Chris Davies, creator of PotD (along with Drinky of course!) here. Drinky's nicely put the screenshots at FIFA 2000 Online for the world to see (more coming soon by the way, including the final F.A. Cup Final between Chelsea and Aston Villa!), so what do YOU think of them? Your comments would be MUCH appreciated if you think there is anything we can work on, if you think anything looks outstandingly good or bad, whatever. Thanks in advance! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Looks fantastic. I am really interested in the squads though, have you fixed the bugs like no Ferdinand in the West Ham team.

Elland Road looked great and the numbers look tremendous. Well done guys. I can't wait to hear the new chants.

Will you be able to play as more than one team in the Premier or will you have to create a custom league again?

Very excited hope we see it soon, my PC is ready.

Ah good, a nice quick reply http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif Thanks very much, your comments and questions are welcomed with the greatest of welcomes http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Good news - All the bugs in rosters have been fixed (with thanks to Jochen Tree's help) and also Division One added (unfortunately Two and Three won't make it into the first version but VERY VERY VERY shortly after PotD - The End of an Era is released there will be a 2000\2001 season update containing the new season's kits and Division One, Two and Three (plus the promotion\relegation details added)). Bad news - You will have to create a custom league and 2 custom cups to make it complete if you want to recreate the Premier season properly if you want to use more than one team. But it's not really that bad - All the teams you need are in one league (apart from the cups where you can just add who you want from the Premiership and Div.1)...

Thanks for your encouragement too mate, much appreciated http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Any more questions, comments, whatever? Keep 'em rolling in! Thanks people http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have to say those screenshots look awesome. The new numbers look superb. A couple questions, though, how many new stadiums will there be, and will potd: end of an era be compatible with fed2000, because the first potd seemed to have errors when using fed2k, like all the leeds players were on liverpool, and liverpool players on man utd squad. Also, how many new faces did u put in the game? Thanx a lot for doing this, im waiting anxiously for the release...

Drinky UKSN
27-05-2000, 04:18:PM
There will be full FEd compatibility. Every single face from FIFA 2000 has been replaced.
There will be new stadia for <deep breath>:

Original POTD Stadia:
England
Everton
Crystal Palace/Wimbledon
Man Utd
Tottenham

All-New Stadia:
Arsenal
Liverpool
Southampton
Leeds
Coventry
Newcastle
Aston Villa
Chelsea
Cheltenham Town
Tranmere

Okay, the screenshots look excellent, but did you guys overwrite any leagues or teams in order to add the other English teams if you did please tell me which ones...also did you guys update the cups like Champions League and UEFA Cup with the proper teams?

P.S> THANKS A LOT!!!

Hey hey, I'm back - Holy cow, 7 messages waiting for me when I came on, glad you like them!!!

Hunnter - Thanks for your remarks - By your remarks do you mean Elland Road looks realistic? If so, thanks http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

LiverpoolFAN - Aaahhh, a man after my own heart - Almost, I support Tranmere http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif Thanks for your kind remarks - Drinky already answered your stadiums question, he answered your FEd2000 question INCORRECTLY ( http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/redface.gif) and didn't answer your faces question... Well, the rosters WON'T be editable with FEd2000 - Well, they will, but I'm made them so that one wrong move and the rosters pack in. Me and Jochen have made them PERFECT and so you have no need to edit them anyway! Just leave well alone and enjoy, that's what we make it for; If you want to edit something make your own bloody patch!!! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif Like I've just said, they are perfect, no errors at all (accurate for the end of the 99\00 season). As for the new faces - EVERY SINGLE player face has been replaced with a more realistic looking one (with thanks to Xavier Baez's help). It looks (and sounds with Drinky's chants) great. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Drinky - Wow, I didn't know you were doing ALL those stadia! Nice one! And I thought you were too busy eh, tut tut tut... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

This is continued in my next post, I try to post a nice long reply message and this forum's "flood control is activated" - DDDDD'''''ooooohhhhh http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/mad.gif

Chris Davies

(BTW, in-case you're wondering, the only reason I edited this message is 'cause I made a ****-up of the angry face the first two times and I really wanted to show how angry I am with this bloody flood thingy, it happens every time I write a big reply...)

OK then, part two (by the way, the four stars don't hide the F word, they hide the C word meaning, erm, the male's sexual organ - But not in a rude sense - Cocck-up (spelt with two c's so it doesn't get censored and you know what I am talking about) is a very much used word over here in England, I don't think it's considered as rude, kids say it! Just so you don't think I'm a constant swearer http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif)...

Iceberg24k - The leagues overwritten were (we had to, FIFA crashed otherwise) MLS. That's it. In the new season update we bring out before the new season begins it will have Div. Two and Three as well, which will remove Brazil and Israel. MLS and Brazil (and I THINK Israel) have no teams in the cups, so it all works out perfect! As for the new Champions League and UEFA Cup spots - This PotD will update everything to as it was at the end of the 99\00 season (which officially ends on Monday, when the play-off finals finish, with the Divison One one between Barnsley and Ipswich to see who gets to the Premiership), and not update it to 00\01 season. But before the new season starts (no delays or nothing, we SWEAR) there will be a TINY update with new 00\01 kits and promotion\relegation details.

Drinky - I just explained the answer to Iceberg24k's question above. You were indeed right, but the Brazilian league won't be overwritten until the 00\01 update and you missed out Israel. I know you aren't the roster master but I'm just making sure I reply to everyone http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

LiverpoolFAN - No stadium structure changes but the ones already with FIFA 2000 made for some good realistic stadia (Anfield rules, apart from Tranmere's and Arsenal's it's the only one I made too!)! So don't worry too much http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif Drinky did mention that he might ask Rimo of FIFAMANIA.IT if he could use some models, and they are great (go and get some if you don't believe me!), but I don't know if Drinky needs them now, I'll have to ask him...

OK, thanks everyone, keep 'em coming (WHY oh WHY did I click on "E-Mail notification" when I made this topic, I now check my E-Mail and have about 10 E-Mails saying "so-and-so has replied"!!!)... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Chris Davies

( BTW, in-case you are wondering why I have edited this message AS WELL, I made another cocck-up (once again spelt with two c's so it doesn't get censored - I've already explained we don't regard it at ALL as a swear word, blah blah blah...) - I put a capital p after : so the "tongue-in-cheek" face didn't work... Goddamnit, am I going to get one thing RIGHT tonight??? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/confused.gif )

Hi, Chris. Is POTD going to be out on Monday? After seeing the shots, I don't know if I'm going to be able to wait any longer...

Chris Davies (E.S.P. Man)
27-05-2000, 09:31:PM
Well Schumacher, I've just been talking to Drinky and we will BUST a GUT to get it out for Monday. But we have just decided that we will do ALL the Premier stadia, which MIGHT take us a bit longer to finish http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif But on the other hand, it might not - So maybe is the only definate answer. But not to fear, if it is delayed it will DEFINATELY only be by a day or two and it will DEFINATELY DEFINATELY be worth it http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Thanks for your question...

Iceberg24k - Thanks http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif The Champions League and UEFA Cup teams aren't messed up (they are 99\00 season but that's OK innit, you can wait til the update can't ya?) - As for a readme - Well of course, WTF did you expect? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

Schumacher - Thanks, your welcome, and yes I know, PotD is going to rock http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Schumacher (AGAIN? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif) - PotD will feature BRAND SPANKING NEW BBC Sport MotD popups for everything, unless you'd prefer Sky (?)... Thanks again for your replies!!!

Chris Davis..

In regard to the Elland Road screenshot, the houses in the pic are on the south east corner of the Elland road end, also there are/used to be similar views at the south west corner..these are the "old" Elland Road views, you can only catch glimpses of them now from elevated positions in the stands, not from the pitch level, thats what i meant when i said that it looks like "home"..the original Elland Road, not the new look stadium, but no worries it all looks ok from where i am....HEy..well ..well..that isn't a clone of Johny Giles in that pic is it...the hairstyle looks very familiar....... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Chris!

Love the screens! Can you post one of my beloved St. James?

BTW, will their be an update for the 2000/2001 season? I know for a fact that Newcastle will have a new kit and new stadium. So will many other teams. Any plans?

Chris - everything looks amazing.

When you say you are probably going to do allt he Premier league stadias, does that mean the Watford one too!!! We were a premier leage club when u started the project, so would be great to see Vicarage Road in it. Please, anyone who replies to this, do not make any comments about Watford! Heard them all before!

It's been so long since I posted on these forums that I forgot both my user name and password!!!

I am still trying to work out how to edit stadiums easily, without hex editing.

Just a minor point about you elland road screenshot. I am not impressed with the structure, but then I wont be until the FA premierleage allstars Elland Road is put in Fifa2000. The addboards will need changing. Assuming that by the time the patch is released we will be heading into season 2000/2001 and that rosters will be up to date along with kits for that season, Leeds will be sponsored by Stronbow and the kit made by nike. (officially released at midnight next friday).

Phew, took me a while to get to the point there.

Drinky UKSN

a_shearer
28-05-2000, 04:58:PM
Yeah.

Newcastle will be sponsered by NTL: next year. Plus the stadium will be re-done.

I can get you pics of NUFC's new kit if ya' like.

Drinky UKSN
28-05-2000, 05:00:PM
All kits will be 1999/2000 Season Kits - stadia will feature 2000/2001 Sponsors where possible. The kits would take just too long to redo - theres about 50 of the buggers.

Chris Davies (E.S.P. Man)
29-05-2000, 12:55:AM
Ooh, Drinky said "buggers" in his last reply - Ban him from the forum!!! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif
Right, let's get some work done in the form of forum replies (me Dad brought back a scanner and a steering wheel from a local computer fair so it's midnight and still I've done no PotD work - Sorry kids, it looks like PotD might be put back A DAY OR TWO - Not definate, but anyway, A) it'll be worth it and B) it will DEFINATELY be this week sometime, and THAT'S a FACT)... Right, now where did I leave off last time? Oh yes...

chrishaz - Thanks mate, nice to see some work of my favourite team done http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif But I have already done it I'm afraid - And it's better than yours too http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif Thanks anyway...

chrishaz (again) - We do NOT neglect ANY players, teams, leagues, ANYONE\THING in PotD. All the leagues (apart from MLS, which is being replaced by English Div. One, and later on, Brazil and Israel, being replaced by Div. Two and Three) are correct as of the end of the 99\00 season. There will, before the new season begins, be a 00\01 update which will update all the leagues in PotD even FURTHER, so don't worry about that!!! And as for your A-level exam revision - Don't ruin that mate, it's the key to your future. I was forced to miss that exam because of my migraines and may never get the chance again (bye bye job hopes) so don't make the same mistake I did. Besides, it'll all be over soon - THEN play PotD - You will be more fully educated then and appreciate it more anyway http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

Iceberg24k - Read the above response, it should DEFINATELY answer your question.

Hunnter - OH GOD, NOT ANOTHER PERSON IN THE BIG WIDE WORLD WHO CALLS ME DAVIS AND NOT DAVIES, AY CARUMBA http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/eek.gif As for Elland Road - Do you think that particular structure is realistic? From what I've seen it isn't, it's far from it, but I can't persuade Drinky of it. Tell me if I'm right or wrong please, you sound like the expert http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Pic? What pic? Johnny Giles? Who? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/confused.gif

That's it - Any more letters typed and the flood control thingy will be on my back! Next reply continues this one big long reply...

Chris Davies (E.S.P. Man)
29-05-2000, 01:01:AM
(continued...)

a_shearer - Well if it isn't me old mate, hello again! So, you want a shot of St. James' Park eh? Hmmm, well, as soon as it's fully done you shall see it http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif And OK, for the LAST TIME (so EVERYBODY read this please!!!) - There WILL be a 00\01 season update. It will contain Div. Two and Three leagues as well as the Premiership, Div. One and the rest of the world (unfortunately there just wasn't enough time to fit them into this current PotD), updated promotion\relegation details, (hopefully, if it's possible) updated UEFA Champions' League and UEFA Cup places, and updated 00\01 kits. I am NOT GOING TO SAY THAT AGAIN, MMMKAY??? Good... And by the way, thanks to me and Drinky (yes, me too - Putting all the stadia on Drinky's shoulders was a bit mean of me)'s combined efforts (although I still have to say, more him than me), the stadia are already the 00\01 versions.

lufc16 - The Sky Sports patch developed by my one of my best friend's best friends - Ste Cooper - Is FANTASTIC, nothing short of beautiful, unbelievable, brilliant and realistic. Now I can either ask his permission to include that, or I can SLIGHTLY edit the FIFA 2000 normal popups (you won't see much difference at all, just a BBC Sport logo as in real life) which would make it look as realistic as possible for our patch (the right commentators - the ones from the BBC, the right popups, the right patch name, etc.)... It's down to the opinion of the public really. Any comments would be appreciated people http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Brann-fan - Thanks - Although I can't understand why on EARTH you are a fan of all-bran http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif FEd2000 and a few other utils were used in the making of PotD (and are mentioned in the credits for any of the makers of these programs seeing this), but none are needed to run PotD itself. All that's needed for that is FIFA 2000.

Schumacher - Ah, so one person FOR the BBC popups - Ah good - Thanks!

gerglane - Thank you http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Well I haven't told Drinky this but I will be doing any stadia that he does not do for the Premiership, so yes, even terrible old Watford's will be included http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif Oh sorry, just read the last bit of your message. Oh well, I bet you haven't heard MY crack at them in THAT context before http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

(continued (2)...)

Phil the Leeds fan - Ah good old Phil, welcome back to the forum! We haven't really needed to edit the stadium structures to be honest; With a lot of graphical tuning we've found that the normal FIFA 2000 ones are pretty realistic for the Premiership's stadia! As for the Elland Road structure; I made that point earlier on in this reply to Hunnter - I thought it was the wrong structure but Drinky said it was perfect. Ah well, 1-0 to me Drinky http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif As for the adboards, well I'm not doing them anyway (I'm not doing the structure either but if Drinky's new Elland Road uses the same one I'll be forced to change it). Ah I see Drinky replied to that one, let's see what he said!

Drinky - Ah good. Great mate!

a_shearer - Read my reply to you earlier in this reply and I addressed that issue I think (00\01 stadia). We will find pictures of the new Newcastle kits when we need them in time for the 00\01 update mate, but thanks anyway http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Drinky - Ah, you replied to a_shearer's last message! The kits haven't ALL changed (I don't think - GULP) and I will have done all the new ones and put them into the 00\01 update (oh god, I had to mention the 00\01 season update AGAIN) in time for the new season.

OK, thanks for all your replies, god this is getting bigger faster - Keep 'em coming!!!

Chris Davies..With the "E"..is that the Welsh version..??.. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif are you a man from the Valleys...?..The Elland Road Stadium looks like the Older Config, i am about to check the Premier All Stars Version and i will get back to you..man we must be causing your team some headaches and sleepless nights, while you work away on this huge project..

Chris Davies (E.S.P. Man)

jabj - Just in-case anyone's wandering what jabj's shorts, socks and things are doing in PotD - Well he WAS the FIFA-CS main person (he's now joined us here at Soccer Gaming - WOOHOO!!!), and he made some BRILLIANT English leagues stuff (including a great referee kit - TWO in fact!), and it would be a crime not to have put them in. Plus he's my best mate along with Drinky, plus I'm going to be running his new website here at SG with him! So, jabj, here is my reply to you - I am honoured to have you as my best friend and honoured to have your great, great work in PotD. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif 3 pages - Hmmm, we'll see - Yesterday I woke up to TEN messages to answer, today just two, so maybe it will take a while longer...

Hunnter - Hehe, well my Dad's quarter Welsh (which is probably why I have such a temper, although he has a worse one than me!), so yes, I guess it might be! I am mainly English though, never lived in Wales (although I live spitting distance away from there!). I thought that about Elland Road, Drinky refuses to change the structure (unless the one he sent me last night has, I've been too busy to check - I doubt it though because when I asked him about it before he said it was "perfect as it is"...) so I'll have to sometime before the release. Talking about sleepless nights and headaches - Well, before even this PC came along, I'd only had one sleepless night - The other night I made the grand total 2 and decided to get up at 4:30am and work - What's the point in waiting for the sun to come up if you're not going to have had any sleep by then and you're doing nothing anyway? I normally go to bed at midnight, but since PotD has come along it's more like, sleep 3am, wake up 8am... As for the headaches, well I suffer from migraines anyway, but last week I broke the record - 11 days in a row I had one! But I still managed to work on PotD, we want this patch finished and out for you public to see!

Well, back to work - BTW, I was working EXTRA late last night and got some very hard work done and dusted with - I still doubt we'll make tonight's release date but I am quite close, we'll have to see...

I believe that the nearest possible to creating Elland Road is to take the East stand of stadium 10 and put in in stadium 3, use the stadium viewer and tell me what you think. All I need now is to know how to do it, I am currently downloading the italian editor, I don't speak italian, but I am going to see how complicated it is.

If I succeed, I'll send you the stadium, I might let you put the right textures with it, as they've already been drawn. That depends on how lazy I am and much time I have.

Phew, i have just spent a few hours checking out the stadiums that are in Premier League Allstars, they are the best set of stadiums that are currently to be seen in any EA football game. i don't know if it would be possible to convert these gems into Fifa 2000, after all there are "only" 89 megs of them in the stadium directory, 78 megs of *.fsh files and 11 megs of *.ssf files..???
If you or any of your team could send me detailed info in regard to converting them over to Fifa 2000, i would certainly give it a go..a nice challenge indeed..and thanks to Phil the Leeds fan for pointing this option out ..in regard to migranes, i used to think that i suffered from that horrible complaint, i later realised that it was all due to sticking my head into the monitor for hours on end, so now i am aware of the danger i can avoid it..or wear sun Glasses..<Joke>......In regard to my mention of that leeds stadium pic, the second player from the left reminded me of the GREAT Johny Giles, who as you probably already know was the Midfield genius who played along side Billy Bremmner and Lorimer and Eddie Gray during the Golden years of Leeds United, if you don't know about him, i am sure that your father or the more mature members of your family will remember him..he had the ability to send a perfectly weighted ball over 35 yards and land it on a ten pence coin, he was amazing to watch, his poise and balance were perfect, i havn't seen anyone compare to him in the last 25 years or so of English football, apart from Tony Currie..who of course played in the same team..

I have many a question for u.

will the patch have extra commentary?

there is reaaly clever stuff u can do with fed2k

1- give commentary to players which don't have their own commentary, but which have similar sounding player commentaries in the game....Confused??

i.e.
G.Weah - no commentary
D.Wier - has commentary,
-> so assinge wier's commentary to Weah

2- some players without have 'namesakes' with commentary (eg J.Zanetti (inter)- no commentary, C.Zanetti (roma) has commentary?

3- also fifa mania has a programme to create FMN commentary files for teams and players. I made many of these files (i impersonated john motsons accent and did player names, or use player commentaries from old games (eg totti and Ginola , both have commentary in fifa99 but not fifa2k)
... but unfortunately i messed around so much, i lost all of the team name commentary in the entire game

... basically will the patch improve commentary???

thanx

chris

P.S. are tranmere changing their kit for next seson, as i am unsure if i shoul buy the away kit???

After five months, I am now pleased to report that I have finished all my POTD work. Chris is just sorting everything out, fitting it together, and we'll have a great patch for you later on today!

Ooh, we were SO close to releasing it today; if I hadn't have had to go to visit my Auntie Grace and Uncle Peter, then you would be seeing a link where to download PotD : TEoaE from now, but alas, I was 44 minutes too late to catch Drinky sending me his final piece of the patch... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif Well all I can say to comfort you is that I am prepared to put it in writing (i.e. what you're reading right now http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif) that tomorrow (morning, probably) it will DEFINITELY be here for you all to download. Just to keep your mouth watering, I played what is nearly the final version today (just a few of Drinky's stadiums missing), and I can tell you that even though the game play hasn't changed and the only things that have really changed are the graphics, it seems like a completely new game! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif And also, after playing EURO 2000 and then playing FIFA 2000 with PotD : TEoaE, the only difference I can see is that EURO 2000 has International teams only! So get that copy of FIFA 2000 out again and, just this once, let the dust settle on the new game, as you enjoy the new patch and yet also the end of an era, Patch of the Day : The End of an Era.

The menus are gorgeous, the stadiums are gorgeous, the kits are almost real enough to touch, the stats are all 100% accurate for the last day of the 1999\2000 season (2000\2001 update coming soon - Before the new season starts in-fact!)... Re-live it all again with PotD : The End of an Era, and play the new season before even the real players get a chance to with the 2000\2001 update! Who needs the flair of Europe in a single competition when you can have the flair of English team players of all nationalities playing in 4 different competitions - The F.A. Carling Premiership, the Nationwide League Division One (and in the 2000\2001 update, Division Two and Three as well - That's SIX competitions!), The F.A. Cup and the Worthington Cup - Plus all of the original FIFA 2000 leagues and competitions apart from the MLS intact and updated! And it's all coming to a PC screen near you (in-fact that PC screen is right in-front of your face now! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif), SOON (well, tomorrow actually, but SOON sounded better then http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/tongue.gif)...

Chris,

I sent you a small icq message a couple of days back, but I decided to get off my a$$ and actually register here. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, I have been visiting this forum for a long time, basically just to see what was going on with POTD. I didn't really want to get involved in any of the slanging matches that were going on, as I know how difficult it is to get something like this going when you are a 'virtual' team of people, doing it in your spare time.

Now it looks like it's finally coming out, I just want to say GREAT WORK!! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif I enjoyed your FIFA 99 version, bringing envy to my playstation friend. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif Also, it gave the game much greater longevity. You first patch for 2000 was already out when I got the game (things take longer to get here to the Czech Republic http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif ) and I installed it straight away. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Here's hoping it will be here very soon.

Thanks again Chris (and Drinky) for all the hard work http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
