View Full Version : Milner Betters Rooney Again

As if to prove it wasnt a fluke, one day before being the same age as Wayne Rooney when he scored against Arsenal, James Milner has scored for Leeds again!

This time though the goal was all flair. He recieved the ball on the top of the box, evaded two defenders, and slotted the ball far to De Goey's Left to give Leeds a 2-0 half time lead against Chelsea.

damnit clicked wrong with and posted a new thread.

wheres cudicini. I dont wanna give this guy too much credit. Look at Anelka these days, he use to be incredible at a young age.

No1 will ever show me a better 17 year old striker than raul.

Giggs also comes to my mind in terms of age, but hes not a striker.

Yeah, but this was a couple of days ago, when Milner originally broke the record.

Of course it is hard to give someone this yong too much credit, he has so much to prove.

But considering that the likes of Kewell, Giggs, Owen etc who all were great from young ages, are people who you'd think may hold this record but dont...It means that a big future is probably ahead for Milner AND Rooney.

As for Anelka, he is still a talented player. He is a bit like Barthez in that its the mental side of things he has wrong.

Milner really looked good for the ~70mins he was on the pitch against Chelsea, and was probably Leeds most dangerous player.

Great to see Viduka is also back in some kind of form. Hopfully soon, he and Fowler will be able to start upfront together, and we will be able to play Kewell AND Smith on the right and left flanks.

Let's not praise Milner into heaven yet OK? I'm anooyed anyway with these comparing battles between Rooney and Milner. They're both good players at their age. Give them time to develop into really great players.

sure Milner scored a great goal !
but having seen the action from both Leeds and Everton from yesterday ....
has to be said that the real kid wonder is still Rooney ! there was only him playing for Everton it seemes like. He was everywhere and his skill were immacuulate. He strong and can knock anyone out of the way. Quite a few pros could learn a lot from him.

It is good to see young english strikers coming though[Carlton Cole, Wayne Rooneyand now James Milner] pressure is going to be on Owen and co in a few years and Milner has bettered Rooney. But Milner must be going mad as he said terry venables was a great bloke! Shocking!

Yeah, i dont think they should compare the two, they are both good players, and good prospects. I was just pointing out that Rooney is getting all this attention and Milner is getting very little, when really he broke Rooney's record, AND as a midfielder!

Anyway they are both great players, and both starred for their teams. Milner was great the whole match for Leeds though, and along with Woodgate was the best on the pitch I feel.

Milner isnt actually a striker though.
He is more a Right Winger, or attacking midfielder.
He can move upfront, but is usually a mid ;)

Dont copy what Ron Atkinson says.

Milner doesnt have the same skill as Rooney, but hes definetely a hot prospect for the future. Is he left or right footed? I think he used his right foot for that goal against Chelsea.

he is a right footer, and is usually a right winger.
When he came on, I guessed Smith would move to striker, and Milner to RW. But instead, he played LW, and Leeds played 4-5-1.

But he is usually right sided player, and is stonger on the right.

Scott Parker is another english youngster to watch, he plays centre midfield for Charlton, just returned from injury and is playing very well, but doesn't seem to get noticed:( :o

yeap !
he scored that great solo goal at Leeds that gave Charlton the win.
Been playing very well indeed, but I didn't know he was that young.

There's also Matt Dawson, Nottingham Forest defender who seems to be the next best thing for England.

In my opinion, I still think pound for pound, Rooney is the better player out of the two.

But in truth, I wouldn't like to compare the two players, considering that their style is quite different. Rooney has got great control of the ball and also great strength, something that not a lot of young players seem to have, while Milner has shown that he has good technique and plenty of confidence (like Rooney). Rooney might not have scored for Everton against Bolton, but he has done almost everything else. For about an hour he ran the show all by himself at Goodison Park, and everybody else were just there either to block his shots and supply him with a pass to run round Ivan Campo.

Rooney is getting so much attention mainly because of his stunning goal against Arsenal. When Milner scored his first goal it was against Sunderland, and it was from close range so it didn't get much hype. Rooney's was a terrific curling shot from outside the area, beating Seaman, and beating Arsenal in the final minute of the game. Arsenal, until then, hasn't lost an away game for more than a year, and that defeat checked the Champions run of form.

There's also Matt Dawson, Nottingham Forest defender who seems to be the next best thing for England.

Yes, he was called up by Sven in the get together recently. A very talented defender, I've been told by a Forest fan.

Dont forget Sheff Utds star players Michael Tonge, Phil Jagielka and Michael Brown

I've heard a lot about these players and I look forward to seeing them play against top opposition week in week out. If Sheffield United do not promote this season they might find it quite hard to keep hold of all three.

All those other players mentioned are great players, but as far as age goes, they arent close to Milner Or Rooney.

The two do play quite different though, Milner seems a little more Agile, but both are really skillful, and whilst both are really strong Rooney is the bigger built and therefore stronger of the two. BUT the difference really comes, because one is a striker, one an attacking midfielder. I really wish everyone would stop trying to compare, and just say they're bot two young great talents, as good as England have had for a while.

Rooney is more famous, because his first goal was better, he is a striker adn they usually get a little more attn, he is a little older, and has had a little more game time, and he was the first of the two to really burst onto the seen.

Milners 2nd goal though, was as good as any goal ive seen for a fair while. As the commentator said, "he came onto replace Kewell, and has scored a goal that Harry himself would be proud of.."

As for really young guys coming thru, keep an eye out for another Leeds academy player, Aaron Lennon. He's a striker, is nearly a year younger then Milner I think, and recently out classed him in a match at Leeds. It wasnt first team..but he's still looking a great prospect for maybe next season.

Cheers

Ignore that akha"whateva" guy ShearerM4, he is that Ronaldo_11 registering back. You can tell that from his stupid question, and he was very racist with me ( don`t know why . . . ). You don`t want wasting time to respond him.

I know Reyes for Sevilla.

You two Spaniards (or La Liga fans) have to understand that most of the people on these forums are English and therefore will only know young English talent.

For example, Ajax has more young talent at their club than the whole of England.

I don't want to sound rude, but didn't you start this thread, calling it Milner Betters Rooney Again?

Perhaps, but you can't really blame the English talking about their own talent. Ajax might have plenty of great young players, but none of them can qualify to play for England (mainly because they're not English).

Rooney has again put in a very good display, IMO, against Bolton for Everton. He showed that he has vision together with great control and strength by putting through Steve Watson for his goal.

Yeah, but that was just stating a fact. Milner broke Rooney's record, then came out and bettered it again. I wasnt directly comparing them, just knew that so many people knew of Rooney, and so this would attract more attn to the article.

As for lots of ppl coming from England, a fair few also come from nations where the only real soccer coverage we get is the EPL...
