To all of those people in Europe and possibly South America, I am asking for help. I own the american version of FIFA 2003 FOR THE XBOX, the problem is I have a man I absolutely hate on the cover, LANDON DONAVON. I have seen the cover of the game from other parts of the world with Ryan Giggs, Edgar Davids and Roberto Carlos. How can I get a cover like the one you fortunate people have.

I love the Mexican soccer team aqnd in the past world cup DOnovan helped in eliminating my squad from the competition, that is why I hate the guy.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

:-puke:

IM DISGUSTED BY U.S. PLAYER, CLAUDIO REYNA HAS NO BALLS!!!

Damn, man, Mexico LOST. Get over it. Why hate Donovan just because he helped the U.S. win. That's what he gets paid to do. It's not as if he dived in the penalty box or kicked an player when he was lying on the ground or deliberately struck an opposing player in the head late in the game. Oh . . . wait . . . that was YOUR team pulling that crap.

... I will defend to death your right to say it! I think you can get a copy of the international cd cover with Davids, Giggs and Carlos, at http:\\downloads.soccergaming.com. And don't let anybody dictate who you should like or not - as long as it's not for some reason like racism or any other such idiocy. Hell, the US kicked Jamaica's butt in a friendly prior to WC 2002, and I'm not particularly keen on the guy myself! Ah well... (sigh)

#1 the usa cover isnt bad at all, and the game is what is important, I dont even look at the cover after I get the game going....
#2 Dont hate americans.. :)
#3 Donovan is NOT playing in Holland, Earnie Stewart is, and yes he is half dutch half american.
#4 Donovan is a great player...

Donovan is with Bayer Leverkusen.

Germany beat us, doesn't mean I now hate all Germans and everyone on the team. I was actually more pissed at Brazil beating England.

Plus Mexico deserved to loose that game that was my favorite game of the whole World Cup.

07-11-2002, 10:43:AM
True, we have had Mexico's number the last 3 years.. , and we could have beaten Germany, doesnt mean I hate them, or Poland.. or anyteam in the world.. I respect all teams.. I love footy

07-11-2002, 11:56:AM
I'm Mexican and I think the guy that post the first message screw it very bad!!
I mean, if Donovan help the US beat Mexico, it was not his fault, that's why he was there.
Mexicos loss was because of a very bad team management, and the US beat them fairly. I don't like Donovan anyway, I dont hate him, it's that I just don't like how he plays, that's all, but that doesn't mean I hate him, and about the cover, please, if you don't like it, just dont look at it!!
And yes, the US take the number of Mexico national team, but don't get to over confident guys, most of the teams of the MLS were beaten buy teams of the Mexican League... yeah probably this means nothing, but the next generation of players from the Mexican National Team are going to be harder to beat!!

Gascoigne USA
07-11-2002, 11:58:AM

I totally agree with you, that Cuahutemoc Blanco is a SOB, he thinks he is so good, but he's not that good!!

I think that the players need to be more humble, the get paid a lot of money, and sometimes they just think only on the money, instead of thinking on playing well!!

I know what you meant. The thing is he doesn't not play in Holland. He currently plays in the MLS for the SJ Earthquakes. Bayer Leverkusen has his rights still and he is on loan to SJ that is why I was asking if i missed something. As far as I know he does not play in Holland.

Well your still wrong, as far as I know, Donovan plays for San Jose here in the USA, and is still the property of Bayern Leverkusen in Germany, so how he is playing in holland is beyond me. Your thinking of John O'Brien, who plays for Ajax.. and is 100% american.

Iggy
08-11-2002, 06:30:AM
Well, whatever, it's O'Brien... They r both americans, so no big difference. Donovan could be a better player, but i can't see why is he on the FIFA 2003 cover. There are many better players than him, and usa is not so good in football. But, it's true that they were good on wc 2002 in corea/japan... But, nothing special...

Gascoigne USA
08-11-2002, 06:38:AM
Why must you hate us enough to actually believe "we are not so good at football" WE ARE THAT good... and Germany was only one hand ball on the goal line away from a much different game.. Mexico got pounded.. all the "great" "better" "more skillfull" players on Portugal couldnt overpower us. The fact is we are good at football, we arnt the best, we are good. Plain and simple.

Look, i don't hate u. Just, i don't like your style of life. Why? There must be 60% of american people who don't know what is football (a real name for the game where players using their legs to move the ball, not soccer). I just don't understand how can u call your game (like rugby) football? Players in that game r using only 5% to move a ball with their legs.
Why it is not "american rugby" and not "american football" like it is now?

Alright listen up, WAY less then 60% know what football is... and yes football is a much better name for it.. but more then JUST the USA calls it soccer.. Like Australia, as well as other... but eitherway.. Sports does not determin a style of life.

O.K. That's good if it is less. Anyway, i really don't know who made that word: soccer. Well, i'm sure that some american guy said: "from now we will call our game football, and that game in europe and all world will be called soccer. It does not matter if our game has absolutely no match with foot and ball, but we got our word for it! Now, we r the best... yeeeey..."

I havent heard it any other way.. even Germany's own players knew they were outplayed.

Actually, i believe the WC was proof that the USA is gaining ground on the rest of the world. FOOTBALL/SOCCER is probably more popular now than it ever has been here in the US. We have a HUDGE number of people here developing as we speak, and i'm sure over the next 10 year's the USA will be VERY competative on the pitch.:D

BTW, i'm a fan of BOTH, the US AND Mexico and i think they both represent the CONCACAF well.

Be glad it's Donovan on the cover and not Mia Hamm (no offence ladies) :crazyboy:

On another note, I think the US team did so well in the world cup mainly because of the fact that many players are based in European leagues and get the correct exposure.
But don't forget that this was a world cup full of upsets.
Who would have predicted S-Korea would reach the Semis.
Senegal, Turkey, USA were the big upsets.

It's a good thing if the US does well, that means more coverage on TV, more publicity for the beautiful game.

I think I agree with what the originator of this post is saying... even though I dont hate landon donovan... i think that he should not be on the cover because he's only been a star for uMm almost a year... I think EA should have put Claudio Reyna or McBride or John O'brien... I think these players are more established at club n country level than donovan is... but donovan is a great player...i think he is one of the few americans that can play the beautiful game....hMmmm... I think I would have liked the cover more if Edgar Davids was on it...he is a classic soccer player...i loved watching him play soccer when he wasa over here playing against the US in a friendly b4 the WC...he was absolutely brilliant with the ball!!!!!!!!

hMMm...well best of luck for donovan n the us team...great team!!!!

Well about the us doign so well because of european based players is true to a extent... I would love to see other us players play there.. but lets be real here.... All but ONE goal the US scored, was scored by MLS based players... 1 gainst Portugal (McBride) and 2 if you count Agoos brillant own goal :), 1 againt Korea (Mathis), 1 against Poland (Donovan), 2 against Mexico (McBride, Donovan). So as we can see the MLS had had a huge impact on the US National team... and we would NOT have done so well without it. Just look through-out the years when all we had was players playing pro elsewhere. Never did so well.. MLS is big... but would love to see the likes of Mathis and beasley and others playing in Europe.

Why it is not "american rugby" and not "american football" like it is now? I have to agree with you the game called football here in the states is an utterly stupid sport, they call it a man's game yet there nothing more than a bunch of pansy's in tight's:hump: even more so women play the game now. With due respect to the NFL, calling the sport "American Football" is laughable, especially when they hold the "ball" most of the time with their hands. The use of feet is far less in this sport.
It may be manly, with all the physical tussling and it may also be very popular here in the States, but to call it "Football" and to call the real football "soccer" is a joke IMHO.

I havent heard it any other way.. even Germany's own players knew they were outplayed. Actually your the one fooling yourself the WC is not like the olimpics it's much harder to win a WC than at the olimpics where the USA always does well,Look at the examples of England and Spain they both have World Class Leagues yet England has only managed to win 1 WC and that was in 1966 on their home soil which is a shame really(no offense to the English) since the English practically invented the modern game of Football. Now for Spain, Spain has arguably the best League in the world they always come to WC with no lack of talent and something big is always expected of them yet the best they've ever managed was a 4th place finsh at a WC about 60 years ago.Oh I'm also forgetting about Holland(or the Netherlands by which ever name you want to call it)Holland didn't even make it to the World Cup despite having a star studded team though they've had a huge impact at past World Cup's they've made it to the WC Final about 2 or more time's once they lost to Argentina the other time they lossed it to Germany. These are all fine examples of Country's boasting World Class Leagues as well as players, Country's where there's no lack of talent or intreset and support on behalf of the people of all ages and gender. These are all things the USA does not have they don't have the players or the League nor the support of the people which is of utmost importance.England,Holland,Spain it took them many a decade to get where they are today so to say the USA is going to win a WC or have a real impact on World Football is ridiculous and laughable,I have nothing against the USA there performance at this year's WC was good, but in the end all i'm trying to say is the USA won't be wining a WC or have a REAL presence in World Football anytime soon simply because they don't have the history though this year's WC was a good start. :mrpimp:

Hydro,

Have you ever played football (american)? While it may not be the most popular sport around the globe, it DOESN'T suck. It may not require as much skill as football (the kind played with your feet) or be as physically demanding for that matter but it certainly doesn' suck. Gascoigne USA
12-11-2002, 03:13:AM
The US is getting better, and can beat anyone on any given day, like most top 20 teams, you never know.. nothing is a given...

As for the dopes saying NFL doesnt require skill, all I can do is laugh... there is NO professional sport that doesnt require skill, NFL requires tons of skills as a whole more skill is required bv different position then say soccer. The lineman (the ones youc all fat slobes) have to have great stamina and blocking skills, and they are in physically good shape, even if they are fat.. they have to bend down all game, blocking much faster, sometimes stronger guys.. Quarterbacks have to completely different skills...

NFL as a whole requires a HUGE amount of skill... Look I dislike Crickett, but I would never be so nieve to say that is required no skill. Saying stuff like that shows that either your completely ignorant, or you 12 years old.. and dont know any better.

PS btw: US is a world talent at soccer.. are they a top 5, world class World Cup contender.. umm not really.. but we did finish 8 out of 32, and very easily should of beaten Germany, who we outplayed.. So give up some respect.

Haha, quite the flamewar, seriously though, we all know Football rules, which is why we are on this forum. But c'mon saying something like "American Football requires no skill" is just a rather abrasive way of saying "I don't like it."

I personally enjoy American Football (even though the Vikings SUCK), but I can't respect a sport with *commercial breaks* written in the rules (quarters, two-minute warnings to name a few) as much as I do real Football. Also American Football has way too much downtime. If some of you Europeans wonder why Americans can watch such a slow sport, grab an assload of beer and friends and watch it :mrpimp: then you'll see.

Also I don't think Football is gaining popularity in America. The massive amount of fair-weather fans (not to mention the INSANE patrotism during that time) that peeked out during the World Cup already forgot what the sport is.

Not only Americans reffer to thier game as "football" rugby league clubs in the uk such as Wigan had the name "Wigan rugby league football club" which used to confuse the hell out of visiting fans to the real football club in Wigan many times coach`s with away fans to football would go to the rugby league ground.

sorry was bored thought this might lighten up the anti "American football" theme in here:)

So many of you guys don't have a clue...

Personally, I like sports. I like to compete and I like to watch a good competition. Football/Soccer is my favorite sport. But through the year I watch Football/Soccer, American Football, Australian Football, Gaelic Games, Basketball, Tennis, Rugby whatever...

I don't really care what games you like or think are stupid... I am glad I live in a place where there is a great variety of sport (not to knock other places). Cause I like to Play and run and Jump and kick and hit and throw etc.

Anyone who is so closed minded so that the only sport for them is football/soccer is kind of sad... that is kind of like deciding Ham and Cheeses is the best sandwhich and then eating it exclusively for the next 25 years.

You see fella's, the problem is, we're arguing with a couple of nimrod's. Anyone who through's out insult's so effortlessly, "NFL Suck's" among other's, is either a) 15 yrs old, or b) skipped class the day they were teaching lesson's in tact. Granted, this is a forum to 'discuss' this stuff, but only kid's or idiot's "insult' rather than 'elaborate'. Yes, it's hyppocritical to call you 'nimrod's', but i'm trying to make a point here.

Anyway, sport's in general are a good thing, regardless of where you live etc. They bring country's, and people together. It's all good. O.K....group hug now. Peace.;)

Why shouldn't Donovan be on the cover? Each part of the world gets a different player on the cover gorrect? Well the big story in North America is the US national team coming out of nowhere to kick ass, and the big player in north America at the moment is Landon Donovan. So it makes sense. Plus more Fifa sales come from the US and Canada than from Mexico, so it makes more sense to have a US or Canadian player on the cover of the game. Simple fact is that Donovan will sell better on the cover in North America than a Mexican player would. It's business. It's just like having Davids on the cover in Parts of Europe, it would sell better than having a guy from the Russian league. Purely a marketing ploy.

Soccer in the US is one of the top 2 league sports played by kids and teens along wiht baseball. When you say that soccer isn't popular do you mean the act of watching a soccer game on tv from the MLS or Europe, or do you mean the act of actually playing the game. Because soccer is very popular to play. But most Americans don't care to watch the games. the resons are:

90 minutes, about 60 minutes of which are rather slow and most people find boring.

People just don't give a damn about what Man u. or Ajax are doing. We're in the US they're over in Europe, it becomes hard for people here to get into a sport taking place overseas.

Poor exposure. I live in new York, and we get 1 MLS game a week, 1 Premiership game sometimes on weekends, 2 Mexican games on Sundays on 2 differnt Spanish tv stations. and sometimes 1 Campions league game. So some people will watch the MLS game. The Premiership game is often on in the middle of the night, or during American football games on SUnday, so few people watch. The Mexican games draw little crowd because everything is in Spanish. and the Champions league games are at 3 or 4pm on weekdays when most people are working. So people don't have much of an oppritunity to really sit down and watch a good soccer game, unless they want to skip work, listen to an overzealous Spanish announcer, or miss an NFl game. I bet in Europe you guys get a ton of games to watch, and good games too. Hell, I'd love it if the Serie A games were on here but they aren't.

So in colclusion, Soccer will NEVER be the main sport here. It may one day overtake hockey, and threaten baseball, but basketball and football (US) are too huge for soccer to ever overtake. There just isn't the room for another major sport right now. I mean, if ABC or NBC or CBS wanted to show a Premiership or Serie A game during primetime on Saturday or Sundays, soccer may grow here, but no stationw ants to take that risk because they know the interest just isn't there right now.

But we do have alot of talent here, as I said soccer is huge among kids and teens as a sport played, but just not watched. I mean do you guys in Span England, and Holland follow MLS or Mexi league games and leagues closely? So how do you expect the general American public to follow your games closely?

You're absolutely right. I dare not say anything negative about other country's, but here in the US, we just have so much to offer the youth. If you ask a kid in the US what or who he want's to be like when they grow up, you'd get answer's like: Derek Jeter, Kobe Bryant, Brett Favre etc...but i tell ya what, soccer is on the rise here, no doubt. My ex-girlfriend is a sporting good's telemarketer, and her company's research showed that soocer (football for the rest of ya) is second only to hockey in improving merchandise sales (not overall, this is of course NFL and baseball, but in increased popularity). Soon, these kid's WILL be saying "Donovan" or "Wolff".

Quick note about TV coverage:

You may think that not many people watch games on Univision or Telemundo... But what you didn't take into account is that those 2 stations get ratings on Par with or better than the Big 4 US TV networks.

A HUGE portion of the US population speak spanish and that is why we have so many soccer games.

I get more free Mexican league games on TV than my Family in Monterrey Mexico.
