Kris 10-01-2003, 04:03:AM hi jigger, i had a similar problem afew months ago... i transfered all my mp3's from my pc to my laptop via network. for this each pc will need a network card, and you will need an Rj45 cable to link the too up, then its a case of 'tuning' then to pick eachother up there r loads of guides to setting your ip address's up on the internet if you search for 'home networking' or sumthing similiar hope this helps kris Amika 10-01-2003, 12:28:PM Originally posted by jigger37 Is there a way i can transfer all my mp3 files(50) from my current pc to a new one im getting in the next couple of days without burning them on cds, there should be a way shouldnt there?any ideas? jigger my brother.. listen to me this big daddy.. :D well, there are several way in getting this thing done.. kris_leeds has just given u a way, but that is if u got a network card for both system.. so u can't do that if u don't ... it is going to be a bit technical but i'll try to explain it as simple as possible.. the best way to do this, u open up your old pc and try to take out the old hard drive, try to look at it and see whether the jumper is set to cable select or master only, if it is cable select then it is ok, if it is master only then u need to change it to either cable select or slave drive, so that when u plug it in to your new system that the new system can detect the hard drive.. th jumper is usually located just beside the power plug.. and the instruction to set the jumper are normally located on top of your hard drive.. once you set the jumper you open up your new system and plug the hard drive to the IDE cable, normally the cable connected to your new hard drive will be the master so u just plug the old hard drive into the slave connector and then on the computer. (it is a clone pc, they should be able to show the old hard drive in the slave there. other branded pc may not show this info so don't panic it depends on the motherboard bios) after you get into your windows you should be able to see the old hard drive in My Computer there.. then u just start copying whatever files u want from your old hard drive to your new one... |
