It has the match engine of World Cup 2002

The interface maybe it's too big, you can't find some things fast at the beginning.

The skills of the players suck big time, they're rated with -1 to +2!

The players aren't very different from each other in the match anyway, you can't tell in the match if the player has more technique or less. As they still have the ball attached.
The players also can have only a few different skills, but for example, if the player has dribbling and passing, then he may get a bonus skill like "creative player", the rating is too confusing, the players are only rated on the bad skills and the good, but for example u may not now how good that creative player is at headers, tackling ,etc.

The menues still need to be simpler, and the skills more complex with more numbers, more skills like in cm, and all the skills being rated.

Neil Redfearn had these skills for example:
+1 Technique, -1 Speed, -1 Acceleration
Bonus Skill: -1 Snail (combination of Speed -1, Acceleration -1) which should mean the player is bad.

The match engine is quite repetitive, and also, another thing i didn't like was the levels of difficulty, i don't think they should be in, also there shouldn't be the ability to choose sponsors, and all those kind of things i don't care.

Also the training system is detailed but too complex, u got a civilization kind of system when it shows how much the player will improve over time, it says focusing on the skills he's been trained: speed (+10% per year), things like that. But it's too complex, i don't really like to bother to understand the hieroglyphs of the training system.

Definately i don't like the skills system. I'd like to see all the skills together as in CM. And the interface simplified.

The size of the demo it's around 260 megabytes, which may be a pain to download, also the sites containing it most of them require subscribing.

It's still not a CM3, with a match engine added.
They should copy CM3 and use his skills with a new match engine that doesn't repeat moves and that can flow differently. And each skill should be shown on the pitch.
We should be able to see the player bad technique when he has problems to control the ball.

I also don't like the icons and graphical representation on the menues, they should be all done with words and numbers, no graphics in it, excepting the match engine.

I felt a need to write this rant, as I am sick and tired of all these people sayng how crap TCM is going be, but why does everyone have to be so damn cynical all the time, anyway these are a few things i thought about this review:

1. If you don't like the match engine you can use text mode, which i personally think is a lot better than CM3's text mode.

2. You cannot expect to have a cutting edge match eningie in a game primarily designed for managagement. This time last year we were all raving how good FIFA 2002 is, and now people are picking it apart when it is a management games of all things.

3. The main thing EA Sports designed the TCM skill system for was the casual player who doesn't like delving into all that deep stats ****s. The people that like to just look at the overall and a brief glance at their personal stats.

4. The official site is doesn't require subscribing and would be the first place I would look for the demo.

5. The menu is a bit hard to navigate at first, but a demo is meant to give you a feel for the game, and by the time you actually buy the full version you will be familiar with the system. Or if you don't get the demo you can glance over the instructions.

6. One more thing on the match engine, it may repeat things, but if they make the engine any better it would acrry over to disks and result in jacked up price at the counter, so I do not really worry about the repetitiveness as it is recommended anyway that you mix the match engine and text mode, which would increase the length of play you have with the match engine before it gets repetitive.

7. Finally, that is a bad username man.

I guess that for the CM3 player there's no reason to play another game.

The user name describes the greatest man and musician that walked on earth!

I too am sick of this. Why cant u guys just look at it this wway? CM AND TCM are two different games, some people dont like all this stats stuff so they play TCM while others may want CM. It doesn't suck itz just different!

At this review you can see the differences between the English (I suppose you are English ;)) and the German "philosophy" of a manager-game: A manager game wihout the choose of sponsoring and a complex (maybe complicated) training would have no success here in Germany. The same thing with the menu: I just can't deal with the CM-Interface. It looks like MS Excel ;)
I don't know why these differences exist, the CM is a very good game, especially because of its tons of leagues and cups, but the presentation is (in my opinion) miserable and I want to influence the finance situation, I want to set every training session by myself.
By the way: If you don't like these features your assistents can deal with these tasks.

PS: I don't like the FM/TCM, its interface is really complicated and the 3d-scenes don't show special abilities or tactical changes.

I prefer the (typical German :D) manager game Anstoss 4 (the skills system is similar to CM)
