Hello, any Australian rules football fans here?
What is your favorite team and player?. And who do you think will win the Grand Final, Which starts in about 3 hours from now?
My favorite Team is the Essendon Bombers, favorite player is Matthew Lloyd.
Tonight I see the Brisbaine Lions beating Collingwood by about 25 points but I really do hope Collingwood wins
. I will be watching the game live here in the United States on Fox Sports World, 12:30 American Eastern time. Second year in a row I have been able to watch the grand final... Im getting excited!
Try the FIFA Oceania forum ;)
lots of AFl fans and threads there
Cheers

Woah dude!
Awesome to see an Aussie Rules fan from America - do come and join us at FIFA Oceania where we all chat about footy.
I'm curious - do you see just the Grand Final or other matches too? What made you pick the Bombers? What do you know about the mighty Hawthorn Hawks?
I'm so excited, I'm all a flutter..

Recently I had to find pictures of Kangaroos for A Qantas assignment and found this:
Go to AskJeeves search engine look up Kangaroos and the first site is Nashville Kangaroos AFL club they got beat by the New York Magpies (i think) in the regional final (looks like our game is no longer our game)

Im sorry I replied to this so late guys..
1st of all the Grand final was amazing! no team ever led over 9 points the whole game! That was a lot of fun to watch :)
The Grand final was the only game the USA gets to see Live, the other rounds, there is a match shown on tape delay once or twice a week during the footy season. They show the majority of the game, they cut out the long periods where only a behind or 2 were scored in 5-8 minutes. There is also a 1 hour highlight show called "Foster's Aussie Rules" which I believe is designed for fans outside of Australia.
Why did I pick the Bombers? Honestly just because I liked their nickname! I didn't realise they had a lot of great history beforehand at the time. Im not going to be a bandwaggoner though. if the Bombers end up with the wooden spoon some day they will still be my favorite team!
Yes there are aussie rules leagues in the USA but noone gets paid to play in them, and its mostly family and friends of the players that attend the matches.. Obviously the quality of the fields are not as good as they are in Australia.. I remember reading something where one of the behind posts kept falling down! 2 web sites that deal with Aussie rules in the usa are www.usfooty.com and www.afana.com
There are Aussie rules leagues in other countries as well. There was an 11 team international tournament this year which Ireland had won Australia was not in it because it was during the AFL season.. that and They would win every game by about 100 anyway!. Mind you I am not talking about the International Rules series that has gaelic rules mixed in, Im talking about a tournament with all of the AFL rules. Do a search on the www.afl.com.au for the Results
The international australian football confederation can be found at www.iafc.org.au but it was the AFL that orginised the Tournament mentioned above

Yeah i read about Canada playing here in Australia a couple of years ago and played a team from VFL (victorian state lower division) in a curtain raiser to a big AFL game, they got smashed by about 80 points (this was about 1999).

Yep, I remember seeing the International Tournament, they played the Final as a curtain raiser to a Friday night match towards the end of the season.
International Rules is on tonight!! I love this concept, unfortunately it's on at about 2am this morning..:(

I watched the Gaelic football final a couple of weeks back
KERRY vs AMARGH
Kerry were leading 11-4 at the seconhalf break (all points were a behind)
Amargh came back with a goal (which is either two points or three) at tie it up at 14-14 then the Northern Irelanders flicked a behind with a minute to go to win 15-14 all the Kerry (RofIreland) supporters were very upset they had it won
