Im listening to various rap and hip hop artists, and some of The Verve, Three Doors Down, Nirvana, 112, etc.

I'm listenin to quite a bit of Oasis' new Album as well as Foo Fighters (There is nothing left to lose album) oh and the Soundtrack from NBA Live 2003 and Tony Hawk 4

Lately I've been obsessing over local girl Esthero, her voice totally gives me goosebumps..."superheroes" "swallow me" & "anywayz" are good tunes if you're into chill-out tracks.

The new Chili Peppers album is amazing.

Kader, I thought the same thing when i first listened to it. But now, its one of my favorite albums. It should grow on you.

Can't Stop (the next single) is arguably the best song on that album.

I agree with Kader on this one. I d/l it when it came out, cos it was advertised heavily on TV while the World Cup was on, and I have been a RHCP kind-of fan for a while now, since catholic schoolgirls rule days. And By the Way had a very catchy, and thumping, tune. But too many of the songs on the album sound like they are almost - there, but not quite, or polished versions of songs that lack a raw edge to them, but would be much better if they had that edge. I gave the album many playings to reach this conclusion, but I think that too many songs lack something special. Even the funkier songs are a bit, i don't know, trite (for want of a better word). They just sound too rehearsed. But then I guess their target audience is older now (mind you, I AM the age of their target audience, but maybe I am not ready for AOR yet).

Just my opinion.

Blood Sugar Sex Majik is still their best album, hands down.

Anyways, with Swedish thrash outfit 'The Haunted' coming to Melbourne next month I've been pumping their brutal live album a lot, same with the epic band Opeth who are coming in April. Also, I've had Dream Theater on a lot, ever since I got their 3 disc 'Live Scenes From New York' - Evan, that's a band for you my friend.

On the other side of musical tastes, I've been (over)playing that song by the Russian lesbians a lot. Probably because they're lesbians. And lots of French reggae and rap.

Yah, that album is weird. This first time I heard it, and the first few times i heard most of the songs, I thought it was relaly good and was going to keep getting better. Unfortunately though, it seemed to do the opposite; the more I listened to it - the less I liked it, and, well, rhizome said the rest pretty well. IT's a shame because the "sound" seems so right, yet the songs just lack the "umph" they are dying for.

Thats the phrase I was looking for :D

It doesnt have the energy of BSSM or One Hot Minute, but this band has matured so much and it shows on this album. I personally love their new sound. Theirs 7 or 8 songs on that album that amaze me.

This CD got very good reviews, except for a few who hate the mellow RHCP and want the old RHCP back.

But, it all just comes down to musical tastes.

Definately. I sort of went off them a bit after One Hot Minute. Their latest stuff sounds good, but like you've said, it lacks the oomph of their older stuff.

First off, it's great to see that we all have similar tastes. Not the same, just similar. ;)
My current mp3 playlist has a lot of common songs with Kader's and Vince's. Also great to notice, that.

About the RHCP, I agree with what has been said by K-Man (especially the songs you're still hooked to), Aaron and Evan. I started by thinking this record was better than the last, but I suddenly lost interest by its songs. I don't remember the last time I played those songs.
Mind you, John Frusciante is a guitar genius and a great singer, probably even better than A. Kiedis. 'Californication' is a superb album, one that has what this last one lacks: songs.

Oh, and I don't understand why they are labelled as one of the best live bands around. They played the worst gig I've ever seen, which caused me to NOT go to their concert last month in Lisbon. Apparently, that was a wise decision, since they showed (again) no heart and soul onstage, with John being the lonely exception.

And while some of you are speaking of RHCP, i don't have any of their albums, but i really like the stuff they did on Californication, but the new stuff, especially "Can't Stop" is just plain sh!t to me...... :|

Well, Kyuss can be seen as the best exponent of the stoner rock genre ever seen, here's a discography.

My personal fave is Sky Valley, songs like Asteroid and Gardenia are superb. Anyways, you obviously know now that Josh and Nick formed QOTSA and continue to pump out some nice stoner rock!

I'm not the biggest Kyuss fan, but if I were gunna listen to stoner I'd listen to them.

Haha. I'm pretty sure they are one of the worst live acts I've ever seen (not in person, personally). They seem to be too ....absolutely fried to be able to make coherent music.


Hmm... Yah the new album is disappointing, to me, because every song has a really "neat" sound to it that could turn into something so brilliant, but by the time you get to the end of each song, you feel unsatisfied, imo.

Correct.
Morello is one of the best guitarists in the world, and yes, that's a great solo right there, but I don't get any of your sexual innuendos with pigs and cats when I hear it. :D

Yeah, they should change the album's name to 'coitus interruptus'.

I was there, seen it live. The problem was that they didn't want to be there, since that was the last tour date, so they just poured down the music with zero feeling. I'd have more satisfaction if I had stayed at home listening to the record. And even my band makes less blunders live... :kader:
The worse part was that the crowd was totally wild, since it was their debut in Portugal, so you can imagine everybody jumping and screaming and them not giving 2 facks... It looked more like a rehearsal.

Exactly........the riffs........the solos......the drums.........such a shame that Cliff died......a legend gone. :( ..............i still can't believe that MOP sold around 5 million back then.......and that was without any video on eMpTyV......airplay or commercials...what an achievement :rockman:

And yes, their next album, "St.Anger" should be out 10th June........just around the time i finish High School...can't wait.........

I just want to suggest 2 of the best albums I have that I don't even remember of being mentioned here.

Oasis - Definitely Maybe "this is the true Oasis and not the sh!te we listen today'

Faith No More - Who Cares A Lot? (the greatest hits) " If you like bands like SOAD, Papa Roach, Linkin Park or any of those so called "nu metal" you should at least hear this album once. Songs like Epic, From Out of Nowhere and Falling to Pieces are simply amazing and this band is the only one I ever heard that can sound completely differente from one song to another.

Never put SOAD and Linkin Park in the same sentence :kader: :crazyboy:

I disagree with that. Definitely Maybe is by far the best Oasis release. This last one is cool, just that.

Sheryl Crow sings way better. She makes the song actually sound pretty good.....

It's getting played a lot on Kerrang.

Nirvana, Coldplay, Radiohead, Green Day, Bush, Norah Jones, Ozzy Osbourne..... that's about it. I hate jazzy stuff, but somehow Norah makes it accessable for me....

Yeah, her voice is quite......... smooth.

Great choices! I have a special ed. of 'Definitely Maybe' and some FNM albums (but not the greatest hits). Man, listening to bands like FNM just makes you wonder how crap most of today's heavy metal bands really are...:( Or maybe they were too good...

I got mad respect for the roots and jurassic 5, i bought their latest 2 albums.

Dre is one of the most influential rapper, and he's probably the best producer in hip-hop...ever. No doubt. Nelly is - like u said - "pop influenced" and they're commerical. But rap and hip-hop have revolutionized since uhmm...BBV, Slick Rick, Ice-T's era.

If you let a 16-year old listen to Nas' Illmatic, they'll say: "Good rapper, but I think it sucks." Why? 'Cause so much **** is consideren main-stream and categorized into hip-hop. Like Killer Mike said: "Rap is dead."

Eminem's Sing for the Moment is part of his thing. I respect it, I don't like it, but I doesn't make him a pop-artist. All the other things he did: battles, Rap Olympics, his indie albums, "Off the Wall", half of the MM Lp. Man, that's some of the illest **** since 'Pac and Biggie left the game. Lyrically, they're uncomparable. Then you have the being-white-issue but that's something else.

You hate MTV as much as I do. BET, same ****. You know they're getting paid for playing a song. Same with radio. The famous WPGC-95.5 and 97-Fm. Both got paid $200.000 to play the song Mesmerize by Ja "R&B" Rule and Ashanti.

Eminem being on MTV is because he's white. Simple. Suddenly all these white kids think rap is great. I've seen it happen before my own eyes! I make my own mixtapes (totally LEGIT don't worry) and after Eminem exploded, all these white kids came up to me to buy bootlegs from me and buy his older CDs. And they paid good, no doubt, good customers. NP. But then ask them if they want Nas, they say: "What?"

I'm not saying Em's bad but MTV is wack. 50 helps the game. He's the first black solo artist to be #1 on TRL. If 50 was signed by Def Jam or Colombia (which he was but then dropped, let's just pretend) then he wouldn't sell this much. But the underground for wanksta was there way before it was featured on the 8 soundtrack. Don't give me the **** that 50 is walkin' in Em's footsteps. Lyrically they're SOOOO different. and eminem outshines him. but the stuff 50 says and em says. they ain't the same.

Death of Escobar was average during his time of reign. Dissappointing, but still a great album. Just not the classic I expected at the time.

Then you have some annoying songs, yet they grow on you, and after time it sounds excellent, one of these is The white stripes - fell in love with a girl. As much as I hate the shout singing, I love the instrumental tune. It's superb.

I've liked Coolio for a long time. At the very least 8 years. I also loved I'll be watching you, when Puff Daddy pinched Sting's I'll be missing you. The lyrics are excellent.

I like old-school rap, the definition of old-school hip-hop is kinda different for everybody. I listen to Slick Rick, Run DMC, Nas' in the late 80's, BBV, etc.

Some songs take some getting used to but it's a quality album. Still listening to it.

Albarn does play the guitar on one song that I know of, 'We've Got A File On You', but I'm not sure about the others. Coxon is on one song, and it's a beautiful song too, but then so are others without him.

I wouldn't get it if you want a guitary album though. I'd maybe listen to it first before buying it to see if it's what you like, but if you are in 2 minds after a listen then get it, because it grows on you loads. :)

Pop punk offers no variety.

That being said if i had to save one pop punk band from a fire, it would be the ataris. they may not be the best one out there, but i have life events that are connected with this band.
