View Full Version : How bad do you aussies think we are at cricket? FRED is BACK 31-12-2002, 02:00:AM How bad do you think the English are at cricket Alex 01-01-2003, 08:49:AM Well..really I dont think they are terrible. Too many Aussies are looking at the Ashes, and recent performances as "how bad are england" Really, Englands record of late isnt that bad (other then this tour), and they have been quite injury plagued. The injuries wouldnt have changed the result of any tests, but it may have given them some wins in the tour matches (England havent won a match against ANY australiam based team, including states, Chairmans XI's and Prime Ministers XI's) However, against Sri Lanka, England have still dominated, so Ive been looking at recent results as three things: 1) The Strength of Australian Cricket at present 2) The injuries etc the English team has 3) The psychological Advantage that Australia has over England. All this aside, I think that only oen Englishmen could even make an Australian A team, and thats Michael Vaughan. Basically though that could be said about most international teams at the moment though. Anyway, thats my thoughts on English cricket atm, better then most aussies would think id say, but then again most aussies often dont seem to take note of anything but current results. They also seem to disregard injuries etc to teams other then themself ;) Cheers sKIp_E Jono82 03-01-2003, 01:59:AM I don't think... I KNOW England are bad at Cricket... remember what ASHES really stands for Another Sad Horrific English Summer :D (H) England are good for one thing and one thing only... making up sports for Australia to crush them at... wait til February... Football (Soccer) will be there as well in the 5-0 column! :crazyboy: ;) Alex 03-01-2003, 07:51:AM Originally posted by Jono82 I don't think... Cheers sKIp_E Rob 03-01-2003, 01:43:PM England are Match For Anyone in the World Apart from the Australians. Australia was in a similiar postion or maybe worse then what England is now. Englands problem is the Domestic League, like our NSL in Soccer. It Is Where You Breed Your Players. You Need 10 or 8 Citybased Teams With Highclass Competive Cricket. This English Summer is going to be Interesting when we see England vs South Africa, Arguably the 2nd Best Side in the World. But If They Beat Pakistan Will Be Ranked Number One in the World. They may Deserve it, or they may not. They Beat India in India But Where Trounched 5-1 Over 3 Games in Australia and South Africa. So What am I Saying? England Aren't Bad Its a Question of how good are Australia? JTNY 05-01-2003, 01:25:PM England........ seem to play well against other nations....... The recent matches prior to the Ashes against the subcontinental teams, England seemed well. This Ashes, England have been injury ravaged. The players are there........ the pace bowlers need line and length, Harmison looks real good, just need good fuller/yorker delivery. Caddick and Hoggard especially get some nice shape on the ball. Dawson has a terrible action, and I haven't seen Giles bowl that much. The batting, Trescothick is good he just need to capitalise upon start of 20-30. Vaughan is excellent. Butcher and Hussain can keep the middle order together on their day. Key and Crawley......... I think they need to be changed. Stewart has had a well distinguished career, but England need to look for replacements, I have only seen Foster in one test. Craig White has shown he bowls well, with good line and length, and has played good innings. Flintoff is lively. England have a lot to work with, and on paper could go a long way. They just need a GOOD captain, and learn to have the right mental attributes. Really its a bit silly that Australia are overtaken by South Africa, when we havent really lost any games, and are performing better then them. It comes back to the matches against NZ. We were by far the better team in the first two tests, but they were drawn becos of rain. We didnt play as well in the last, but we seemed to be rushing, as if anticipating rain again..Its dissappoiting that becos of 3 rain effected tests that ended in draws, South Africa will over take us as number 1 team, when IMO Australia are as good now as they have been since this run began. Cheers sKIp_E Digitarius 06-01-2003, 01:46:AM England are not amazing, but not as awful as a lot of English press make the public belive. England lost 4 straight tests to Australia with an embarassing margin. But now that Australia has a few injury problems, the fifth test is much closer. You can say that Australia would have lost the incentive to win after they have wrapped up the series, but with a rare whitewash there for the taking, I don't think so. Australia are better than England in every single department. Batting, bowling, fielding, they are better, there's no doubt. But then they're probably better than every single side in the world at the moment. Their batting lineup is frightening and when as a captain you have Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, you are already half-way there. England still have a lot to improve on, but are not half as awful as everybody make out. Cheers sKIp_E South Africa's Away Record is Far Supieror to Australia's on the Sub Contient, but I Do Feel Australia are Better than South Africa. It Doesnt take an Einstien to realize that Australia Would Beat South Africa 9 out of 10 times in a Test Series. South Africa but have also played, againist more minow sides, like Bangaladesh and Zimbabwe, which Australia [b]REFUS[E/b] to play, until there standards improve. Australia do not have to give back the ICC Trohpy but... If We, Win the Upcoming Series againist the West Indies, we go back up on top. Yeah, well really the superior record only comes against India, because we have still beaten Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the sub-continent, so our last series against them is registered as a win. As for Zimbabwe, we havent played a series against them, only one off tests, and we've got plans for a Bangladesh series in 2004's winter I think, in Australia at Cairns and Darwin or something.. hmm Cheers sKIp_E JTNY 06-01-2003, 03:42:AM Shaun Pollock claimed South Africa deserved to be Test Champions. Ummmmm.......... how bout 5-1!!!!! I believe he said that as part of the psychological game preceeding the WC. He does not want to admit the obvious inferiority to the Aussies. :) Rob 06-01-2003, 10:51:AM Shaun Pollock is Using the ICC Test Championship as a blanket from Reality. Australia are far better :) Alex 06-01-2003, 02:21:PM Yeah, Tony Greig himself said it was ridiculous, and Hussain implied that in his speech in the ashes presentation. Anyway...we'll get it back after the Winidies tests ;) Cheers sKIp_E FRED is BACK 06-01-2003, 04:30:PM England are now the first touring team to beat australia in australia for 4 years. Losing Mcgraph and warne is no excuse england have just about everyone in our team. Except man of the match and man of the seris michel vaungh Sir Calumn 07-01-2003, 12:29:AM I think we are a good team, one of the best in the world, but Australia are just out of this world!!! They are close to unbeatable. It's great to watch - unless it's England being destroyed............ again :(. We have some magnificant players (Vaughn (sp??), Caddick, Hoddard etc.) as do most teams but Australia have 15 magnificant players!!!! Zarkov Rob 07-01-2003, 12:51:AM Originally posted by ChelseaFan88 I think we are a good team, one of the best in the world, but Australia are just out of this world!!!
