View Full Version : No more politics for me here (cue applause)
rhizome17 14-02-2003, 06:37:AM This may not be the right way, but frankly I can't be bothered right now...
Ok I am outta here for a while. It conicides nicely with my decision to build a new PC anyway (so i won't be having net access or reliable e-mail for a bit anyhow), but really things have gone a bit silly recently. I am gonna stay away for a bit, and only post at the political forums where I apparently belong (and in some peoples eyes should have stayed). I will check around here now and again but no more poltical discussion for me on these boards until after the war has been on everyones TV. See some of you on MSN now and again (if I get the backup PC running soon). Best to let things sit until cooler heads prevail around here.
My reasons?
First read this thread and try to discern if I had done anything wrong. Sorry you can't see the sig I had that caused a commotion , but I took it down to appease some people, but hopefully some of you can remember it, it was about Iraq and WMD and Israel and the 1980's etc.: http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60342.

ryan_goal 14-02-2003, 06:48:AM hmm, calm down a bit dude, i know how u feel.
probably Paul was drunk or wasnt in good mood or just broke up with his girl...watever(H)
after all we are all human beings so we have emotions:p
btw u didnt get a ban or something did u?
anyway wish u will be back soon.;)
Larry 14-02-2003, 07:33:AM damn. well man see you round (you will get away tips in the rugby super 12 predictions, so you could still win :P)
Nimreitz 14-02-2003, 07:50:AM Hey man, don't depreive the forum of your insightful opinions just because some doosh bag thinks differently than you. There is more support for your opinions than there is for censorship, after all this is supposed to be a haven for free speech. If people are morons, as some have been in this case, just forget about them, but the forum will suffer for awhile without you.
Damn. Good fun readin your posts.
This is poo.:( :( :(

I'm sure you could guess how I feel about this.
You're better than these forums, in these terms in particular. Move on, because for now it's a neverending, repetitive, useless battle.
See you on the front lines.
Deutschland 14-02-2003, 11:25:AM Rhizome, you're one of the most sensible, well respected members in these forums and when I see a thread that you made (with a respectable title  ) I make sure I read it.
Good luck with your PC (Kiwis... making PCs:crazyboy: )
Ubik Valis 14-02-2003, 01:36:PM No wonder "some" people think these forums are sh!t and boring........cause as soon as someone comes in with a bit different opinion (i'm not talking about rascist opinions and sh!t) bam! The hammer falls!...... :kader:
I'm surprised to see Paul having a problem with it........i wonder why really........
Parra Power 14-02-2003, 02:10:PM wat??? you aren't even staying around for your 2000 posts? :crazyboy:
Hendrik 14-02-2003, 02:31:PM No...please stay :(
INFESTA 14-02-2003, 03:24:PM Hi Aaron.
First of all, you should know that this is your decision alone, and my purpose here is not to replace you in that matter. You're a responsible adult, an intelligent person, who knows what's best for him.
Perhaps the most important thing I got to say is that Paul's views are not SG's. He is acting in a very immature fashion, trying to censoring what is good discussions, that most of us feel they're relevant. The day that SG censors people's opinions (that aren't breaking any rule) is the day I leave to never come back.
So let us make it clear: you are having a discussion with two members of this forum, Paul and his brother, and not with Soccergaming.
Again, if you feel that, because you're not getting along at the present time with 2 people, you should leave, that's your decision.
I've come across similar battles since I've joined this forum. Most of you don't know about it, since they take place in the boardroom. I have to be honest - sometimes I get a bit disappointed and feel like leaving. But I don't. I haven't, at least. We're all learning here, and quitting sometimes means losing; others just mean that we got better things to do. You decide which one suits you best, man...
If you do leave, then I can just say how sorry I am, and how sorry Paul should be. It's great loss to the forums. Hopefully, we'll still talk on MSN here and there.
EDIT: I'm closing the thread. You made your point, so lets not get this discussion out of proportion. ;)
hermolt 14-02-2003, 03:29:PM As Hugo says - things like this have happened before and will happen again. God knows it's easy to become disillusioned and say 'sod this' and bugger off. But as has been said before these boards will become immeasurably poorer for the loss of your good self. I urge you to reconsider...please stay!
IceBlu 14-02-2003, 03:43:PM All you guys are making this whole episode sound like a freakin melodramatic soap opera !
its a forum ffs !
And since everyone is entitled to state their views, Paul is no different...... and if his views can make a person leave - then so be it.

Of course everybody is entitled to their views.
I thought this whole thing came about bcs Paul didn't want poltical discussions on this board. Yeah, it's just a board, so what's the problem with people talking about the war? And where's the right to state our views now?
I think we should let this issue go. Everybody's (still) free to talk and make their decisions about leaving or staying...
xxxFLYERxxx 14-02-2003, 05:58:PM I agree with Ice. Some people get way too attached to these message boards. And, it sounds like Rhizome is making a bid deal out of nothing.
Who the hell cares man.
Sir Calumn 14-02-2003, 06:53:PM I admit I will miss Rhizome's more high brow threads.
The reason I dont post in any of the political threads is to avoid the insults that Rhizome has endured. If I posted my views on Iraq I would offend so many people.....

1. I "left" the non-football forums, because one of my post

(needless to say it hadn't got any racist\cursing approach)
2. with all the respect for Rhizo, all those post shows something,
if you act like you're a superstar, people will belive you're one.
or in other words: if you'll copy and paste other's wise words,
people will see you as an inteligent individual.
to summit it up: I have nothing against Rhizo or anybody else,
but I can't say I'm sad cause he's leaving...
plus, as I don't want to be dragged into arguing again,
but I must responed to some idiotic compare which was made in
other topic here, between Bush & Hitler.
something which made me go mad...
How defective can a person be?
this new generation don't know or care from jack,

"Arbeit Macht Frei", you know what it is?
think & learn before you make a stupid compares like that again!

He's simply letting us know why he's leaving. I think an explanation, especially if he wants to give one, is fully appropriate for a member that has 1,400+ posts in a matter of months; 1,400+ posts that have probably made most of us have an opinion one way or another about the guy.
Sure it's a forum "FFS", but it's a forum that you've posted an obscene amounts of posts on and I'm sure the same "FFS" could('ve) been said to you on numerous occasions.
I agree with your last statement, but I don't see a problem with Aaron making a last point/stand about something he sees as an injustice--something he's (was) making a living off of on SG.
You are only adding to the "melodrama" by ******dly opposing it.
It's obviously totally up to Aaron if he wants to leave and whether his reasons are justified or not (it is just a forum, i guess). Maybe he doesn't need to make it an issue, and he could just let it fizz out, but that's not his style. ;) If he does go, the forums will be lesser for it, which is a shame. He will join S_B_J as an omnipresent ghost I'm sure.
The forums don't need to be hurtin' any more than they all ready are; I've resorted to posting old forwards "ffs".:read::$ (:/)

And i agree with Yash, that everyone is entitled to their opinions,,,,,,but it seems to me someone is just trying to take those opinions away from people, simply because they don't agre with them ? :kader:
Nimreitz 14-02-2003, 11:07:PM My general rule in the forums is to only take seriously those who I recall making numerous intelligent posts. Despite some 5400 odd posts I don't remember Paul having one, therefore I cannot even respect his arguement in any way (especially since he's clearly wrong here). Guys like rhizome and Neutral cause a stir when they leave because they contribute intelligent posts on a consistent basis. Even if you don't agree with them, they make you think.
Sukur54 14-02-2003, 11:43:PM This has happened before too. He made a damn opinion that aparently some specific person didnt understand or didnt want to understand. This specific person seems like they didnt read the rules. Rhizome is a very good person who has lot of good point of views on things. Maybe some people couldnt take it? And like INFESTA says the day that SG censors opinions is the day i leave too. Im tired of some immature peopple that dont even know what they talk about half the time thinking theyre sure of it all and making dumb mistakes like this.
Hope to see you around Rhizome because i dont think this is a valid reason for you to leave. I think you should stay and that specific person should leave instead. Guys better watch what you say he might delete our posts too.

Next, I did not add to the melodrama - i just tried to curb it coz it was looking pretty darn ridiculous with ' I'm gonna sit in a corner and cry ' posts.
and yes, it IS a forum FFS. And yes i have an 'obscene' post count but i don't expect myself to be immortalized in some hall of fame i couldn't care less about. You're immature bcs you're brother looked stupid in that incident with Aaron and now you're trying to stir things up. Want another proof? Just look at how you treated Alex, who is one of the finest guys here, in the SGF Administration thread. :kader:

As for Aaron leaving... thats a shame, coz I felt like I was learning something from his posts :(
zul-aid 16-02-2003, 02:19:AM Well i think its time for my 5 cents (like no one saw it coming!)
Im a very opinonated person as you all know but im not here to stir things up, nor critizes anyone (even if it appears to be)!.
When I came here in the middle of 2002 I found this forum quite interesting with all the stuff on FIFA and only went to FIFA2002 forum for tech-help. then I started visiting this forum which seemed really interesting people discussing music, politics (remember Sept 11th Threads were still going) etc etc....
There was little to no flaming until i put myself (wrongly) in the cross-fire between Lui and Pauls big bust up which also included Callan..... Now between then and now I meet afew people to whom i clicked with - most of the admins as i find there attitude to be extremely high standard
People like Skip, JTNY, Parra Power to whom I talk on a regular basis and will continue to do so.....
But what i have found in recent weeks - is the stinch of **** that seems to be filling this forum
Going back to the mod elections: I asked Alex (Skip) why there was going to be change - because Matt wanted it to be changed (which i thought - OK it is his forum) then Gareth returned (again asked Alex) why is he back - Matt gave him a second chance
There all fine but i have come to realise is - this is no longer Matts forum - its the mods.....
Paul isnt the only one who has been swinging his weight around - i dont know what is being said in the boardroom but what i will say is here:
Im leaving also as most of you are aware i hardly visit this forum as finally i have a life im comfortable with - the only reason i visited this forum was because of a rough patch in my life - friends and relatives where on my back and i needed a few new friends socialising with the real world wasnt my cup-of-tea in the end....
I enjoyed this forum but really is it worth coming here day after day to be flamed or be the flamer, to critize a former ally on this forum etc etc.
Im sick of the BS that is this forum - mods critize mods, people critize people to the ends of the earth before mods step in.
I understand why Rhizome, Skip and many others have left in recent times and you can add me to that list....
I dont care what people will reply to like "your an idiot" or "please dont leave" i always critized those people who did so, so dont bother with it as probably i wont read it - i find it lame and self-serving to read those things - like it was a cry for attention.
to the people at FIFAOceania:
The NSL patch and the World Cup/NSL tipping threads
I will no longer be apart of any of it - sorry i will send the access file of the dbi file if anyone wants it but since no one except Parra Power wanted to help me in finishing it then really i dont see the importance of it.
Im certainly not saying im never going to post here again its just this FORUM is NOT WORTH THE ****. people GROW UP and as someone said dont take this forum seriously but if your taken seriously as a few of us arnt then leave.
Dont bother replying im not going to read it.
Hendrik 16-02-2003, 03:36:AM Damn, another friendly member is leaving :(

and yes, it IS a forum FFS. And yes i have an 'obscene' post count but i don't expect myself to be immortalized in some hall of fame i couldn't care less about. And feel free to use as many FFS's against me. I DO NOT CARE. I'm not going to lose sleep if some random LaBrujita doesn't send me a Christmas Card :| I'm hurt that you aren't hurt by my lack of feelings for you.
"If he does go, the forums will be lesser for it, which is a shame. He will join S_B_J as an omnipresent ghost I'm sure." - Ooooo :| Im sure you're gonna talk to your kids and grandkids about the legends of RHIZOME17 and SBJ...
I was simply acknowledging Rhizome's (and SBJ's) contributions as individuals to this forum, and the fact that he, Rhizome, will be one of those members that is mentioned, from time to time, well after his exit (i.e. SBJ).
Thanks for that though. Next time I'll just tell the guy to ****-off.
you feel the need to make up for your real-life deficiencies by posting smart-ass, punctuated posts and think you're smart....well, BE MY GUEST.
A) You know nothing about my personal life whatsoever. If you want me to talk about myself in detail and let you look at the glaring deficienies, just ask. Don't make assumptions, I'd be happy to put something out there that we can discuss specifically.
B) I tend to make fairly punctual posts, yes. I'm pretty sure, however, that it has nothing to do with personal defiencies. It may have something to do with thinking I'm smart; maybe my self-respect and self-standards makes me want to make every post worthwhile. It might also be because I'm an english student, so me like english proper.
I also don't want to post the same old nonsensical bull**** that 95% of forum (not just sg) members do--it's boring. I find when my posts start heading that way I realize it's uselessness, and I generally stop posting for quite awhile.
You may have noticed that post mostly in the topics with some sort of interesting/controversial topic. I'm not here to make friends or talk about my life (adjudged by your lack of knowledge of who I am), I'm here because of repetition, habit, and, originally, because of the (diminishing) presence of some culturally and ethically diverse, interesting, controversial topics.
C) I see no problem with certain people's angst (now I'm just having fun with it) to the loss of Rhizome. He was, afterall, a highly knowledgable poster. The thing is, there's a huge variation in the level of reason for viewing and participating in this particular forum. Some are here for fun, ****s and giggles, while others are here for politics, ethics, and some mental stimulation. The people at the more extreme end of the latter were, more often than not, interested in many of Rhizome's opinions, or the opinions that he supplied. To some, these posts were over-the-top or over-their-heads; to others, it was a continual, or somewhat-continual, stream of readable material on relevant topics.
It's not the end of the world; it is just a forum/a forum member. But it's all relative: Making a pretty big deal about it on SG should, then, translate as a moderate to minimal "deal" in real life, if you catch my drift.
The point is, he wasn't your standard poster, and, in that, he is a loss to a major aspect of the forum.
These forums at the moment are full of fighting.......
Fights always seem to revolve around a certain someone...... (j/k)
Yet......... everyone should calm down.
Why doesn't everyone just let everyone else post what they like unless it is rude/racist/against rules etc.
There is no need to talk ill of what someone says if it doesn't break the rules. You can disagree with someone on an issue, fair enough, but if it something like someone using good punctuation (just an example) there is no need. There is no need to have arguments on very trivial matters.
EDIT: Sad to see you go Zul.

Robert Roberts 18-02-2003, 12:51:PM It's sad when people leave forums.
It is even sadder when people leave forums because they feel they are being censored.
Knowing Rhizome and his politics, the censored material was most probably something that I would disagree 100% with. However, this is supposedly a website where all opinions can be aired, whether we like them or not.
The people who have forced Rhizome off the forum, have robbed not just myself, but everyone here someone who knows his stuff, and THEY SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME!
Rhizome is most probably the most intelligent thinker on this forum, and personally should've won the moderator election. I can very much understand why you are leaving, in fact I have thinking along those lines recently myself. He has changed my opinions slightly on a lot of things, some which have come to me in the past week, most probably since I begun reading Michael Moore's Stupid White Men which is beginning to have the desired effect on me.
Nice knowing you, and keep believing in what you believe in. In these times that we live in, it is brilliant that there are still some who will stand up for what they believe in. Regardless of the consequences.

I will no longer be apart of any of it - sorry i will send the access file of the dbi file if anyone wants it but since no one except Parra Power wanted to help me in finishing it then really i dont see the importance of it.
Wow, 2 Oceanians leaving in such a short period of time :(
It's going to be a dark and lonely place in Oceania for a while... :(

Sling me some right wing stuff then. I doubt it will change my mind, but I'm always open to reading their arguments so I can think of ways to rebut..;)
Stupid White Men is the book I own but never have because it's always on loan..:(

Wowsers!
I don't really like the whole 'it's just the internet (it's just a message board)' argument in this situation, mainly because feelings and emotions can be just as real as real life. Some people can get passionate about their opinions, internet or not (i'm one of those). Obviously, some rednecks and morons get married without really knowing each other first over the internet; some idiots do things like make physical threats against other people over the internet, but in this case it's more than that. To me, Rhizome seemed extremely annoyed (understatement) about this and I can understand why. Although I did not agree with much he said because I am pro-America and I also could be quoted as saying something like, "every post in this forum is basically anti-US and it's tiring," I never asked that members just take their opinions and stick it up their ass. All I meant for is that, "can we talk about something else for a change?"
I mean, the posts on this thread from Rhizome make Paul look really dumb, and I believe someone else had said it best with something like, "Rhizome has made 1400+ posts, mostly intelligent - out of your 5400, I can't recall one intelligent post."
By no means am I claiming all my posts are gold, but I know that i've made some decent posts before; give me a topic i'm pretty knowledgable about and i'll give you intelligent posts.
Rhizome always had something to say, but things that normally educated me or had strong backup. When I had the time, I enjoyed reading what he had to say. I'm sure he'll make his way back again, if someone thinks that a message board is important enough to make an immense number of great posts on, then that person probably couldn't just forget about it.
This does not have to do with the topic really, but when you talk about people criticizing bad grammar, punctuation, etc., IceBlue, and say that it does not matter... I do agree that it is very petty, but also know that just like in the real world, how you portray your appearance to others makes a difference, even when it should not. More often than not, people who are putting thought into what they say are going to be more careful to use the language well. I guarentee that if you took two people of the same intelligence and one said, "I believe that I should get the job because I am the most qualified." but the other said, "i belive i should get the job b cuz im most qualified," then who is going to be taken seriously?
hermolt 19-02-2003, 02:53:PM Rest assured, juventusita, even if you hadn't made an inteligent post before then, you now have. ;)
TOON ARMY 19-02-2003, 08:58:PM Well i haven't been here long but ive definetely enjoyed reading Rhizome's posts. Anyway good luck, its a big bad and politically unstable world out there so your going to need all the luck.
