I got "The Bends" and "Pablo Honey" which are great, but I have to admit, I really hate all the stuff they put out after those two albums :( ...especially that god awful 'Paranoid Android' song!

I quite like them. Creep rocks! But their newer stuff is groundbraking. Those are the true bands, bands who evolve and break musical boundries. If you have bands/musiscians like that, then who needs Ja Rule, Nelly, Aguilera, Spears and the rest of that rubbish?

Me! I'd much rather look at Christina and Britney than at that bald Radiohead guy. And I'd certainly rather take fashion tips from Nelly than from Radiohead (not that I do).

Seems that you rather go for image then true musical quality. I was talking music mate, I'd rather see Britney Spears then Coldplay's Chris Martin, but when you're 70 yrs old, rimpled and maybe impotent so there's no point in dissin' the girls and it's just about the music, I'd much rather listen to Radiohead, Nirvana, Rolling Stones, U2, Coldplay and other musical geniuses.

you can't possibly put Coldplay in the same bracket as the other bands u mentioned .....:kader:

I love the Bends and OK Computer, although I don't think OK Computer should be in top 10 albums of all time charts as it has a tendancy to be, in the UK anyway but then some UK music mags are full of their own self-importance. It is definately one of the best albums of the 90s though.

Radiohead are fantastic. :rockman:

Coldplay are just starting, but they do sound good. Can I just say though that while I like Travis and Coldplay, their songs are very samey. But it's weird, it's like I love their songs and really like their albums, but by the time it comes to the last song on their albums I've lost interest because it's all the same.

Travis and Coldplay:

Both are very influenced by Radiohead, but Travis make better albums than Coldlpay, although "A rush of blood to the head" is a giant leap from their first record. "The Man Who" is a fantastic album, all of its songs could easily be hits and make sense as a whole.

Radiohead:

They did a small tour, about 6 months ago, in Portugal and Spain (they didn't play for some time) and I went to see one of the Porto shows. I remember posting here my experience on that gig but nobody cared that much. I thought people didn't know who they were. :|

All Radiohead albums are simply great. Each one is a step ahead from the previous, although I admit that they lost me on "Kid A" and "Amnesic", but even these 2 are good records. "The Bends" and "OK Computer" have to go down in history has 2 of the best records ever made. I don't know which I like best, probably OK C, because it was groundbreaking at the time.

About the concert, it lived to my expectations, turned into more of a happening, if you know what I mean. They played like 12 songs off their soon-to-be new record. If you liked "The Bends" and "OK Computer", GO GET IT as soon as it comes out!!! They brought the guitars back, but it's still a step ahead from everything they've done.
Finally, if you are a R. fan, you know that they don't play "Creep" live since the tour for "The Bends". The show I saw was so cool, that, on the last of 4 encores, they came on stage and... you know what they played next. (H) The house went down! A great end to the show.

Kid A is VERY weird though ... yet fun to listen to at the end of a party or when you feel lonely.
Ok Computer rules however with obviously Karma Police.

Great to see so many big fans.

How can you not like Paranoid Android? That song is f-ing brilliant. I love the whole second (slow) part:p .

Karma Police and... well all of their songs are so creative and beautiful.

I think all of the albums are great, very different, but great (largely because of that).

Going to go listen to OK Computer for the rest of my break

Anyone see them play Paranoid Android on Jools Holland? It was unbelievable.

I haven't seen them live. I missed them by a month. My mates were getting the tickets because they were playing near where I grew up in October 1997. Unfortunately I was starting uni in September and it would've been too far to travel. Same thing happened to me with Pearl Jam, only I was at Uni on that tour and missed them by a month again, it was in the middle of my f-ing exams, gutting. :)

... an I was going to go and see Nirvana in April of 1994, but the show was postponed after Kurts coma in Rome. Unfortunately he passed away a few days before the concert would have been anyway. ;(

I know Coldplay is influenced by Radiohead and some songs are simple and really suck. But there's some other songs that I do like and I like Chris Martin's voice. Obviously they haven't reached the "genius" status (sorry for posting that one) but I just like some songs. A rush of blood to the head is a massive progression after Parachutes. Songs I like from their new album are "In My Place", "The Scientist", "Clocks" and "Green Eyes".

Yeah Radiohead are fantastic, a 'thinking mans band' I guess, they will forever be associated with the 24th and 25th years of my life. I have seen them live, and you are right Hugo, it was more of a happening. Yes a couple of their albums are masterpeices, and have to some extent been recognised as such, but I think that they still will not get the acclaim they deserve for quite some time.

What I think makes them great is that they are challenging, both lyrically and musically. You just don't know what to expect for them, and you have to really work with them when the new album comes out. They don't give a damn about pandering to some 'fan base', or just dishing out radio pap. That puts them in the same bracket as Nirvana.

And Thom Yorkes voice...talk about made for the music.

My favorite memory: I used to live in this house that was about halfway up one of the volcanic cones in my city, with this drunk from England. We would turn the stereo right up, sit outside with a bottle looking over the city and play OK computer so it would drift over the mountain.

'Please can you stop the noise I'm trying to get some rest....'

I have. He called it an Opereta, if I remember. What can I say? It blew me away. That moment goes right up there, to when I heard "Alive" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the 1st time!
Unfortunately, I didn't tape it, but I do have their previous performance on that show! They did "The Bends", "High and Dry" and another song, that my bro accidently overrun by recording some sh!t . :kader:

I rehearsed with my band this past weekend, after a 1,5 years of absence. To warm up, we always play a couple covers. We played an acoustic set, and one of the songs we did was "Lucky", from "OK Computer". May I, immodestly, say it was a good moment.

Talking about the Jools Holland prog, another highlight was James playing "Getting Away With It (All Messed Up)". I'm still looking for that performance (the vid) on Kazaa, without success.:f***:

Exactly why they don't get the credit they deserve, and exactly why they are so great. They don't spit out 3 minutes of high-paced, repetitive bull****. You have to be patient and let it happen and, when it does, it's brilliant.

Haha, pretty much. Hugo will have a visit I'm sure.

It will go something like this:

Evan: "Tool rules!:rockman: "
Ben: "Yah, tool ****ing rules!:rockman: "
Evan: "Yah, Eulogy, it's about Jesus and stuff....but it's bad!! :rockman: "
Ben: "Yah man, Tool rules, Jesus sucks!:rockman: "
Evan: "This song rules: (insert lyrics to one of many songs)"
Ben: "Yah, that one is sweet, so is this one: (again insert lyrics)"
Evan: "For sure, why can't we just be sober?"
Ben: "I know, Jesus keeps blowing his ****ing whistle."
Evan: "He had a lot to say, he had a lot of nothing to say."
Ben: "Yah, all about the past and done, but I know the pieces fit."
Evan: "Me too, but we just keep spiralling down."
Ben: "Oh well, I've learned to swim."

Evan: "Oh well, atleast I've found some kind of temporary sanity in this ****, blood, and cum on my hands. And, I'm stepping through my shadow."
Ben: "Eleven is when we waved Good-bye"
Evan: "Good-bye"

and so on.....

Amnesiac (the new one) is a little less mellow that Kid A. You definitely have to be in the right mood for Kid A. You should pick up Amnesiac though, it's great IMO.... weird (relatively, at first) ... but great all the same.

Make sure you download there B-sides too, ala Talk Show Host, Inside my Head etc.

Is that a hard song to play? I'm looking for nice acoustic "rock" songs to play. I just mastered Coldplay's Green Eyes which is a lovely song and ain't to difficult (mind you that I only play guitar for a bout 6 minths, so it'll be freakin' easy to you :D) and "In My Place".

Furthermore is that Jools Holland thing downlaodable off Kazaa?

I haven't found any of those.

Eh, we also played "In my place". :)
"Lucky" is easy to play. Well, it has a bridge and a solo in the end, which might or might not be hard for you to play, but even if it is, it's a good way to learn. I think I have a tab somewhere. If you want it, I'll send you by email. ;)

I've got quite an amount tabs on my PC as well, if you could pass me that "lucky" tab then that 'll be great. I'm getting into tabbing songs these days as well. Recently I submitted "In My Place" to Ultimate-Guitar.com, though it hastn't been posted yet. Right now I'm learning myself Karma Police. Just back from a great holiday in Europe with the unimaginably amazing
climax of attending both radiohead gigs in the Coliseu do Porto. The best
holiday ever topped by possibly the best night of my life on the 27th, no
joke!

Firstly, there is an error in your setlist for the 27th july gig. Between 'I
Might be Wrong' and 'In Limbo' was 'Morning Bell'.
Secondly, I have a very good recording of the gig on the 27th but don't know
whether to upload it. Would anyone really want it? I don't have alot of
webspace you see.

Finally, you don't appear to have any reviews of either Porto gigs so here
are my offerings, edit at will [you cant expect me to brief about these
enormous events]:

27.7.2
6pm. You'd be forgiven for thinking the crowd outside the Coliseu do Porto were the same as yesterday. We spot a few familiar faces from the nightn before, but there is a definite shift in the company today: I sensed that tonight would be special. spooky.
10pm. The 'head are back, with a force. 'There, there' really is a kicking song, a rollicking start to the evening and i was right, the crowd are up for a big night tonight. They lap up every new song, the list of which has changed since last night. I'd been looking forward to 'Punch Up at a Wedding' ever since i heard the title, but its not what the title immediately suggests! A veritably slow number in fact. A high point is when Johnny heads for his flashing sci fi console to steer the starship Radiohead through 'Sit Down, Stand Up'. It should also be noted that Colin was on something tonight, a fixed grin on his face and bouncing round like a [lovable] idiot. Whereas last night i felt i connected on a cosmic level with Thom and Johnny, tonight I'm partying with Colin and the ever good-looking-despite-seeming-to-do-little-on-stage Ed. I'm always partying on a cosmic level with Phil.

The set list has been expertly judged tonight when they pull out Paranoid Android right on cue, then follow it with Idioteque. Crikey, we were bouncing off the walls by that time (sic)! They play the usual trick of wandering off stage one by one as 'everything in its right place' retreats, but tonight we're not letting them off that easily. They've played us like puppets and we're hungry for more - 3 encores more. The now traditional rendition of 'Ole, ole, ole, ole' by the crowd seems to do the trick, and for the second encore Thom accompanies us on piano! They then give a wonderfully haunting performance of 'We Suck Young Blood', actually quite a beautiful song, before their intended exit music [sic], 'Karma Police'.
But oh no. I knew tonight was special. The set lists on stage said that the gig was over, but every single body including those on stage were having too good a time. "This is gonna be a nasty shock..." said Thom.
And as I looked around the Coliseu do Porto, everyone on their feet, not wanting, just happy to be in the presence of those on stage, I knew this night could never be bettered. I do belong here.

You were there that night right min?

You know I was just thinking how weird music is really. And what it can do to someone, even more when you're making it yourself and looking for new influences.

Imagine me something like half a year ago, I was into Nirvana. The deafening, distorted yet melodic sounding guitar parts combined with the most powerful drummer the world has ever seen and the terrifying voice of Cobain made me fall in love with that band.

Soon after I was lucky enough to get hold of an electric guitar from a mate who went to Austria for 3 months. I started playing and all I wanted was playing along with Lithium, In Bloom and of course Teen Spirit.

When I got to that stage I wanted more, so in came Silverchair, perhaps not as good as Nirvana but Daniel Johns' playing ment new chords and new styles for me to learn.

Now I'm listening to Radiohead (since seeing this thread) and really start to get into them. Obviously I don't like everything. I'm not at the stage yet where I like the weirder stuff, but when I saw the video for Karma Police when it was released a few years ago I couldn't stand it and always zapped it away, now I feel like it is one of the nicest songs I've ever heard, the chord progression/scheme is so beautiful. And when Hugo talked about how he had played "Lucky" with his band, I listened to it thought it was absolutely amazing. What a feel that song has around itself. The dark and low chords of verse together with the weird voice of Thom Yorke is mindblowing. So much power in such a soft song.

I obviously still like Nirvana, they're one of the greatest ever to excist and I still definately don't mind listening to Lithium or anything else of 'em. I can't get tired of Silverchair's Freak, Hollywood and Anthem for the year 2k, but there's so much more then just the powerchord......
