I hope there is speed option because it looks to be almost like FIFA99's pinball gameplay.
Wow..this game looks awesome!! Good Job in finding it!!
Andy!!:D
lukas_svoboda 02-10-2002, 08:46:PM Nice video. Highly recommended. Nice Koller goal (Dortmund vs. Inter)
rado907 02-10-2002, 08:50:PM I'm droolin... So 'separated the ball' means that they made it look like the PS games... Cuz I like them better, but then I hate PS, so I stick with Fifa ;-).
The best thing is that's it's NEW! For the FIRST time from fifa98 the Fifa is NEW!!!
It looks better than heaven...
In short, I think THIS time we hit the jackpot pals.
Though I hear some crap about the AI around corners and such... But that's BS.
Fifa owns.
Thx for the link dude http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/wink.gif
imo it doesnt look to promising, appears to be more of the same & whats with the speed, im sure they will have the option to slow it down tho as they usually have.
Not long till the demo so we will find out sooner rather then later peeps http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/supergrin.gif

They are gameplay movies which shows how passing and shooting are..
FerdyKorp 02-10-2002, 10:51:PM nice movie!
sunriu 02-10-2002, 10:52:PM seems that when the player sprints, the ball goes forward and then return a little to the player, also the control of the ball is too easy and it's fast very fast. But it is awesome!:rockman:
FerdyKorp 02-10-2002, 11:04:PM I have seen the movie a couple times, and i LOVE it, it looks so real, but the defenders from inter are defending bad beceause it is not the computer but the player, but the defending from Dortmund are doing well, and the nets looks reaL too, i cant wait for the demo:)
AcillateM 02-10-2002, 11:52:PM yep just like i thought same old s***t from fifa, pinball action but i´m waiting for the demo to confirm other year other crapy game.
the only good news i´ve heard so far is that Ea is going to stop making fifa game have year (thank god for that) so they can have more time for big improvements.
great video, but the passing system looks like 2001 :(
yugin 03-10-2002, 01:20:AM Yep, for me passing looks like old good FIFA 2001; I'm not impressed so far............................................... ..........??????!!!!!!!!!!!!
mihalll 03-10-2002, 01:36:AM What do u mean like fifa 2001? It's already known they've removed power bar for short passes and we'll c is it better or not.
But I'm disappointed for another reason. As we can c on this movie, when one team comes near opponents box there's - like usual - no one holding the back. Look at the radar - everybody's on the Inter half and there's only two defenders marking two Borrusia strikers waiting for a counter attack! U can also notice that in Real - Manchaster when Real's taking a goal kick and there's like five MU players standing and waiting at the opposite goal. And they dont look like coming back.
Damn u ea, on sg chat u claimed u have fixed stupid players positioning on the pitch! :kader:
pokwang 03-10-2002, 01:45:AM my thought about the video:
First of all, I'd say massive improvments from previous FIFAs. Looks like they've fulfilled part of their promises. We'll see how the AI turns out later.
1) The ball definitely doesnt stick to the player's feet. However it lacks inertia and "finesse" compared to PES. The passes also feels too fast and "perfect", it doesnt really bounce nor drag like a real ball would, like it's sliding instead of rolling on the pitch. A step in the right direction nevertheless.
2) Player models and animation is still the same as in previous FIFAs which is too bad. I hate FIFA's model and animation, sure the face looks realistic, but the body looks disproportionate-they more like ogres instead of humans. The animation still look exagerated and weird they should have hired batter and less agitated actors for the MC. They should take a leaf out of PES's book and make the animation moderate but effective.
3) The players physic is still quite primitive. They dont seem to have much inertia, they turn too quick, and dribbling the ball seems a bit too simplistic. It feels like the player is following the ball instead of kicking it around. Player to player contact doesnt seem to great either, they dont feel like they're really struggling for ball they just want to be ahead of their opponents and cutoff the ball cleanly, which rarely happens in pro football. They just barely touch each other, and made no effort to get the other player off the ball. Needs more work here.
All in all looks quite promising. It looks like WE3/Goalstorm98 gameplay but with the gfx updated to current standard. Definitely not the same old sh*t. But no idea about AI yet. And still a long way to go for EA BTW.:brow:

Hendrik 03-10-2002, 01:56:AM Nice video. Especially I like the the singing crowds. Now I want to play the demo :D
::..Federico Debla..:: 03-10-2002, 02:27:AM I have recently saw the large higher quality video, I LOVE THE GAME!, it's very similar to PES or WE...
The only error I note is that the players are waaaayyy small!!!
Yeah, the pitch is bigger you may say, but the players are tiny!!!
Don't know why... anyway it's lovely, and I can't wait for the demo.
See ya!

valioso 03-10-2002, 02:39:AM I saw the movie and it looks great, from what I have seen the ball does not come back to the player, but it just slows down, which it happens in real life as well.. The shots go low or high, the keep stopped the ball pretty well and it looks like the computer shoots in front of the goal instead of passing like previous years.
anyway the video looks promising, but we'll have to wait and play.
To all who are complaining, if you want to find something bad with a game you will. There are things wrong with PES and there are things wrong with FIFA, at least EA has finally taken note and taken a step in the right direction. So yes games will never be perfect and they all have flaws, so is up to you wether you give it a chance or not.

Yes, I agree..
and yesterday while I was thinking about the so hoped demo, I thought this..
Do you imagine if this year we get the hoped gameplay??? the next years EA will just retouch a bit the gameplay but they'll give us the most real graphics, the best options just because they won't have to be very preoccupied about GAMEPLAY---
We would maybe get other leagues, more play modes, and as I've said the best graphics (because the graphics doesn't seem to be the hard thing for EA).
Maybe the freekicks seem to be the hard thing after the gameplay- and that can be fixed, I think.
That is what I think about the upcoming FIFA's.
See ya!

::shinji:: 03-10-2002, 02:58:AM wtf is this crap? I almost wish I hadn't seen that video, talk about dissapointment!
I reallllllyyyyy hope that there is an option to SLOW the game down, because it almost looked like I was watching the game in fast forward! I don't know what EA are talking about, but there was nothing 'real' about the game I saw...
Please Konami!! Bring PES2 to North America, or at least make a new version of ESPN MLS Extratime! ANYTHING! :-s

of course there is room of improvement and ea must improve a lot of gameplay things at fifa2004 and so on fifa2005..6...10..55 :P

But I really like the game...

No, f*ck that! We been waiting for EA to produce a good game since 98....how many chances should they get, before nobody buys this crap anymore!? Ofcourse there's room for improvement in every game, but EA can't seem to get past some of their major flaws...just look at a game like ESPN MLS Extratime by Konami, a little known game that nobody cares about, yet it has a far more realistic gameplay than any FIFA. It's very limited in many aspects, but it actually FEELS like football, with great A.I....in fact, the A.I. is so good that sometimes I swear it feels like you're playing against a human opponent, and not the computer...and by the looks of it, you just might have to wait until FIFA55 for that!
::..Federico Debla..:: 03-10-2002, 03:16:AM Don't agree... but it's obvious, every person has its own mind, and I respect other's thoughts.

ManUtd SuperFan 03-10-2002, 03:17:AM agree!!!
so i would really like the Konami can enter the PC market
then
EA .... HAHAHAHAHA
enough
enough chances we have given EA already!
WC2002, see, the worst fifa series, star players, strange shoots with tails.....
what the hxll is going on!?
haha
rado907 03-10-2002, 03:37:AM First - how can you argue about a game you haven't played yet?
And second, PC gamers have no choice but Fifa, so it's good. ;)

This year's effort was driven by only one thing - Konami outsold EA in soccer-related titles last year in Europe. Period. That's the only reason so many people were thrown at this project from all over EA...to ensure that they become the leader in market share again.
Once that is again established, there's no telling what type of game we'll get from year to year, as FIFA 99, FIFA 2000, FIFA 2001, and FIFA 2002 amply demonstrate.
valioso 03-10-2002, 03:46:AM I like MLS Extratime and I am so glad Konami has lost the espn license maybe that way they will bring PES2 to North America. The only thing is that MLS 2002 was the same as the last one with only 2 teams less and it doesnt have many options, and they didnt even change anything because I started playing and beating the game in hard.
Of course EA has to improve a lot, and I didnt even buy the last 3 games, 2001, 2002 and wc2002, I havent decided if I will get this years or not, but at least EA are moving to the right direction. There is always an option to slow the game.

AcillateM 03-10-2002, 04:23:AM "El futuro de la serie
FIFA 2003 (GameCube)
the future of the series.
bla bla bla manager mode bla bla bla it was also coment that the development time will be bigguer betwen fifa´s becouse its the only way to inovate bla bla.
valioso 03-10-2002, 04:25:AM it may also mean that they will start development earlier, instead of 4 months, maybe they'll take 7, but they can still have it for next november..
AcillateM 03-10-2002, 04:31:AM don´t think so validoso. Ea can´t make improvements in one year working 24 7.
for this is good news i prefer wait longer and have a decent game tehn having a game every year that sucks.
valioso 03-10-2002, 04:34:AM well... they only had 4 months for this year, thats what they said in an interview..

Man, I really get tired of this kind of crap. First of all, everyone is entitled to his own opinions and I'm of course it's good to criticize EA's former games, cause they have many flaws. But I'm starting to get really sick of people bashing the game, when they don't know what they are talking about.
Sjinji, you saw a video, you didn't play the game. So, how can you already know they ****ed up this time??? I have seen a lot of this type of premature negativity around this board, but I would think mods would be a bit more patient and thoughtful about their contributions.

I just watched the video over and over again and I fully agree with this. Just take another look of the video and watch those Inter- defenders. If the AI was good, the CPU would have kept some other defenders back and under his control (like in PES).
Here the CPU let the human player save the situation.
I am serious, just put the video on hold at exactly 47.00:
Three attackers clear on goal, outrunning all cpu-controlled-defenders, leaving the poor human player on it's own against those three attackers. That's no good AI...
I also agree with the one who said the speed is too high.
saurabh 03-10-2002, 05:08:AM First of all i am annoyed with all such negative mentality people.I think you should give your these comments after seeing demo.
These are things which i saw in video
1.Very good cinematics, for entrance of players.
2.Very good looking stadium.
3.Adboards are not moving.
4.Commentry same as other fifa series.
5.Gameplay looks a lot improved.
6.Realastic popups with logos of team
7.Person who was playing was a big ****
In short i have liked fifa 2003 till now seeing videos .:D

Maybe the rotating adboards depends of the stadium... because in the ingame Roma V.S Juventus video the adboards were moving.
See ya!
saurabh 03-10-2002, 05:19:AM I dont think so,but it may be possible.:mrpimp:
gizmoy2k 03-10-2002, 05:23:AM just had a quick look and it looks good, except the lack of power bar for passing.
The ad board are not rotating because they dont at old trafford!!
I liked the big badge on the pitches before the game starts and the keeper looked more realistic thatn usual.
Finally we dont know what difficulty level this was on or what stage the AI is at. Its far to early for people to start ripping into EA. Judge when you get the demo, I could show you 2 minutes the a film like the Matrix and you might end up thinkin that its **** but it actually turns out to be immense!:D
valioso 03-10-2002, 05:34:AM is it really the AI fault that the dude controlling Inter just cant play? I mean c'mon, he makes the same horizontal pass with his center back twice and the second time gets intercepted... anyway.. I didnt see anything that bad in the video.. but like I said.. if you want to find something wrong you always will..
::..Federico Debla..:: 03-10-2002, 05:36:AM I asked Matt if he had some new news about the demo and he said not yet, so I think 2 things:
1- EA will not tell us if the demo is going to be realased today or tomorrow to create a surprise or something like that.
2- EA won't tell us about the date of the demo, because they're aren't 100% sure if the date WILL DEFINITIVELY BE THAT.
3- The demo isn't going to be out in theese 4 days.
Vote, or put your own, hehe.
See ya!
valioso 03-10-2002, 05:38:AM My vote is that is going to come out sometime next week but they dont know when yet

Again, I agree with this dude (Valioso).
and, the guy who was playing is worse than me!!! LOL!... I mean, he couldn't pass the half part of the pitch in the whole match!or at least in the part of the match we saw.
Maybe it was the first time he played, or so.
I don't know, but I'm really getting tired of the wait for the demo, I mean, I don't like to see ALL THOSE videos and screenshots without the chance to play the game; I know, you may say, if you don't want to see the videos don't download them, if you don't want to see screenshots don't see them; But the point is that I like seeing them, but I prefer play the demo ;)
See ya!
valioso 03-10-2002, 05:42:AM I agree I want to play the game.. but I am glad we finally get to see a decent gameplay footage movie..
::..Federico Debla..:: 03-10-2002, 05:44:AM yes! and with very good quality, the only thing that it's for GAME CUBE, so we don't really know how it'd looks like in PC-
The only error/mistake I noted in the game is that the players are very small, the other is very nice for me.
See ya!
valioso 03-10-2002, 05:48:AM i guess that if you have a good computer it will look like the gamecube.. I want to see some xbox footage because EA said that is better looking.. so we shall see
::..Federico Debla..:: 03-10-2002, 05:51:AM I don't know if I do have it.
I have the minimium requirments about the video card.... and I think that is the most important thing to get a nice performance talking about graphics... but we'll see, maybe I wouldn't be able to run it at 1024 x 768 but in 800 x 600.... or 640 x 480
DEMO, DEMO, DEMO, DEMO, LOL!!!
hehe
See ya!
saurabh 03-10-2002, 05:59:AM About rotating adboards
It is possible in fifa 2002,this info i just got from Bolzer.
gizmoy2k 03-10-2002, 06:07:AM ok!
the rotating boards are in 2003 jeezzz
Its just that every stadium doesnt have them, no doubt you would moan if old trafford did have them cause that would be "unrealistic"
And as for fifa on th Eggs-Box or any other console, it will never be as good or better that the pc version, creation center and AI fixes are half the fun with fifa and they will not be available to console this year.
Just hope its easier to learn how to make your own stadiums, it would be cool if there was like a drag 'n' drop stadium editor with different parts of stadia, i dare say you could make just about any thing you wanted.
Vanniss 03-10-2002, 06:14:AM Kind of thinking the ingame footage was somebody playing on easy. (if not damn)
Not seen latest Dortmund Inter kits but where they uptodate?
The movie was good in respect to showing the atmosphere which looks great gameplay wise still questions to be answered ill reserve judgement on that side till i have tried the game myself.
;)
the_man 03-10-2002, 06:26:AM The only reason PESx is brought into any FIFA discussion is to show/tell those of you who are unfortunate enough to have not played Konami's games taht things could be done better. NO ONE has said PES is perfect, all people are saying is FIFA could be better. Having said that, if you guys like FIFA as is, that is your problem. But this is what I'll say, if you have seen better, you will want FIFA to reach (and if possible) surpass other standards. The attitude of FIFA being untouchable, will get you back to how we were for about 3 years. No complaints, they so didn't change the game.
For those who have been around since last year, I remember myself and others coming on this board several times, bashing EA and FIFA to death. When I asked my question on the EA chat Q&A you know what was at the end of the reply?
"..and please continue with the constructive criticism like you have provided us with in the past."
That tells me that someone knows I bash the game, only for it to get better. Now I'm not saying that I single handedly made EA change gameplay. Ha! no no no, I'm saying that if you want things to be better, you have to speak up, if you don't, things will be the same.
If I really didn't care for FIFA, I really wouldn't be here. If I have lost complete hope for FIFA (I have some of my mates who have) I wouldn't waste my time. I have hope for FIFA (as little as it may be), but I know the game can be better than what they have been giving us. So, I'll continue to speak my mind about the game, good things with the bad.

That's the smartest thing I've read on this board.
I agree with the_man; we are on the same wavelength, so to say :)
But some people take it as an attack towards EA and because they like EA, they see it as an attack to themselfs... not intended to do that!
valioso 03-10-2002, 07:35:AM i think that if EA finally gets their act together with FIFA they can make a game better than PES, maybe next year or the one after that, just because they have much more resources when it comes to money and the amount of people and stuff like that.
SXFuzz 03-10-2002, 07:38:AM thought the video looked good, very fast, but good. only qualm I have with the game is that the D of the box is way too small, the players look like giants in comparison.

The only reason PESx is brought into any FIFA discussion is to show/tell those of you who are unfortunate enough to have not played Konami's games taht things could be done better.

Please anwser a simple question. How is a constructive criticism possible without playing a game? Sure, we can say a thing or two about the movies (and I doubt these are from final version) but comparing gamplay of two different games when u played only one of these... oh come on! :| It's ridiculous!
Wait for the demo!
Amen!
valioso 03-10-2002, 08:38:AM EA has been heavily critized after last yrs crap, I think thats what they were talking about

Why wuz there a video for us to watch..??
I'd say its to get a feel of how, the soon to come, game will be like. Right?
And if someone got a certain impression out of the game from the video, I don't see any problems with him comparing his thoughts from the video with other games he as played.
-And it is apparent from the video that there was almost NO build-up in gameplay.
-You just see a couple of passes quick struggle for the ball... and bam! you've got your first goal in no time.
-Yeah right the game is not in its final stage. And, sure you will see major changes in AI by now. -.-
Just by looking at those you could easily compare it with PES/WE right away, without even having to play the game.
And oh, don't say the arcade/simulation option will chage how the game plays. Just using pass experiences with FIFA and a little common sense with game developing, which is a VALID thought process, I don't see major differences in how the game will play toggling the simulation option on and off.
Well the good points from the video are
-Great graphics
-love the badge logos on the field... and the scores too
-Player head and body ratio has improved
-Nets look a lot better
[but net animation is really poor compared to WE/PES]
-Ball has finally been seperated and you could tell it has
[then again honestly the whole animation and physics don't flow as natural and realsitic as WE/PES]
-Crowds look great
etc...
visually FIFA2003 just look great with improved ball physics.
[not perfect yet, no game is, but again using my honest opinion, WE/PES has a more natural feel to it]
Overall, just by looking at the video, it has gave me both good and bad impressions about the new game. Mostly the dissapointment, having played WE6, comes from how the game LOOKED LIKE it played gameplay wise and the ball physics.
Well, I guess I just can't expect too much of a change/improvement at once from the likes EA has been producing.
But yes it is definitely promising. I see a decent game coming in just a couple of years from EA, or MAYBE even in a couple of days...
Footballer1387 03-10-2002, 09:16:AM I dont know if anyone already mentioned this, but Inter was controlled by a real person. This COULD explain MAYBE why Inter's defense was beaten so badly and efficiently, like if the guy wasn't a very good player or something.
I'm not saying this is definitely so, but I'm saying it's a possibility.

Computer games are to be enjoyed, not criticised. If you don't like it then don't show an interest in it.
Ah yes...not unlike the "America, love it or leave it" sentiment, and just as misinformed.
IF - and its a big "if" given the boggled brains at FIFA Marketing AG in Zurich - FIFA were as intelligent a sport governing body as, say, the NFL they might, like the NFL, provide their license not just to one software company, but rather spread the FIFA license out among many companies such that competition might be fostered, and consumers might have real choice among FIFA-licensed soccer gaming products.
For example, just this year there is Madden NFL 2003, NFL Fever 2003, and Sega's NFL 2K3. All licensed with the NFL and NFLPA, and all competing with each other to produce the BEST, most AUTHENTIC, American football experience available. Far from limiting sales, most console owners I know have bought two or three of the NFL titles, just to get all possible NFL gaming experiences; that's what competition can do, provide the marketplace with multiples of quality product.
Unfortunately, FIFA has no marketing foresight. Thus, we are left with the frustration of having to deal with EA; oddly enough, it wasn't until a product that can't even get a sniff of the FIFA license, Konami, began laying the smackdown on EA's soccer product all over Europe that EA began to act upon the criticism that is rightly levelled at them given that they (and FIFA) have positioned themselves as THE software representation of an authentic world fotball experience. If that's the case, why shouldn't enthusiasts with no other options (relative to a FIFA-licensed product) be EXTREMELY critical? They, through that criticism, are exercising the only engine of change other than product abandonment, which would actually be the best solution, but is a phenomenon that is highly unlikely to hapen, for the same reasons that EA never put any real work into the product between FIFA RTWC98 and now...soccer gaming's popularity is overwhelming.
It also doesn't help that Konami is as blind to the soccer PC market as they are; PES2 on PC would definitely drive EA to give critics what they want....authentic, immerisve gameplay taht is easy to learn but difficult to master...

Mate, where there is smoke, fire is usually close by. You can see the "smoke" in the videos and screenshots. If I see a problem in a gameplay vid, do you think playing the demo is going to make that problem disappear?
But even when I have played the demo and if I complain, you'll come back and say that the demo is not the complete version, the complete version will be better.
valioso 03-10-2002, 09:33:AM i agree with Universal.
About the lack of buildup.. if you lose the ball in the midfield line.. is called a counter attack.. no build up needed.. it wasnt a quick score.. is the start of the second half.. and yes the human player completely has no knowledge of passing and when to pass... but that lack of build, if you notice.. the human guy.. loses the ball everytime because he has to pass the ball in order to advance.. Thats what I got from the video..

Yeah, who ever was playing really seemed like he was struggling with the game.
But then why would a person like that be playing a pre-release version of the game now??
Yes, it MAY be a counter if you lose the ball from the mid. But, the vid did give an impression of a fast paced arcadic impresssion and it seemed to simple too score.
[And again, as much as i HATE to say this, that is when compared with PES/WE given the same situation]
Maybe its just cuz the person whoever wuz playing it.
Who knows..
Now......
where's the fr$kin demo~~??!
The Don't 03-10-2002, 11:33:AM My theory is that the game was simply on amateur and fast speed. This doesn't mean that is an excuse though. It is disappointing in my view, the simple lucky tackle then through on goal, then a goal.
In the back of my mind I've got a feeling that this type of thing only happens in amateur mode, and it is rare at that. Hopefully, just hopefully.

Please Konami!! Bring PES2 to North America, or at least make a new version of ESPN MLS Extratime! ANYTHING! :-s
PES 2 still rules...FIFA 2003 is a children game. Not for "hardcore" players like me. Fortunatly i'm going to play Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2 this winter ( and all next year till PES3 comes) while this F*****g FIFA's "lovers" still playing that pinball crappy game... :p :p

Chikitop 03-10-2002, 02:15:PM I've tought of something.
If EA in fact succeded in separating the balls from players feet (that sounds painfull), then that means that the ini file will have new lines to play with and try to make more and more of our taste!
This are good news for PC owners!!
Unfortunatelly for me, my PC no longer cuts the slack, I'll have to get myself a PS2 version. :f***:

exactly my thoughts too (until pes comes out on pc, then i won't care about fifa anymore :crazyboy: )
I think that the game looks good, although a little fast but I just can't wait to delete all my FIFA 2002 stuff and begin on FIFA 2003, I really don't care about gameplay that much, because I mostly like to edit the game and make it look better...

It's very good that you do that, but you still have the alternative to download an emulator from the internet and play ISS PE2 or any other of the Konami soccer games, which still has better gameplay than any FIFA game....
There are some topics on this board about playing with emulators, so try a search to it if you are interested...
I did that too until I bought a PS 2.
fanelia 03-10-2002, 11:35:PM Ok , everybody have seen the movie but I can't see it and just see the very poor quality of the first and old movie of fifa benelux !
I just want to know just a thing about the new mov : Is there some sequence of free kik or not ?
If yes ,like in the old movie , is anybody notice the no movement of players (the two team players) in the box or in the reception area ?
I think this prob MUST BE resolve before the full game release !
I'm here not for "arghing" or critising this fifa version 'cause I know ,like everybody, that EA have "reinvented" a new game in a very short time and THIS A FACT WE MUST ALL APPRECIATE for this terrific effort by them !
But the prob of free kik 's movement players is very severe !
For the speed of the game : Yes it is right that the game have some very speed transition (passing , control ball ...) or the person in the old movie who play with Real is God !
I think this is a problem in the ball control and not the speed of player run 'cause is the ball of fifa will be "really" separate from player (like they say ?) there will not this prob of speed game : player must execut a good control after a hard or speedy pass (like in movie) for playing the ball so they must lost time to do it , like in real ! They must do it for a REAL SEPARATE BALL PHYSIC but in the movie I don't know ... ?
But for the all gameplay , WE MUST Wait the demo for testing it but in movie we can't appreciate all factor !
But just a thing , IT IS THE GOOD DIRECTION !!!!;)
