View Full Version : Liverpool V Spurs (R) maddog1983 27-10-2002, 04:52:AM 2-1 a late michael owen penalty !! great second half !! how bout danny murphys goal !! Great win and now with the other results we have a nice buffer at the top ytwoaone 27-10-2002, 05:03:AM btw October/November is always Arsenal's dodgy period, so enjoy your extended stay at the top - it'll be normal service restored by May Neutral LFC 27-10-2002, 05:03:AM Murphy's goal was brilliant and Owen made the penalty for himself (and finished it himself). Tottenham played really well (Acimovic was brilliant when he came on) and made it very difficult, but I was really impressed (yet again) with Liverpool's character in getting straight back to finding a winner after Richards scored. Anyway, another 'boring boring' Liverpool match...... ;) maddog1983 27-10-2002, 05:04:AM i think looking back we were very lucky to come away with 3 points today . you look at danny murphys goal and if it was the winner it would have been deserved but i felt Spurs out played us for a large part of the match and that we were lucky to not concede twice when poyet fired in a header and a shot (great save by dudek) It was great to have stevie G back on the right ... what did you all think of Smicer... The commentator said "he livened up the game" but he looks like bollocks so much .. his touch is good but his passing is avg ! either way a great win !! good to get away with three against a danger team like spurs ! Good to see Jamie Redknapp playing well for spurs too !! Luck, smuck - so many other teams would have folded after conceding a late equalizer, especially since the other team has the momentum - but today and at Bolton we've showed grit & determination. I think the play was probably 50/50 - Tottenham had a shot cleared off the line - Owen should have scored from Baros' set up. The difference between the two teams was character IMO, besides 4 points up in first place - I'm just going to enjoy it rather than berate the team, no one has the devine right to win. I thought Smicer livened up the game too - he's final ball was piss poor (he should have passed to Baros or Owen, both were open but instead he shot) but what he did that was missing before was that he stretched the field out more. He dragged Bunje-cord out to the right side (Spurs' left) and made more space in the middle of the park. He didn't set the world on fire but he livened up the game. Most important thing is we won, I can't ask for anything more than that. EDIT: Yup, I am so happy to see Redders fit again and playing regularly, and I'm glad he got such a great reception from the Anfield crowd. Amika 27-10-2002, 05:54:AM well.. i'm d@mn happy on the result.. it is game like this that you walk away eventhough you're not on top that will matter at the end of the season... somemore arsenal slipping up again at home...:fluffy::fluffy: Owen was looking for the penalty and he trick carr in making the tackle.... :) :jambo: Owen celebrate his goal... Murphy's goal was amazing from a standing start and I could've kissed Owen - Yids drop another 2 points, we'll finish above them yet! Larry 27-10-2002, 09:22:PM Murphys goal was great. He was giving almost no space, and he curled it out of nothing. Awesome. Poyet should have scored tho before that. And then a nice header by Richards. Then that stupid penalty :f***: Amika 28-10-2002, 02:38:PM Originally posted by g-14 Murphys goal was great. He was giving almost no space, and he curled it out of nothing. Awesome. Good to see Jamie Redknapp playing well for spurs too !! "We"? Don't recall seeing you out there.;) Anyway, I really don't feel that Liverpool were outplayed for the large part. Tottenham did have a good spell when Poyet threatened, but I don't think that we "got away" with anything. The same tactics that were used on Chelsea worked a treat again. After going ahead, conceding a goal was obviously not part of the plan, but the way that Liverpool changed gears was testament to the side's character so long missing at the club. I also thought that Smicer played well considering that it was his first appearance for some time. I do like Gerrard on the right at times, but when Simcer came on there was instantly more width to Liverpool's play, and the cumulative effect was far greater than what Smicer did with the ball. Tottenham's defence looked more 'strung out' from that moment on. Overall I think that it was a deserved victory. :) |
