View Full Version : Game Question: What's with heat-seeking headers?
I just recently started playing FIFA2k, so I'm rather horrible at it, but I can't help but notice how easily the computer can complete crosses. I just finished playing about 3-4 matches where I didn't score a single goal, yet 12 or so were scored on me from the wings. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this?? The defender AI is absolutely horrible, and the man in the box is always left completely undefended and unchallenged allowing for an easy score.
I hate to point out the rather obvious ways in which the cpu cheats (since so many of you have no trouble with it), but it's rather ridiculous and incredibly irritating. I'd love to know if there's an easy way to avoid this sort of thing. Hell, if there's a hard way, I'll take that too.
Greekfanatic 03-07-2000, 09:25:PM Well,
It might be your formation. What formation do u use?
Zambrotta 03-07-2000, 09:35:PM well, the problem with fifa2k is, that when you wanna win, you can win, but if you want to actually PLAY A GAME OF SOCCER, you shouldn't even bother.
Everytime (once a week), when I play a match with fifa2k, the scripted gameplay drives me nuts. It suck so bad when the ball is in the air it makes me mad. Euro 2000 is a little bitter better from that point of view, but it still fails all in all.
Hope 2001 will rock, gonna have an ATHLON 700 by then :-)
fifa-unleashed 03-07-2000, 09:43:PM try a formation in which the there are more defenders and attackers than midfielders (since you can't string about 3 passes anyway because of the dumb AI, what's the use?) When the cpu is rushing down the wing, mark him well (it's best to use zonal defense). And you can copy what the comp does, rush down the wings, then cross it down the middle, and head it in (or as in me, i prefer the bicycle kick, and is rather good at it, not to brag). I use that tactic, and usually get about 6-10 goals a game in pro level. (That's how unrealistic the game is, I got an average of 10 goals/game with Everton) certainly i hope Fifa 2K1 would be much much better.
I've tried using several different formations, but they all pretty much have the same results. I've managed to curb the onslaught slightly by being a little more agressive out wide, but if a ball manages to get in the air, it's almost 100% guaranteed to go in the net.
For a more concrete example: I've been using Treebeard's rosters, and playing against Aston Villa using either Chelsea or Man U and managed to bring them to penalties with Man U but always get beat using Chelsea (though it is generally close). The problem is that the target of the pass is always wide open in the box, and even if the defender is there, he's always sitting idley watching the shot go in.
You could probably insert some club jokes here, but I wouldn't get them http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
Greekfanatic 04-07-2000, 12:35:AM Try Jumping and heading it out.LOL
Wow, you really know your stuff. I'd have never thought of that.
Greekfanatic 04-07-2000, 02:40:AM Well bro what can I say??
I mean thats what I do,I have noo trouble with it! Maybe it's just not your game....
Various Styles 04-07-2000, 03:48:AM You can have more fun editing players and uniforms than playing a match.., if you want more realistic gameplay try ISS Pro Evolution...
Well thanks for the help, those who offered it. Guess I'll just have to stick with it. Played enough of these games to know that you don't get much out of it if you decide it's just not fair and you don't want to play it anymore. A game's a game.
And if worst comes to worst, I'll just have a drive on over to the EA office in Burnaby and tell 'em what's what! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
xizor 05-07-2000, 11:15:AM the point of the game is to out score the AI. I play the game all the time and yet very little time do i get a clean sheet. If u want to win just keep attacking non-stop.
Voltaire 06-07-2000, 05:41:AM When computer crosses, just hold the "header" key (not the passing header, but the other header), and if your man has good Heading ability (sounds nasty, doesn't it?), then he will usually win out against the aggressor...
Nimreitz 06-07-2000, 06:51:AM Ok, since FIFA 2k is an action you yourself are more or less responsible for the goals. When a cross comes into the area switch to player nearest the ball and hold down "d" and direction to where you want the ball to go. A lot of people complain about this and I never have had a problem, all you have to do is that.
Also the problem you have could be that you are playing on WORLD CLASS difficulty when you are just a beginner, sometimes it can be a little difficult or overwehlming, start on the easy setting and work your way up, and don't go on to the next level until you can win every game handily.
hope I've been of help.
