View Full Version : An Apology
Drinky UKSN 20-06-2000, 10:45:PM I think its only right that we apologise for the England team and for a_shearer. Not the player, but the forum poster.
You have managed to be combative and completely failed to be gracious at all. It is England fans like you that can't accept defeat that just annoy me (and, I feel, are why lots of people abroad think England's fans think they are above others). England were shocking in midfield tonight and have been throughout the tournament. The defence has had gaps in and the striker partnership never really gelled. However, rather than talking football, you have talked about:
1. War
2. How much money you have
3. How you hope there will be riots
4. How you hope Turkey and Yugoslavia will fail
5. Anything other than the facts - your team, England, played badly and lost.
So, on behalf of a_shearer, I apologise. Some people around here, such as Neutral, are above this sort of outdated and quite frankly racist nonsense and are willing to debate footballing matters and not Harrier missions to bomb Balkan states.
Pindasoft 20-06-2000, 10:51:PM Why apologise for him, cant he do that himself? He is the one talking dumb, let him take the 'credit'.
Drinky UKSN 20-06-2000, 10:52:PM I think he won't, rather than can't. I know his 'type', not wanting to be judgmental or anything.
Zambrotta 20-06-2000, 10:53:PM Drinky, damn good post. Thank you. However, I think these lines won't mean anything to a fool like a_shearer. Can't stop this world's evil even if you try to give your best everyday. Destroying is easier than builing. (getting pretty esoteric now).
Schumacher 20-06-2000, 10:54:PM I'm sorry, I got carried away in the post to shearer as well. I got caught up in the emotion I guess. Anyway, my original reply brought up the Balkan war to Mrkovic, I apologise to him and to and any other Yugoslavs. When my post comes up will edit it. The way you put it Drinky it makes me feel ashamed of myself. Sorry again.
Schumacher 20-06-2000, 10:59:PM Guess I can't cos the thread is closed. It was stupid of me anyway.
Mrkovic 20-06-2000, 10:59:PM Apology for what Schumacher said is not accepted.. wtf is ur problem??? how can you say such a thing.... you are a sick human being... there is a line on what can be said and what can't... although maybe I have been mean to the English here, I never did or say things you had just said.... How many serbs do you think support Milosevic?? The people for 8 years now have tried to get him off power.. All of my family lives there, and not a SINGLE one of them support him...

Zambrotta 20-06-2000, 11:13:PM I once worked in the lab with a fellow student of mine. She is Bosnian. She was making a gel and I told her to be careful with the reagents, as it harms your respiratory tract and is really toxic.
She said: "I survived fleeing under artillery-fire from my homecountry, how can I fear something I don't even see?".
These were among the most terrifying words I ever heard. More than the TV-reports and all the explosions they showed me a human, whose life will forever be badly injured by the faults of others.
So maybe ALL of you think about this little episode next time before anyone post a comment on war on this board.
kingcasey 20-06-2000, 11:28:PM I find it rather depressing when jingoism in sport becomes an excuse to refer to the notion that its 'All out War'.Down here in Australia we are getting plenty of news covering the riots and almost nothing covering the matches themselves.I know this has something to do with Foxtel by-passing the 'anti-syphoning' laws, but also because Australia isn't in the Euro 2000 it's way down the priority list. The national one day cricket here is promoted along a nationalistic 'come on aussie come on'theme. Then when the match is interrupted with bottle throwing hooligans everybody is suddenly up in arms about it.I think the display of rioting during Euro 2000 is nothing more than this problem taken to a far more advanced stage.
Schumacher 20-06-2000, 11:52:PM Firstly I said sorry, and it was stupid of me. Secondly, I said I had no problem with Yugoslavs just with Milosovic. I didn't say you didn't try to get rid of him - I DID say it wasn't your fault for what he did. And I was annoyed by the way you implied the Shearer's cousin would somehow feel bad for bombing Yugoslavia because England were knocked out. I was sarcastic, yes, but only because I was pointing out that we are bitching about a game on a computer game forum and bringing family relationships and politics into it for no reason! Yes, I'm as guilty as anybody too. But look at what I said -
"Your people suffered for the actions of your idiot leader" - He is your leader, like Blair is our leader. I didn't say you wanted him to be your leader.
"And I don't hate Yugoslavs, just your murderous leader" See above. And I take it you are a Yugoslav?
"We all know what Yugoslavia was doing inside of Kosovo, yes the West's response was strong, but we had to be" - just stating the facts, Milosevic would have been better a better choice than Yugoslavia.
"I can imagine what Shearer's cousin will be thinking now - "I wish I hadn't taken part in the bombing of Serbia now that England are out of Euro 2000! Just think, if I hadn't helped save all those innocent lives, England would not be getting slagged off on an Internet forum about a computer game! What a fool am I!" - It was too strong. Sorry.
"Did you think for a moment that you are happy not because your team did well, but another did badly? How sad is that? " - it's true, isn't it sad that when Scotland lose and England win, the Scots fans are happy (some of them, not all of them)???
I didn't accuse the Yugoslav people or you of saying anything. You implied that England losing was direct revenge for Shearer's cousin bombing Serbia.
I'm sorry again, I was too strong and caught up in emotion. But Mrkovic, I don't see anything in my post that justifies me being called a "sick human being".
GShakan09 21-06-2000, 04:39:AM thank you drinky, that was an almost perfect apology. you outlined everything quite well.
and yet, mr. a_shearer has not replied in this topic yet. again showing how unresponsible and unreasonable he is as a human being. you are right. it is these fans that ruin it for england.
we DO have the impression that english fans think they're the best. after all, you go anywhere, like on this forum, you see most of the topics dominated by english fans talking about their league or ranting about manchester utd. or something, and little of other leagues. we see english fans present totally biased views of events and we see them say that they made football so they deserve to be the best. i think it's just that we get frustrated at that, that england dominates like 50 percent of the conversations, and we're sick of it. that is why we hate england. but it is good to see that there are reasonable people like drinky that don't adopt some english people's snobby racist attitude, like a_shearer.
i mean, just to make it clear, the man rants about how he has a nice house and nice car and how he has all this money and stuff as if this were right after WWII and eastern europe was still the berlin wall and communism. as if the standard of living in other countries is getting up to the more developed nations. as if england is the richest nation on earth. and most importantly, as if money is everything.
Canoe 21-06-2000, 10:40:AM Firstly
CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP
A round of applause to Drinky, and a big sneer to a_shearer for not being the man he claims he is.
Mrkovic, please remove the wooden forrest from your eye before trying to remove the splinter from Schumacher's
PS - Gshakan09, 'as if money is everything'. Well....to most people it is, just look at Hansie who gave up his whole career and plunged himself into deep trouble. Oh wait a minute, that wasn't Hansie's fault, it was the devil's. Somebody gonna tell a_shearer he can use the devil as an excuse for his actions ?
a_shearer 21-06-2000, 05:20:PM I think maybe some of you missed the point. In the midst of your many smiley faces, elation, and nationalism following England's loss, you mis-interpreted the meaning of my message.
It would be easy for one of those run of the mill liberals to write off my message as racism without even reading it.
And without even trying I can finger several of you as sickeningly politically correct liberals.
I was simply trying to say that I find it utterly remarkable that nations striken with poverty and strife can field a football team capable of defeating England. Does that reflect poorly on England's Football Association...yes. Does it also reflect poorly on the national priorities of the impoverished nation defeating England? Maybe...
Now that I have said this, let me say that I think Schumachar has nothing to apologize for. While the small-minded liberals among us may interpret my message as offensive, NOTHING he said was un-true.
I shall not pander to racists. And don't kid yourself, they are nothing more than racists.
In this crazy liberal world if I said HALF the things they said about England, you would brand me a racist. But they can go on spreading their non-football related hate un-judged.
Why?
You wouldn't like the explanation if I gave it to you. It involves a political theory that evolved after WW2. It set the mindset of the civilized world back many years.
It is true that football has nothing to do with politics, but the many liberal, un-warranted, and bigoted responses to my posts are alarming. Defending war crimes....attacking MORE than just English football.
I must say that this disturbs me greatly.
And if I can stay here and discuss football, then all the better. However if the agenda continues to be set by politically minded PC liberals who wish to pander to the every disgusting remark of nationalists and racists, then I will not tolerate it further.
Voltaire 21-06-2000, 05:40:PM A_Shearer is not the only one behaving as such. If you blame him, then you have to blame everyone else. Why single him out amidst a crowd of similiar offenders?
I even heard a racist comment about how Northern Europeans cannot play football. To attribute talent to biological physique is extremely racist.
GShakan09 21-06-2000, 09:53:PM this is exactly what annoys me to hell.
look you little twit a_shearer why would money and how rich a country is have to do with how well their football team plays?????? WHAT DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING????? this again goes to show a_shearer's complete greed and blindness as a result of money. he sees money as everything, even as an effect on the level of football. you f**king nobrained idiot, think before you talk you little sh*t. (sorry, couldn't resist)
ok, answer this. how does BRAZIL have the best national team in the world? they are also "poverty-striken", according to your standards.
Schumacher 21-06-2000, 10:15:PM Shearer, m8, it's not what you say but how you say it. I was trying to point out in my post that it was pitiful that (A) People were celebrating another team doing badly, not their own doing well, and that this was bad for football and international relations. (B) I was angry that Mrkovic implied that we had no motive in bombing Yugoslavia and that we would bomb anyone for the hell of it. (C) I was also angry at the implication that England's loss was some sort of divine revenge for the bombing of Yugoslavia. BUT like a fool, I went in with all guns blazing, insulting people, being sarcastic and bringing up something stupid. What people object to about your posts Shearer,as they did with my mine, was the way you said things. You implied that people in Eastern Europe lived in the middle ages with rampant war - which isn't true, and as offensive to them as if somebody was to say to us "You stuck up English, beating down your black servants in your colonies and licking some inbred Queen's arse". The most disturbing bit in your posts was that you said that Turks and English hooligans should destroy Belgium and Holland, just because England lost. I'm sure all this was just thru the red mist after some provocative comments here. We were all stupid yesterday, but today is today and today were two of the greatest matches I've ever seen...
