Starts today the most important Environmental summit of the past 10 years. The last one was in Rio de Janeiro, and nothing relevant came out of it. The world can't afford another fiasco.
If you're American, you probably don't even know what I'm talking about. Although it makes the headlines all over the world (I've been listening to a special radio show about it for the past 3 hours), the US newspapers chose to ignore it. Why? Probably because the president of the country that burns the majority of the world's resources and also the major polluter isn't going. That smells like censorship to me.:kader:
Share your thoughts about Bush's decision and if you believe we definitely should do something in favour of our planet.;)
i've heard about this, didn't pay much attention tho :jambo:

something does need to be done about this.
As an article i read in Slate pointed out, we are incapable of doing significant harm to the planet. We may do enough damage to make humanity extinct, but the planet will eventually heal itself. Its a self-correcting system.
The fight for survival is ours not the planets. All humanity should be very concerned about what summits like this produce and act on them. Hopefully it will happen this time.

Again, Australia have followed American leads - they too don't give two sh!ts about the environment.
They never ratified the Kyoto Treaty - sure, our economy is more important than humanity's survival..
We'll sell our steel to..umm..oh right, no humanity. Well done Aussie government.
Unfortunately, these UN led forums seem to be nothing more than jaunts for world leaders - and if Dubya don't support it, that leads to a lot more not going as well..

I really don't care what my President's views on issues like this are, but it would be nice to know that we at least have a representative there, or that we are taking note on what the rest of the world is doing. I doubt we have anyone there, and that's what really makes me mad. I mean, the UN is on our own soil, but I have a suspicion that if it wasn't, the US wouldn't even be a member of it.

I don't like the current president Bush.
The US stock market economy crash was a sh!t in the past months due to incapable of Bush's policies in solving it.
The policies from the Bush's administration about the current environmental issue proved that the Republican party do not care about it. The Democrats is still caring alot about the environmental issue in the past years [Clinton's era].

I heard Colin Powell went but did little (including the fact he forgot to vote on some agreement that went down).
I agree with what alot of people have said, i have missed the news alot over the past couple of days because most of it in Australia is also censored american dribble - best news is on SBS a multicultural channel that is not biased, so i doubt i wouldnt have missed much on the South African Environmental Summit.
I just hope there were alot of protestors, since they are the voice of the majority (most of the time).
