GoHawks4 12-01-2003, 06:27:PM Spurs take it 4-3 mostly because of Robbie Keane, but the real story is Brian McBride in his debut match scoring a goal and having an assist. :rockman: I hate Columbus, I hate Everton, and I hate McBride, but this is a good thing for the US.
TottiNZidaneR#1 12-01-2003, 06:59:PM do u know what kind of goal McBride got?? i think it will be a header but u never know.
GoHawks4 12-01-2003, 07:04:PM He slipped a low shot under the other American in this match, Kasey Keller.

TottiNZidaneR#1 12-01-2003, 07:07:PM that pretty cool btw how old he is like 28 right??
GoHawks4 12-01-2003, 07:12:PM I think so. I just hope that this opens the door for more Americans to have a big role in the Premiership, like Clint Mathis who could be going next year, DaMarcus Beasley who is being saught after by Boro in the 4 Million range, or any number of others.
TottiNZidaneR#1 12-01-2003, 07:14:PM well yea but i dont think they should just get signed like that i mean we need some good ppl here in the mls too or else mls whouldt be that good.
BTW i found out he is 32, DAMN he is OLD, i thought he was younger thou.
GoHawks4 12-01-2003, 07:42:PM Clint Mathis' contract with MLS is up after this season. He is by far the most talented player we've ever produced.
IceBlu 12-01-2003, 09:01:PM Extremely entertaining game :) ! a Canadian and an american up front for Everton :p hehehe....and both scored :D
Robbie Keane was all over the place ! every time he touched the ball he looked like scoring.
a draw would have been a fairer result imo as Everton did very well to come back from behind on 2 occasions.....but just couldn't manager the fourth goal.
im happy to see McBride score on his debut :rockman:

Who gives a damn about the MLS is our national team can be any good and if we start getting EPL games on tv over here. That's why our national team won't be brilliant any time soon, because MLS is not willing to sell any stars to European teams, BASTARDS!
Beasley though, is absolute crap and would embarass me if he went over to Europe and was a representative American soccer player. He has speed, wow, amazing. He doesn't have touch, strength, a mind for the game, I really look at him as a kid who was too small to play American Football. He's not good and a whiney little brat.

unfortunately that seems to be the main factor to be considered a good player in the U.S. :|
PScott 13-01-2003, 07:40:AM who gives a damn about MLS?
Whoever cares about the US national team should hope that
MLS becomes a quality league.
Do you remember what the national team was like before MLS?
I dont like to because they sucked so bad.
Oh and by the way, I would think that Ajax and Middlesborough would only put in bids to buy Beasley if he was quality.

That's becuase speed is the one thing that can't be taught. I can teach someone how to dribble better, how to anticipate the movies of the man he's marking, but I can't teach you to run 40 yards in 4.2 seconds.

For me, the only use of the MLS is to showoff young American talent so they can move to a good league and be a true asset to the national team. Who were the stars of the National Team? MLSers? um...no. Reyna, O'Brien, Friedel, and Donovan (although he is currently in the US) were all bought by European teams, and they are as good as they are because of europe, not MLS. And in the MLS we have.......Agoos. Yeah. Ajax won't buy him, and boro won't either. I've seen him play about 20 feet from where I was sitting and get DOMINATED by a phisical Milwaukee Rampage defender. Any team that scouts him out, will realize he is not a good player.
PScott 13-01-2003, 11:00:AM OF COURSE AGOOS SUCKS!
Thats not news. Boro nor Ajax would buy him, but they would
buy beasley who in your earlier post said was garbage. Which
he is not.
And as for MLS players
They accounted for 5 of the US goals in the world cup.:mrpimp:(6 if you count goos's og):f***:
MLS may not be an "elite" league but the quality is getting
better on the field which is what counts!:mrpimp:
FuriousGeorge 13-01-2003, 08:34:PM I thought Beasley was pretty impressive in the WC2002. However, I havn't seen or heard anything about him since then. But I 'm not suprised as I follow Malaysian roller hockey more than the MLS.

Donovan never cracked the first team of Leverkusen. To consider him a Leverkusen player is almost humerous. He plays in MLS. Clint Mathis is the best MLSer and he scored a goal against Korea. Pablo Mastroeni plays in Colorado, and he had a wonderful cup.
Run DMB 14-01-2003, 01:04:AM First of all a great debut by McBride, great to see him score a goal in his EPL debut.

I don't agree with anything you said. Beasley is an excellent player, Pele praised him after seeing him in the World Cup (much of which Beasley missed due to injury). He has speed, he's no Maradona but he's got very good ball control, decent passing/shooting. And he's definitely not a "whiney little brat", I don't know what could give you that impression. What have you seen of Beasley anyway, since you don't watch MLS? How many US NT games have you seen outside the World Cup? Beasley really burst onto the scene right before the World Cup, in the 5-6 friendlies before WC 2002.
I remember what you said about McBride too, and now he's scored in his EPL debut. Do you like any US players at all? And what you said about the non-MLS players being the stars of the team, that's not true at all.
Donovan (SJ Eartquakes) - one of the best players for the US at the World Cup, scored two goals
McBride (Columbus Crew) - also a top player, scored two goals
Beasley (Chicago Fire) - was one of the best players in the Portugal game, unfortunately missed most of the tournament
Mathis (MetroStars) - a great striker with a brilliant shot, scored one goal in the World Cup
Mastroeni (Colorado) - was very important for the team in defensive midfield position
Pope (DC United) - did very well in central defence, having to help out Agoos who was struggling
