MONACO THINK MÁRQUEZ WILL SIGN FOR DEPORTIVO

Saturday Nov 9 - AS Roma of Capello are said to be very interested in signing Mexican defender Rafael Márquez of AS Monaco. But according to calciomercato.com, Deportivo are now the big favourites to sign the talented defender whose name also has been related to Real Madrid.

The Italian webpage links the interest to some words of Henry Biancheri, responsible for signings at Monaco. "I know that Sensi, the president of Roma, likes the player very much. But above all there's Deportivo, who have offered us 15 million Euro for Márquez. I think he will be sold to Spain", he said.

A possible signing of Márquez would mean adding just another central defender to the squad, as there are already Naybet, Donato, César, Djorovic, Pablo Amo and Jorge Andrade in it.

Worst positioned of all these players is Yugoslavian defender Goran Djorovic, a free signing of Celta last season. Since then the player has had to cope with a lot of injuries, and Irureta seems to have lost all confidence in him.

All combined Djorovic has only played three matches since January, 2002. His last Liga match has been against Betis at the end of last season, but even that one he had to leave because of an injury.

This season Djorovic has not played a single minute, and last Wednesday against Ferrol he was not even included in the squad although many reserve players got their chance. This Copa match seemed a good opportunity for him, as he has overcome his latest injuries. But Irureta decided otherwise.

All this is strange though, as Irureta explicitly had asked Lendoiro for the signing of Djorovic last season, as both men know eachother well from their time at Celta. But his latest injury, sustained against Salamanca this pre-season, could mean the end of his time at Deportivo. Especially if Deportivo will sign Márquez.

DEPORTIVO STILL LOOKING FOR MOLINA REPLACEMENT

Saturday Nov 9 - "TODOS ESTAMOS CONTIGO"(WE'RE ALL BEHIND YOU) were the words the players of Deportivo had printed on their shirts when entering the pitch against Villarreal some weeks ago. These words reflected their feelings towards the goalkeeper who temporarily has to leave professional football to overcome his cancer.

But Deportivo must go on also, and that's why the club keeps looking for a new goalkeeper. Young goalkeeper Dani Mallo still has not gained the confidence of Javier Irureta, and Juanmi is a good one although a bit irregular. Fact is that now Deportivo cannot afford injuries of suspensions of one of them.

Several names have come up the last weeks, including the ones of Saja, Rustu, Oscar Pérez and Reinke. But the last days some new names have come up, and these are of Tomislav Butina and Carlos Roa.

Butina (28 years old) is the current goalkeeper of Dinamo Zagreb. But the Croatian newspaper "Jutarnki List" has written that Deportivo have shown an interest in signing him.

Carlos Roa is well know for his refusal to play on Sunday (because of his religion). But the former Mallorca goalkeeper came back from this decision and now plays for Albacete in the Segunda División.

Deportivo have admitted that several contacts have been made with goalkeepers and clubs, but that most names on this mentioned list are wrong. "Most" though indicates that some names are right, so we can expect a signing of ones of these players the next weeks.

Donato and Cesar are not exactly getting any younger day by day and together with Djorovic's problems Marquez shouldnt find it a problem to get a regular place in the defence.

As for a goalkeeper, why not take Barthez?:crazyboy: I hope Man United sell him together with Blanc cause I am really sick of seeing them destroy a great team.:kader:
