As expected, Newcastle have signed England U-21 international Carl Cort from Wimbledon. The 6ft 4in striker cost £7m and signed a 5 year deal.

Now its all eyes towards Emile Mpenza, the Newcastle £8m target, who has given the biggest hint yet that he wants to join the team from the Toon when he said: "I'd love to sign."

Mpenza went on to say: "I've always wanted to play in England or Italy.

"Manchester United got everyone excited and I love the style of play in the Premiership. It would be a dream come true to start the coming season in the Premiership."

With Napoli thought to have pulled out of the race to sign the Belgian striker it would seem that the way is open for Bobby Robson to get the striker he so wants. A source in Germany said of Mpenza: "Emile is very much like Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka with his pace,"

"Schalke fans would be devastated by his departure."

One of the problems is that the player has four agents but the club are trying to thrash out a deal with his club Schalke 04.

Well the Smoggies have expressed an interest in the Big Scot, but look for him to either move back to Everton or to a Scottish club.

Graham is an idiot!

We've already got two great strikers, Iversen and Rebrov, and we don't need Cort anyway!
