View Full Version : Are FIFA going crazy?

They may very well be, along with corrupt.

They have just announced that any player receiving a red card will receive an automatic 1 match ban with immediate effect from the competition they received a red card in, without the right to appeal.

That sounds too heavy handed to me, it gives the referees too much power and basically says that if they made a mistake and didn't notice it then it's tough! Imagine Mr Moreno!!! :D

If that wasn't enough they have also threatened to ban the Copa Libertadores (spell?) winners from competing against Real Madrid in December if they don't withdraw a complaint they have made against FIFA!!!

Sounds like a dictatorial regime FIFA are setting up!

About the Olimpia of Paraguay case, FIFA is starting to look as a certain country, run by this bearded guy that is quite fond of cigars and military uniforms...
Very obscene. The nerve FIFA has to pull that move.:kader:

About the rule change, here's the full quote:He also called for an overhaul of refereeing and announced the rule change of an automatic one-match ban for a sending-off, worldwide, probably from next month.

It could be me, but I think they don't necessarily mean that there won't be a chance to appeal from the 1-game suspension (at least from what's in that quote). Monkee, did you get that part from somewhere else?

According to what i've heard from sky the appeal could only happen if ; the ref admits to making a mistake - which seems pretty stupid cos that means even if hes wrong as long as he doesnt say so the ban would stand:mad: wtf, in the case of mistaken identity, or if its a lengthy suspension(3 match bans etc).

well I don't think the people at FIFA have ever made a 100% sane decision !!!

and for a UEFA ref to admit that he made the wrong decision would take another light year :kader: :kader:

Typical Fifa. They have to come up with a stupid announcement every month.

No appeals, so if a player gets sent off for mistaken identity, then he'll get suspended for basically doing nothing.

Sepp Blatter and Fifa, please, engage your brain.

I think FIFA will become obsolete in about a decade if they keep carrying on like this. The power of football resides with a few elite clubs, and if they are unhappy I can see them breaking away and forming their own governing body and the television rights will probably follow.

Infesta, I read it on many sports new sites. They said that unless the referee admits he's made a mistake (yeah, right! Who was the last referee to admit he's made a mistake? ) the player has no right to appeal.

In modern day football, as well, games can take place a few days after each other in the same competition. This rule says that they are banned from the very next match, which could mean that by the time a ref admits to a mistake the ban could already have been served!

I can't imagine it being implemented. I think the European law will probably prohibit this.

Fifa can't afford to keep making stupid decisions, with the G14 hovering around.

When the G14 expands to around 20-30 members, I expect them to form their own European Super League.

Referees do admit that they have made mistakes, but the problem is that they only do so after being appealed against and reviewed video evidence. If one is not allowed an appeal then this is impossible.

Looking at this from another angle. In a court of law, if you're found guilty of something, you have the right to appeal. In football, if Fifa gets its way, it doesn't. What justice is there? Does Fifa think they're gods?

Maybe they'll change football into the laughable game of American football, where players don't use their feet.

im not trying to make the turkish league sound cool but the thing is thats how its been in the turkish league since i remember it and the second president of UEFA Senez Erzik made them take this decision because he said it was going on in the Turkish league and that it was a good idea. Personally i think it drops the number of delibarete fouls because teams dont want players getting supsended.

It's got nothing to do with deliberate fouling. It's about appealing, isn't it? If a player deliberately fouls then he will be suspended anyway, and an appeal will mean nothing.
