View Full Version : Any footballing tips ? Post it here please . . .
Well, if you think you`re good at football and you can share some of your tips ( dribblings, free-kicks, shooting, training mode, etc ) please post it here.
I, myself got a question :
How do I kick the ball ( dead ball situation ) in order to make it curl and fast. The problem is, I can kick the ball curled but it moves very slow, or fast but it doesn`t curl and sometimes tends to go too high.
I`m a left footer, in which spot of the ball should I kick ? And how is with my body position ? How far should the distance between me and the ball before kicking ?
And I also have a tip for juggling. Juggling is an act where you control the ball in the air with your bodyparts ( except hands ) without making it falls to the ground. It doesn`t used often in a match, but it helps you to train your body coordination, reflexes, and feeling with the ball. For a start, you should tie a rope to the ball, and the other end to your wrist, the rope should have a length at about 150 cm`s, then start controlling the ball, make sure you don`t make the rope to stretch, the rope is only a helping tool, so when you lost control of the ball, it won`t go everywhere, once you got the feeling, try to do it without the rope. Keep practicing, and also try with different parts of the body.

Don't suck.
That is all.
night 21-12-2002, 10:04:PM my tip:
Kick the ball with ur foot
calve11 21-12-2002, 11:45:PM Well if you play at a pretty good level, and the GK sets up a wall. Try to chip it into the opposite corner of where the Keeper is standing. I've scored quite a couple goals like this... Placement over power.... Thats the best tip!
precise 22-12-2002, 03:07:AM I have been told that you have to make sure that your non-kicking foot must be next to the ball in order to strike it properly.
Also I have read, using your side-foot is an effective way of curling the ball from a deadball situation.

To make it curl, don't kick it at all. Instead, take it to the local hairdressers and ask for a perm.
I`m a left footer
Nothing to be ashamed of...some of my best friend are gay, or "left footers", as you put it.
And how is with my body position ?
You should be erect.

Yeah thats what ive found out aswell, BUT its always windy here, so often if i kick it at the goalie it will curve very awkwardly and they cant stop it. Probly %80 percent of all goalies i have ever played against have been short and not able to touch the top bar :D

I only do that to those who reply with stupid and harsh words. You`re not the one I`m pointing at, well if you feel annoyed, I`m very sorry, I promise next time I won`t do it anymore . . . ( except if that guy gone too far like that Ronaldo_11 )

Placement over power.... Thats the best tip!
But i guess that all depends on the person.
My stlye is Power over placement. (I'm not saying i just go in on the ball and kick the s*** out of it, i aim it but i concentrate more on putting power behind my shots.
I do this cuz i feel that even if the goalie can get to it it would be going too fast for him to clear it like he would like, leaving the possibility for a put back.
So my tip is find out what you're good at, accuracy or power.
And practice like hell on one, or both if u think u can.
Gerrard 17 25-12-2002, 04:30:AM here's my team's page (if i make the team that is  ), there are tips on how to get faster, some skill moves, etc.

Swerve 26-12-2002, 08:10:AM For your free kicks, practice is generally the best policy, because there are a couple ways to hit them. I suggest that you watch players known for their free kick ability (i.e.- Beckham, Veron, Zidane and especially Rivaldo as you are both left footed-- but forget about watching R.Carlos as he tends to just hit the ball as hard as he can and is actually very poor in terms of the percentage of free kicks he scores from). For me, this is my technique (it still needs alot of work to be more consistent, but I find when I do hit it properly the results are usually pretty good)
1. For a left footer, make sure the ball is in a place that you can actually score from, i.e.-you will probably not score as a lefty from farther left of the goal than the an imagineary line extending from the left post (if u are facing the goal).
2. Decide which run up to the ball is best for you. Some people are strong enough to take a short run up (Henry) and some people take longer run ups. I prefer a longer run up (around 5 steps) and stand slightly off to the left of the ball so that I can "wrap" my foot around it (I am right footed).
3. As for actually hitting the ball, as you approach it, u need to be sure that your run up allows you to end up with your plant foot (your right foot) evenly beside the ball. But, you need to have it far enough away so that you can hit the ball with the INSIDE of your foot. Now by inside, I mean the region of your foot where your big toe connects to the rest of your foot. This makes the ball bend when you hit it. Your follow through should have the foot that you hit the ball with end up across your body. ***Now this is the hard part as at first you will either get swerve or power , but seldom both, but this is where the practice part comes in.
4. Depending on where you want the ball, how much you can actually swerve the ball and where the keeper is will depend on where you aim. I aim for slightly wide of the goal as the swerve will tend to bring it back in to a corner (if I strike it properly). Also where the ball is placed will have an effect, if the ball is towards the middle of the goal you can aim for either side of the keeper.
5. Keep your eye on the ball. Most people (including myself) have a bad habit of looking up right before they hit it to see if they hit it well. This will almost always cause you to miss hit it and then be laughed at by your teammates and supporters:)
6. Hit the ball, run to the corner flag and celebrate!
***Things you must remember!!!!!!!
-Watch the ball, very very important.
-lock your ankle when you hit it. this will allow for more power and will keep you from injurying your ankle.
-DO NOT LEAN BACK. this will cause the ball to fly into the last row. try to lean slightly over the ball.
-Follow through, this might be the most important as it determines largely the amount of swerve you get on the ball.
Don't worry about making the shot "dip" as this is extremely difficult and you will find that the ball will dip enough if hit with the proper amount of strength.
Oh, and as for juggling:
-always watch the ball
-lock your ankle
-hit the ball with the largest part of the top of your foot, not your toes (at first, pointing your toes up and hitting the ball will bring it back to you, but work on that later.)
-Hit through the middle of the ball, anything else will make it spin away or fall to the side.
-Remember you don't have to hit it hard.
-Practice (you can work on your head, shoulders and heels after you master using your feet and thighs)
Hope this helps.
