Do you realize that if Holland had made it to the final there would be to 9 players starting from the Premier playing only 6 from Serie a and 4 from spain and one
from the Bundesleague, dutch league and Scottish Premier. None from the french league by the way.

Yes I know Italy won so Serie A wins hands down but there will still be 6 Premier players on the field more than any other league, so we have sort of a England league vs Italy league final.

So I know we all have an opinion so please fire away!

Well France vs Italy is more Serie A vs Serie A .For Italy ,everyone plays in serie A and France have players playing or used to play for a team in serie A .Example:Zidane(Juve),Trezeguet(Juve),Thuram(Parma ),Dessailly(ex-Milan),Deschamps(ex-Juve),Henry(ex-Juve),Candela(Rome) and probably more that i forgot .So these players know serie A because they play/played there .

60% of Premier League players are not English. Therefore the England team is not truely representative of the Premier League.

Bathez - Man. Utd.

Henry - Arsenal

Petit - Arsenal

Lebouf - Chelsea

PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL IS THE BEST!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! WHAT A LOAD OF BS!!! Lets lok at this from a results oriented view ....

England - comprised of all Premiership players, besides Macca. 1 win (vs a team that Portugal's reserves beat 3-0, when they could only win 1-0) ... and two losses. Now sits at home, did not even make the second round.

All of Italy's players come from Serie A. For France: Petit did not play today. Barthez (Please spell his name correctly) has never played a game for a Preimership team, and has made his name in FRANCE, not England.
Henry was France's best player, yet he refined his skill in Monaco, and now plays under a FRENCH coach.
Lebouf did not play today and we all know how well he did vs Figo and Rivaldo in Barca.

ManU .... at the World Club in Brasil .... did what??? vs Lazio in the Super Cup ... they did what?? LOST??? OK.
Arsenal ..... lost to Gala in the UEFA cup. Booted out of CL after 4-2 beating by Barca, then losing to Fiore.
Leeds .... Gala ended that run.
Chelsea .... where doing fine until they were introduced to the best duo in the world. (Figo and Rivaldo)

In fact .... no British team won a medal this year in any International Competition.

LaLiga?? - three of four "Champion's L" semi-finalists. Madrid beat ManU. Barca creamed Arsenal and Chelsea.
Serie A?? Lazio won the SuperCup over ManU. Italy to the EURO FINAL.
Turkish League?? Gala - first Leeds, then Arsenal.

SO .... PLEASE ..... EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE PREMIERSHIP IS BETTER???

I'm sorry Woody. Truly I am.

Perhaps the last team to win the treble WASN'T English.

Shearer, what did they do this year??

a_shearer
02-07-2000, 11:03:PM
Semi-finalists in the Champions League. No Seria A teams made it that far.

Two other Premiership teams were also UEFA Cup semi-finalists. No Seria A teams even made it to the Quarter Finals. Juventus were beaten by....Celta Vigo. There's Italian soccer MIGHT!

ManU made it to the semis??? REALLY??? I could have sworn it was Madrid v Bayern and Valencia v Barca. Oh well ....

The question still stands Shearer .... did any English team win ANYTHING outside of England?? Not make it to this semi, or that final or whatever, DID THEY WIN????

it's funny how some people only focus on the players they want to, because they're from the english league. but they don't point out other players. and holland didn't make it to the finals, so why are we talking about them?

France:

F. BARTHEZ - man u, but really monaco
B. LAMA - psg
U. RAMÉ - bordeaux
L. BLANC - inter
V. CANDELA - roma
M. DESAILLY - chelsea
F. LEBOEUF - chelsea
B. LIZARAZU - bayern munich
L. THURAM - parma
D. DESCHAMPS - chelsea, made name in juve
Y. DJORKAEFF - kaiserslautern
C. KAREMBEU - real
J. MICOUD - bordeaux
E. PETIT - arsenal
R. PIRES - marseille
P. VIEIRA - arsenal
Z. ZIDANE - juve
N. ANELKA - real
C. DUGARRY - marseille
T. HENRY - arsenal
D. TREZEGUET - juve, but really monaco
S. WILTORD - bordeaux

Italy:

F. ANTONIOLI - roma
F. TOLDO - fiorentina
F. CANNAVARO - parma
C. FERRARA - juve
M. IULIANO - juve
P. MALDINI - milan
P. NEGRO - lazio
A. NESTA - lazio
G. PESSOTTO - juve
D. ALBERTINI - milan
M. AMBROSINI - milan
A. CONTE - juve
L. DI BIAGIO - roma
A. DI LIVIO - juve
S. FIORE - parma
G. ZAMBROTTA - juve
A. DEL PIERO - juve
M. DELVECCHIO - roma
F. INZAGHI - juve
V. MONTELLA - roma
F. TOTTI - roma

so there you go, according to your logic, the serie A should be the dominant league, not the english premier league.

shearer you idiot, you english always have to put so much emphasis on a "treble" by man u, which was basically the only thing they did this decade. look, there were other teams that did it. yet you don't see them boasting as much as the english. man u didn't even deserve that treble. ok, the english premiership and fa cup are pretty much automatic. they didn't deserve to win the cl final. so shut yo face.

Just a few words of wisdom:

The league doesn't make the player; the players make the league.

Think that over for a bit and you will notice that it doesn't matter where they play, it is the players who hold talent, not the league.

Why do I bother? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

"so shut yo face." - Who talks like that? That is just comical. In the REAL world terminology like that completely discredits an argument.

03-07-2000, 01:49:AM
haha, please shearer, you know that phrase doesn't make a difference at all in my argument. you just don't have one so you touch on the little things. well, let's see, how about richard from filter, doesn't he say that. and so does my marketing teacher.

ever heard of humor, eh?

Temper Temper. I am mearly pointing out the fact that there are a lot of Premier players in the euro final which suggests the league is one of the best. Man u's treble should never be discounted, name another club thats done it in the last 10 years.

their league
their cup
Euro Championship

The Premier is the top team in the league and many of the worlds best play there, half of the french team, World and now euro Champions, on the bench Leboeff chelsea, Karenbeau Middlesboro wonder why they play in england because its the worst league in /europe, people say the French are better now than they were in 98 wonder how that happened?

do you know that the premier is also the most sought after TV sports product outside of the NFL and NBA. Not Serie A not spain not german. The english Premier League, wonder why.

And stop talking about England, look if you put an idiot in charge of France picking Candela over thuram or playing Lebeoff instead of Desailly see if they do as well. Keegan has not got a clue, he's not a tactician and he has too many favorites. hopefully Venables will want the job because beleive me if he says he does, Keegan is out.

You people are all crazy! Haven't you heard? The Uruguayan League was just picked to be the best league of 2000 with the Venezuelan league in close second.

LOL!

Oh by the way Gshank09

If you keep talking crap I will ask you about the cricket this weekend HA ha.

54 all out disgraceful (conspiracy was it)

Why is it that people from small islands always have the most to say. the english suffer from it too, must be an island thing.

::shinji::
03-07-2000, 06:22:AM
Premier League football still the best?? I don't think so and this is why...a team made up of almost exclusivly of premier league players (England) fails miserably.

GShakan09
03-07-2000, 08:24:AM
please read my message. what i was trying to say is that most of the players who played in the final were not from the premiership, like you said. and you totally overlooked that point and went on (again) to point out the players that DID play in the premiership. obviously some do, but the majority doesn't. man, please.

and you know why the premiership is the most "sought after" product? well, i can say why in the usa, at least, it's the most sought after. americans have this english heritage thing and they feel they can connect and understand better when it's the english league, as opposed to the italian. for other countries, it might be tradition, the english always boasting about how they deserve to be the best and everything, that's gotten into people's heads over time, but that doesn't reflect quality at all. not that the premier league doesn't have any, it does.

oh, and sorry, i don't follow cricket. i find it terribly boring.

At least the English doesn't kill people... like the turks do every time they meet a foreign team.

GShakan09
03-07-2000, 05:37:PM
ah, now you say ONE of the best?? but in your title, you said the that the premier league was alive and still the best! you contradict yourself!

the second part where you went wrong was that euro 2000 proves it! but according to your logic it proves that the serie a is the best, not the premiership!

brannfan, i'm not even gonna comment on what you said. we've discussed the topic too many times.

Shearer you idiot .... I never said that Italian League was the best. I never said any league was the best. What I said that Manchester suck, and aside from winning the treble, they did nothing else on an international scale. Juve made it to 4 straight CL finals. Barca won a CL Cup, UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup, SuperCup and one a EuropeanSuperCup. Madrid won the CL twice. Ajax did the treble. Gala did the treble. You see my point?? ManU achievment was significant, but it meant nothing after they failed to do anything this year.
