Drinky UKSN 24-08-2000, 10:01:PM I agree (mostly). Far too old and far too predictable, its based mainly on which players are big names. Keegan hasn't got the guts to bite the bullet and bring in young players, and he should at least be straight with us all. In short, he has bottled it for short term ease and long term pain. Spineless is the word.
I've got nothing against Heskey - powerful, fast player with a shot like a bullet - if he spent more time playing and less time falling over (which is something he will grow out of), he could become a really great player to counteract the lithe, nimble Owen.
WaltonSw 24-08-2000, 10:24:PM England need to steady the ship at present. They need a result against France to restore confidence. Keegan is right to keep faith in old heads, but should blend in youth gradually. If Keegan fields an inexperienced youthful team they will get trounced. Dyer and Gerrard should be given a start though, Cole should be given an extended run in the team and play to his strengths. I would also like to see Phillips given 5 or six full games. What is more important, is that England ditch the predictable long ball rubbish that was on offer during Euro 2000.
a_shearer 24-08-2000, 10:39:PM BEST POSSIBLE OPTION!
(3-5-2)
Nigel Martyn (Leeds)
Tony Adams (Arsenal) (c)
Sol Campbell (Spurs)
Rio Ferdinand (W Ham)
Steve Gerrard (L'pool)
Kieron Dyer (N'castle)
Nick Barmby (L'pool)
David Beckham (Man U)
Paul Scholes (Man U)
Michael Owen (L'pool)
Kevin Phillips (S'land)
Neutral 24-08-2000, 10:42:PM I'm not sure why everyone sh!ts on Emile Heskey - he's a good young player and he's getting better all the time.
He's big, strong and very very fast - and he creates space up front for the other attackers - why else could Tony Cottee play so well last year at the age of 35?

Andy cole should get his chance along with Phillips and Heskey..forget about Owen for now cause he's tooo predictable and time is showing us that apart from pace..the guy has nothing!!
Keegan:
imagine if seaman, adams, ince, keown, southgate had retired...and build ur team!
i'll luv it if he loses ;D
shez
simonius_13 25-08-2000, 02:55:AM Heskey had an awful Euro 2000! Phillips, Fowler and Owen are better bets!!!
Keegan needs to add Thatcher, Perry, Dyer, Woodgate, Bowyer and o yeah, ANDERTON!
Did you see his brilliant play in the first Tottenham matches this year?
ANDERTON IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Russian Rocket 25-08-2000, 06:18:AM simonius_13,
You see, Anderton, Thatcher, Campbel and Perry are 4 players from a team that ended 6th-9th last year in the Premiership. Why would the manager of England add 4 players to his nat. team from a club that ended pretty much in the middle of English Premiership? However those players play, it looks like as if it wasn't enough to keep their team in class of the best in at least Premiership.
And I do not understand many of you -- Woodgate, Bowyer, Dyer, Heskey, Owen, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Lampard, Barry, P. Neville, a few of fans requested Morris, Harley, Terry, Young, Etherington, Clemence, Right.
That is a lot of youngsters, and maybe it is one of the reasons why England doesn't look great in the last matches -- players have not enough experience.
Drinky UKSN 25-08-2000, 10:49:AM Russian Rocket's attitude is one of the reasons why England don't do so well. If the player is good enough, who cares about the company he keeps at his club? I can understand why Division 1 and 2 players shouldn't be picked, but players from a mid-table Premiership side not playing? Get real. Want a good example? Watch the Liverpool-Bradford and Bradford-Chelsea games and check out Matt Clarke - very impressive indeed. I _think_ he qualifies for England, in which case bring him in - what harm can it do getting rid of some of the older deadwood like Seaman?
Daniel 25-08-2000, 11:58:AM I think this will be a close contest, England have a very good team, France will not thrash this team.
Russian Rocket 25-08-2000, 12:17:PM Drinky, think about it -- one player from low team is ok, but 4 players from a middle-premiership team? All I say is that 4 players from one team that ended 6th-10th in Premiership are obviously not good enough for nat. team just because their team does not play that great. Of course, there might be millions of other reasons why a club plays poorly (players' misunderstaning, or bad coach), but Spurs have a team that did not make a lot of changing in the past 2-3 years and they've got a good manager. What is the reason of their "not-ideal" performance? The same reason other middle Prermiership teams have; players not good enough for certain successess.
Emerson 26-08-2000, 08:11:AM what if the 7 other players that always played with those 4 didn't have a good season?
