you might already know this, but there is a new album coming up (H)

i was just searching for different albums, on cdnow.com, and i found this:

http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1515364747/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=SYSTEM+OF+A+DOWN/itemid=1619853

so i searched more:
http://www.buzzwords.com/News/657.html

this is a great news :) most of the songs will probably be the rare ones Dragan already told me about, but nevertheless its nice that they are actually gonna be released on a CD :shades: :mrpimp: maybe this is the Toxicity II your friends were talking about, Dragan?

This has got to be the weirdest album-release i've ever heard of!?.........This is the story as i know it, which seem pretty trustworthy.....:

SOAD's nxt album (after Toxicity) wasn't supposed to be out until some time next year, but few months ago, apprently, some hackers broke into their computer and stole/copied several demo tracks. Fans everyone got hold of it, and were very excited to hear about SOAD's new material.....but SOAD wasn't that happy......they think it's a shame that fans out there are listening to unfinished/unpolished SOAD material, and that is why they decided to release it earlier.........i've read on mtv it'd be out FALL.............but hey, it's almost winter, so it shoudl be out soon.......not to say NOW!

I am looking VERY forward to this release...they are one of the few recent (well, recent for someone my age) bands I think are worth listening to.

Yeah, one of the few talented bands from the so called "nu-metal" wave of the 90's.............i used to listen to bands like Limp Bizkit..till i found SOAD and now bands like QOTSA.....last time i had some Limp Bizkit on my cd player was over a year ago.....hehe........nowhere near SOAD's talent! Yes well at least Limp Bizkit got the 'limp' part right. I was thoroughly disappointed with the 'nu-metal' wave, I was raised as a youngster on the 'old' metal, like pre-1990 Metallica, megadeth, Slayer etc. and the nu-metal just seemed far too 'poppy' for me, not enough passion and agression but a far more 'manufactured'-metal if you ask me. Don't get me wrong I like other genres of music also but am very specific (e.g. favorite rap/ hip-hop would be without a doubt Public Enemy, i also like Dandy Warhols, Pixies etc.)

Basically I had given up on this sort of music after Rage Against the Machine, who I still really like, but System of a Down have given me another option :D

Yeah, i remember, before it was all like Limp Bizkit and all.........but after i got SOAD, i can never go back to Limp or POD........not necesarily because it's 100% crap, but it just doesn't have the soul of stuff like SOAD........i mean............i've been listening to SOAD more then anything else in my life now..........my record was probably, that everytime i got a Metallica record, i'd listen to it intensively for like a month.........but there pretty much hasn't been a day since Christmas 2001 that i haven't put on atleast one SOAD track!!! :mrpimp:

Yeah, Limp Bizkit is Fred Durst's (a record company exec.) attempt to make some money. Being an important record exec, he "popped" it up and sold tons of records.

Wasn't he singer first - exec later, once he had the money?
I could be wrong.

Yeah i'm pretty sure it's like............i'm sure he wasn't Exec at the time they made their first album, which is pretty raw and non-commercial as it seems to me (don't have it actually), with their next album (have it), it became a bit more hip-hop and more idle for MTV, and with Chocolate Starfish (have it aswell) it just went completely sh!t......:kader:

lol! the sh!t was what chocolate starfish was referring to...

but yeah, Lame Bizkit are nothing more than the 'metal' (if you can call it that) equivalent of the manufactured 'pop' bands, whereas System of a Down actually have a point other than making $. I mean, Freddie baby even admits his mission is to make as much $ as he can out of the teenagers who buy the records...if thats your thing then fine but imo music is a vehicle for expression, and my favorite music always has some sort of message.

Yeah, that's what i love about System Of A Down, they don't give a fu** if their next album sells 100,000 copies or 10,000,000........they'll still be out there.....making (GREAT, AMAZING) music :mrpimp: :hump: (H)

I'm looking forard to it, but not as much as when I get the new Opeth CD - should be fecking brilliant, and another one's coming out in a couple of months to make a double CD - one heavy, one soft.

Anyway, some of those songs are sweet and others I haven't heard yet, so it should be great album.

The acoustic track with just Daron and Serj singins is just beautiful! :) And another song, that was never leaked, Ego Brain, is just great aswell, a mix between Aerials and Toxicity is what it sounds like, and it's also good! This album also seems to have alot more harmonizing between Daron and Serj on vocals, like on tracks like Deer Dance, Chop Suey, Aerials and ATWA from Toxicity, os if you liked that, Steal This Album won't be a dissapointment for you! :)

Q. Who are the current members of System of a Down?
A. Serj Tankian - Vocals
Daron Malakian - Guitar
Shavo Odadjian - Bass
John Dolmayan - Drums

Andy Khachaturian, lead singer of The Apex Theory, was the drummer from 1995-1997.

Q. How old are the band members. Do they have girlfriends, etc, etc?
A. We will not divuldge any personal information whatsoever. If you really need to know those things, search
elsewhere. It's all about the music here!

Q. Where does the name SYSTEM OF A DOWN come from?
A. Quoted from original bio: "It came from a poem our guitarist, Daron, had written, called 'Victims of a Down,'"
explains Serj. "He brought it to us, and 'System' was chosen as a better, stronger word, and it makes it into a
'whole,' instead of the people in particular, it's the society."

The poem has never been available, so don't ask.

Q. What does the hand on the front of the self-titled album mean?
A. It's something from John Hardfield. In the 1920's he put it out in a Communist newspaper, called "The Hand with
Five Fingers." It symbolizes the ability of people who rebel against totalitarianism.

Serj also once referred it as meaning, Five fingers to **** you with, though I'm not sure this was the original intent!

Q. What do the band members do outside of SYSTEM OF A DOWN?
A. Daron is currently producing a CD for the band The Ambulance (http://www.theambulance.com/default2.htm).

Serj has Serjical Strike Records (http://www.serjicalstrike.com), where he has signed three bands - Bad Acid Trip,
Kittens for Chainsaws, and Slow Motion Reign.

Sometime in 2003, through Serjical Strike Records, he will be releasing two collaboration projects. The first being
Serart with Arto Tuncboyaciyan. The name comes from the first 3 letters of their names, but is has a deeper
meaning: Ser means "love" in Armenian, so it also means Love Art. Then there's the Bad Girls project with Scottish
singer Petra Jolly.

He has also self-published his own book of poetry entitled, Cool Gardens.

Shavo keeps busy working on the visual side of things (i.e. videos, directing, etc.).

John will be playing drums on a couple of albums. Whether he'll be playing on full length albums or just a few songs
is unknown at this time.

Q. What? Was that...?
A. Yes. That was Shavo in Zoolander.

THE SONGS

Q. Did SYSTEM OF A DOWN write that Zelda song?
A. NO!! Stop asking!!

Q. Flake or Friik??
A. No idea. An interviewer in Canada asked a question about System's first song ever written and she clearly called it
Flake. Shavo's reaction was of utter surprise. Later, I questioned whether she meant Friik as the rolling of the "r" in
the name would make it seem like "flake." The problem is seeing Shavo react to it the way he did, which was odd
because we've known about Friik for years. Many people believe that Flake is, in fact, Friik, but no definite answer has
come out. So until then, they remain two separate songs.

Q. What is said in the beginning of Chop Suey!?
A. "We're rolling Suicide."

Q. Suicide?
A. Suicide was the original working title for Chop Suey!, which was obviously later changed. It's just a play on words:
Chop Suey(cide).

Q. What does ATWA stand for?
A. Air Trees Water Animals - a philosophy of Charles Manson.

Q. Who are the Kombucha Mushroom People?
A. They do not exist. The Kombucha Mushroom is a bacteria, not a mushroom, that is used as alternative medicine to
treating many ailments - the most notable being HIV/AIDS.

Eyesore's Theory:
The Kombucha Mushroom was introduced in the LA community in 1995, most widely used by homosexual people
suffering from HIV in the gay community. The song Sugar was written in 1995, in LA, so the closest thing I can come
up with is: The Kombucha Mushroom People is a reference to the the doctors practicing alternative medicine and using
the Kombucha Mushroom (bacteria) as a form of treatment. Sugar is the main ingredient in creating the medicinal
solution known as Kombucha Mushroom.

Q. What does Storaged mean?
A. Storaged comes from the Armenian word STORAKET which means comma. The title has no reference to the
meaning of the song other than the fact that the lyrics have many commas in it (i.e. "dont forget me, don't forget me,
don't forget me, don't forget, revolt, revolt, revolution, counter revolution, counter, counter revolution").

Q. Is there a list of what cover songs SYSTEM OF A DOWN has played live?
A. Here's a known listing - songs were played in full, or in part:

Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd
Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits
La Isla Bonita by Madonna
When the Smoke is Going Down by Scorpions
Coming Home by Scorpions
Paranoid Android by Radiohead
China Girl by David Bowie
Sartarabad Traditional Armenian
Weekends by Debbie Deb
Children of the Sea by Black Sabbath
Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon

Q. Is [insert name here] by SYSTEM OF A DOWN?
A. There are numerous songs listed on the net as actually being by System Of A Down when, in reality, they are not
and they sound nothing like System Of A Down, except the Zelda song, that guy actually sounds a lot like Serj.
Below is a partial list of songs people confuse as System songs, and the actual real artists (if known):

- Zelda is by Rabbit Joint
- Kill The Assholes is by SOD (Stormtroopers of Death)
- Speak English or Die is by SOD (Stormtroopers of Death)
- Plastic Jesus is by Ernie Mars
- Pussy Whipped is by SOD (Stormtroopers of Death)
- Walk With Your Head Up (actually title is Head Up) is by Deftones
- Marijuana In Your Brain is by Lords of Acid
- Bled For Days is by Static-X
- What I'll Be is by ????
- A Day In The Strife is by ????
