View Full Version : AAARGH! Why is EA so DAMN annoying? Ignoring fans and prepared statements...

Hi everyone,

I know that there are a number of people, particularly associated with running the various Fifa sites, who think that EA can do no wrong, but I for one am sick to death of their (EA's) attitude.

For instace, the "information" that they have been slowly leaking out over the Internet. It is blindingly obvious that there is a PR statement that has been prepared for Fifa 2000, and every time they are asked questions they simply parrot back what's written on their press release. For instance, look at the various questions which say "What do you think is the best part of Fifa 2000?" or "Why will 2000 be better that 99?", and the answer is ALWAYS EXACTLY THE SAME, almost word for word, some rubbish about player sheilding and harder hitting moves, with more player animations to capture the passion, etc. etc.

EA hasn't released much new info for ages, we knew all that ages ago, and I have come to the conclusion that they simply do not care at all about their fans.

For example, how many times have there been complaints about the lack of long scoring shots in Fifa 99? Or the size of the pitch relative to the players? Or the Goalie AI? Yet EA remains completely silent about these issues. Likewise the so called "relegation and promotion", which, despite the dressing up of the truth by EA employees is little more than "game over" if you are relegated from the top division. The only promotion will be gaining entry to Euro cups and the like... woo, hoo.

So, it sounds like EA is basically ignoring their fans once again and going for a lightly tweaked version of the previous FIFA game. That's why they always ignore certain questions, and why they heavily promote the few minor gameplay changes that are being made every chance they get. Obviously they feel that the game is popular enough that they don't need to make it much better, despite fans requests?

I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but just consider how big a company EA is and how little FIFA 99 differed from WC98.

Some real changes that I might suggest:

-REAL PLAYER FACES, as seen in the excellent NHL series for some years now (I mean, REAL, photographically).

-ACTUAL BALL PHYSICS, come on, it's not that damn hard. Ever notice that in Fifa 99, the ball could only go in certain places, it never seemed at all random, there were never funny bounces, and it always curved exactly the same way through the air. Certain shots always score in certain positions, otherwise the goalie ALWAYS saves perfectly.

-A POWER BAR as seen in FAPLS... this would just rule.

These would be some real changes, and I might actually respect EA if they occur... but nooo, all we get is 'new sheilding moves' and 'player animations' that aren't even during the course of play. Bastards.

I must say that I agree you, but I also know this attitude is a commercial tactic, because they play with people ansious to know more about the game, I mean now adays, thanx to Internet, we know everything at the moment it happens, this causes the lost of any interest, but if we want to know, and we canīt really know, it makes us fell ansious and desire for that thing.

Well said Adrift.

Player shielding? Who asked for player shielding? We ask for a slower game speed. Do we get it No. And EA says it got feedback that people like the fast game speed of 99.

We ask for a bigger pitch. Do we get it. No.

We ask for linesmen and real crowds. Do we get it. No.

Real team uniforms. No.

Real player atributes. No. Once again Ronaldo will have a 15 tackling ability.

Club logos. No.

Real ball physics. No.

Real relegation and promotion. No

Realistic long range scoring. No

Realistic goal keeper. No

But we did get shielding. Yahoo!!! I wonder if this shielding turns out to be like the player height gimmick in 99.

Did EA ever said that they will not improve on long range scoring?!?!?
But as a fan who has every FIFA series game since 94, i got to tell you that I m getting more and more disappointed with the way EA acts towards its fans. And those polls that they conduct....... they just do them to look good but then they keep doing what they want and dont listen for their fans at all. It starts with leagues nonsense and goes on with the game play. And in a way i understand that it might be harder to make the game look real, but make more leagues is not hard at all!!!

Yeah, I must say I'm beginning to get p**sed off with EA's indifferent attitude, as one of the people who snapped up a new innovative football game in 1994 and have played subsequent versions of that game on all systems, we seem to just be a statistic and our opinion as FIFA Fans isn't recognised, we want EA to actually ask us what we want, and together we can make the FIFA game that we all deserve, preferably on ALL Consoles.
Obviously we care enough to take time to voice our opinions, so surely EA who claim to "bring a World of Football to the fans"

Lets hope we finally make em listen to us.

I'm still a FIFA fan, but I believe that we have such a pool of ideas in these forums that FIFA 2001 SHOULD BE THE GAME WE ALL WANT. If EA just took a moment to read this.
I appreciate that EA have a massive workload etc. But surely it would only help FIFA'S sales and reputation as the finest football game known to civilisation.

Cheers,
VIVA FIFA2000 (a step in the right direction)

Cheers,

Sadly, sometimes I think that way too.
I dun think that the new player-shielding thing is gonna work wonders for the game,cos'...it's just too minor!
How I wish EA would post a message in this forum, telling us about the major changes in the game that were requested by us(e.g.larger fields, more long-range scoring, much slower game speed),but say, isn't that possible?
Ric,u there? Can you get the guys from EA over to discuss the changes with us?

P.S.Check out my The GREAT COMPILED FiFA2000 SUGGESTION DICTIONARY!! topic,it's booming with great and sensible ideas.

Hey, guys, look into my topic "Will somebody answer our questions please?"
Lets put all the answers and info we have about the game in one place. Then we will be able to see what we really know about the game and how EA is listening to its fans and cares about them.

I would be willing to set up a web site to petition for FIFA 2001, if anyone would be interested. Kewell (whatever your real name is - are you an Aussie by any chance?), you seem to have some good ideas, if you are interested that would be cool.

I work for a web design company, so it would be no problem for me to put something together, I can get it hosted too.

Anyone think this is a good idea? Fifa is a great game and I am grateful to EA for that, but they could make it that much greater.

Greglato- thanks for your thoughts. That is exactly what I meant.

that picture looks butt ugly, but I can understand, they want the game to be playable on a very lowend pc thats why they cant make the grafix much better, what I dont understand is why dont they change the game play.

Guys, how many times have we requested a slow down in the gamespeed???!!! This was probably the Number one request that we have been making, yet this is what EA recently said
"Speed in fifa 2000 is more similar to 99 because the tons of user feedback we got suggested that this was more desirable, which was a relief because we agree! In any case the overall speed of the game remains user-customizable, as it was in 99."

What the hell is this, they do practically the opposite of what we request! Sure, they say it will be user-customizable like in 99, but we all know how lame that was. We could hardly change it and not nearly enough to be realistic. That was the last straw for me, unless the reviews of fifa 2000 I read on this board say it is much better, I will not be buying it!
International Superstar Soccer 2000 for me!

Hello to all,

I also agree with some of fellas out here that the game speed should be slowed down.I didn't like FIFA 99's gameplay cos of its fast speed. Now I had known that FIFA 2000's speed isn't gonna to change that much.....I'm now gonna worry a bit silghtly.

Frankly how I wished that FIFA 99 and FIFA 2000 can be like FIFA 98's.Among all versions,FIFA 98's is the best. Its gameplay, speed and all the others is absolutlely perfect and almost realistic.I had bought the FIFA series since 97 and I still maintain FIFA 98 remains the No 1 in my heart.

If ONLY EA can make more versions of FIFA from the basis of FIFA 98's gameplay, then I think we as FIFA fans needn't worry that much and complain anymore........

I think I'm also beginning to be pissed off about EA too....I was so frustrated about playing FIFA 99 cos of its gamespeed juz now.And now they don't want to change,I think I must say to the hell with EA!!!!EA stands for Erractic A******.

And also I wonder whether does EA really understand the passion of soccer & soccer lovers themselves OR are they juz programmers who only know who to program and that's all??

This is a major question for EA.But I believed EA are the latter.

Look, Aken99, noone is looking foward to Fifa 2000 more than I, I am sure it will be a great game. My complaint is simply that EA could make it SO much greater if they would just listen to their market. Nothing will be wrong with Fifa 2000, but there could be so much more right about it.

I will admit that before I've played it I probably shouldn't be too critical of some aspects of the game... well, maybe EA will surprise me.

HELLO!!!???
EVERYBODY WAS BUZZING ABOUT THIS GAME AND NOW YOU CANNOT WAIT UNTIL 2001???
Sometimes human behaviour is odd but this is something else!
Some people are never happy.
Nobody even has a finished product yet!

Hmmm, have you read any of the previews these last couple of days? One thing I read was that the ball control was a lot better. I think that IS a gameplay improvement. But yes, I know a lot of things aren't the way we want it. But think of it as Mr EA: if he makes a perfect product (fantastic gameplay, features and looks) it wouldn't run on a lot of computers which would bring down the profits. And if it's the perfect product, then a lot of people will buy it. But what then? It can't be improved. No more REAL new FIFA games! I know that would be an extreme situation, but I think it does work that way. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif

You're right! Those four initial screenshots did look way better than the current ones...

As for gameplay improvements meaning that the game won't run on most systems, that is completely wrong, the graphics are what eats about 80% of the system power, so improved physics and so on is unlikely to cause too much trouble.

I agree, EA has a brilliant marketing strategy, even though I don't like it. They made FIFA 97, and it sold a lot. EA then said, "wow, people really like soccer, imagine if we could make something revolutionary with a new engine and the new 3D graphics, then we would strike gold." SO then came FIFA 98, which was brilliant, and revolutionary, and it was a huge best-seller worldwide. Then EA said "wow, now people think we make the best soccer games, and the world cup craze is near, so why don't we make a World Cup Only game?" So came WC 98. "Then EA said, well, we don't have enough time to make a totally new product in 5 months, but who cares, everyone knows we make the best soccer game so we speed up gameplay and add a few more teams and people will buy it." So EA made FIFA 99, and because they never released the demo before the game was acutally released, people rushed out and bought it on the first day and millions came flowing in and EA was happy. Now people started complaining of the game speed and how since FIFA 98 there weren't too many improvements so EA said they now had a whole year to make a brand new game and got our hopes up. Then in April/May, they released the first 4 screenshots of the game which looked nothing like today's final product. They used some super-realistic grass texture which is now gone and listed a bunch of feature boasting gameplay. And comes judgement day, FIFA 2000 has gone gold and EA are hoping to get our money for something not so new, or at least something which disregards ALL of OUR REQUESTS AND WISHES which we posted for over a YEAR!!!! A YEAR!!!

Do we buy or do we not? Not unless I like the demo.

By the way, as if everyone won't end up buying the game anyway. Criticisms or not, it will still rock!
