In my opnion I think that teh Oceania winner should be given automatic qualification into the World Cup.......
Take a spot away from Europe and give it to Australia.........

Anyone agree or disagree???

Well i have to disagree.
That just wouldn`t be fair i mean the only competition down here is New Zealand.

However i do think Australia should be able to get through Via the same group as the US and Canada.
Australia diserve to be in the wc!

i disagree......

I rekon that if its called the World Cup then they should include teams from all regions of the world....We(australia) will never get the chance to show how good we are on the world stage until we are in a World Cup and FIFA make this dificult every year though vyt placing us against teh 5th placed Sth American team.....
Now i admit last World Cup was out best chance against Iran but I still think that Oceania should get 1 spot in the World Cup.

Oceania deserves and should get one Automatic place. Fifa talks about trying to expand the game globally and the one confederation it has so far to a large extent ignored is Oceania.
When the World cup was extended to 24 teams from 16 both Asia and Africa benefitted. This happened again when the expansion went from 24 to 32 teams. Is it purely coincedence the growth of African and Asian teams since this has happened?.
If you take a look at the recent Youth world cup you will see that Australia made it to the final and the other Oceania team taking part as host, New Zealand, were able to beat Poland, the current European champions. More encouragement is needed by Fifa if the region is to fulfill any of the potential out there.
The big problem comes when people take a look at the current rankings and the fact that if Oceania had a place there are a lot more teams in the world who would arguably (or in actual fact) be better than an Oceania qualifier. However it is a world cup and because of this there needs to be at least one team represented from Oceania. The current qualifying route for Oceania is an indication that Fifa doesnt really care about its smallest confederation.
The only other option is to make Oceania part of Asia which would not make the Asian nations happy as both New Zealand and Australia have very very good records against Asian teams.
To get an idea of the potential in the Oceania region from countries other than Australia and New Zealand you only have to look at the ability of some of the Tahitian, Vanuatu, Fijian and Solomon Island players who currently play in the Australian National League or the NZ national league. Im not saying these players are world beaters but I am saying the potential is there for these players to do very well.
Simply take a look at how welll nations such as Fiji, Samoa and Tonga do in rugby which gives the pacific nations plenty of support and encouragement. If FIFA is really serious about keeping the claim to being the worlds game then Oceania needs and deserves a better chance.

Ok as much as I wish it were true Poland U-17 are not the European champions, but they lost in the final to Spain. Still, at least they got close.

I think FIFA could cut them some slack and give them the automatic spot, and now qualifying with S. American team you know that will be hell.

How about combining the Oceania and Asia zones? That would make the most sense as it would be the closest geographically.

Uh if Australia isn't good enough to beat the 5th place South American team then why the hell should they be in the World Cup?

Polishpower, I would be happy to see Oceania part of Asia, teams in Oceania have a really good record against Asian teams and Im sure an Oceania team would qualify on a regular basis that way
With respect to the question regarding Australia being not good enough to be at the world cup if it cant beat the 5th placed South American team.... you miss the point. Oceania is the only confederation that doesnt have an automatic place. Also a good number of the teams that do qualify from various regions at every world cup could probably be beaten by teams from other regions that didnt qualify. The World cup doesnt have the best 32 teams, it has the teams that are best in each region.
