We say who he pays for! Digitarius 11-12-2002, 11:40:PM I respect Sir Bobby Robson and think that if Bellamy was fit enough he would've travelled to Azerbaijan. But in the end Wales won 2-0 on the day anyway so it didn't really matter. monkee 12-12-2002, 12:51:PM I suppose it's more due to the fact that Sir Bobby's 'he can only play one game per week' excuse is looking a bit dodgy seeing as he's played almost every game for Newcastle since except for suspensions. So his knee miraculously cleared up. I'm not sure whether Sir Bobby was being 100% honest, maybe just a bit worried. The question is would he have refused had Bellamy been playing for England? Or if Wales were playing closer to home that Azerbaijan? It doesn't matter though. Those people sending hate mail are knobs. Wales won without him, and supposing he had played and done his knee in, then what? The clubs do pay his wage, and would have to foot the bill and inconvenience of any injuries picked up on international duty. Digitarius 12-12-2002, 01:05:PM No, nowadays International sides are liable to pay compensation if a player is injured on international duty. monkee 12-12-2002, 01:16:PM Originally posted by Digitarius No, nowadays International sides are liable to pay compensation if a player is injured on international duty. Always thought they should, if they can afford it. I don't think that a small FA, such as Azerbaijan(?), would be able to foot the bill of a player who was on £80K a week if they had such a player. Digitarius 12-12-2002, 01:20:PM Probably not, but small nations are small nations because they don't have such players, in a way. |
