"Roma defender Sergei Gurenko is joining Newcastle on trial with the view to making a £2.5m move from Roma.
An unused sub in both legs of the UEFA Cup last season, against both Newcastle and Leeds, the powerful Gurenko has struggled to make the team at Roma, following his transfer from Lokomototiv Moscow last summer and would welcome the move to the premiership.
An athletic and powerful player he is at home both as a wide midfielder or as a wing-back on either flank. He was voted the Belarus player of the year in 1999 by the country's coaches, journalists and officials."
