Also, i don`t think that managers can really issur orders to build youth academys or to expand the stadium or to control the prices of the clubs`s merchandise...in my opinon these options are out of the aspect of the game...what i mean is, i want to play the role of a team`s manager not chairman.
As for the match engine, i really think it`s that of fifa2002, anyway, i was able to get huge results (7/1, 5/0, 4/1) using the longball tactic. The short passing tactic looks more realistic but has no chance of success.

using the fifa 2002 is stille crap, since we now how realistic thei engine his
a 2d engine is far better for that...let's wait how cm's engine will be...
