INFESTA 15-05-2002, 08:04:AM Yep, the Mavs are out.:(
Who do you think will win it? San Antonio? Can the Kings rule the NBA? Will the Lakers get that 3-peat? Is there any team in the East that can go all the way to the championship?
KADER 15-05-2002, 11:21:AM Hopefully not SAN ANTONIO! http://www.soccergaming.tv/images/smilies/puke.gif
I really don't like them... i think i started Disliking them when I was 9, and saw their court- Teal and pink http://www.soccergaming.tv/images/smilies/puke.gif :D
I don't think that Charlotte can make it to the next round. That means that Celtics (also leading 3-1 with Pistons) will play Nets. I sure hope that Celtics go to the finals
Now West:
Kings are already in.... Lakers are leading 3-1 with Spurs, so LA will go to the next round. Between LA and Sacramento hmmmm....
Lakers were always my favorite... They were my favorite since Divac was playing for them, so u can see that I liked them before they started winning... But now, i am a bit tired of them winning everything ;) It's usually like that with me. I stop liking the team after they begin to be very good :monkey: I would like to see Kings in the finals, but I predict that Lakers will play Celtics. Seems like Lakers win it again.
INFESTA 15-05-2002, 11:49:AM Wouldn't it be great to see another Lakers-Celtics final? :) That's the only scenario where I can stand seeing the LA based team in the finals without puking.
Nobody likes Kobe, he's the Manchester United of basketball. He's good (better than good, actually), but also arrogant and tries to impersonate MJ all the time. He even sticks his tongue out from time to time!:mambo:
The Kings will have a tough contest and, although I like 'em very much, I don't see them getting past the Lakers. This will be the real final, because the East teams are a joke. Like Barkley said in the Leno show, "If I pick up other 4 guys in the audience, we're already east playoff contenders".:D
Can't stop the rush... 15-05-2002, 12:05:PM GO BULLS! :monkey:
I don't see any way of the Spurs coming from 3-1 down to win the series, Lakers are just too strong i.e. Shaq and Kobe.:D
maddog1983 15-05-2002, 09:41:PM lakers v boston would be awesome but i dunno still alot of games to be played.. i'm a golden state warriors man myself :( we are no where to be seen ... great idea for a forum !
INFESTA 16-05-2002, 01:18:AM Celtics and Lakers reach the conference finals!
Timmy "MVP" Duncan failed to get his team past the Lakers again. Man, how come was he elected MVP of the season ahead of Jason Kidd? The Nets PG had an amazing season, lifting his team to the 1st spot in the East... and they're almost in the SF too.
Manchester City 16-05-2002, 01:09:PM Hey I think the Kings have a good shot. I feel that LA will not win for once. Chris Webber is so hungry to win a championship! How about CWebb's stupid TO call in the Natl Championship to lose the NCAAs a few years ago. He really wants it, and he wants to play the best. Beating the lakers is what he is focusing on right now, not even his g/f Tyra Banks! :mambo: :crazyboy: So, I feel that the Kings will beat the Lakers in 6 and the Celtics and Nets will go to Game 7 and the winner will lose to Kings in 6. :)
Can't stop the rush... 16-05-2002, 02:22:PM Let's just say whoever wins the West will win the championship.:hump:

INFESTA 17-05-2002, 05:52:AM The Nets made it to the conference finals!!! Go Jason!!!!:)
Can't stop the rush... 17-05-2002, 04:01:PM Who are you taking Celtics or Nets?:crazyboy:
INFESTA 18-05-2002, 01:47:AM Oh, Nets all the way! Kidd is a fantastic player. The way he raises his team mates' game just reminds me of the great Magic Johnson!
Jason is a winner. Shame he likes to beat up women.:(
IranianAmir 20-05-2002, 11:25:AM Go Celtics!!! It would be so great if Boston becomes a powerful team again after so many years of sucking! heh.
INFESTA 20-05-2002, 11:38:AM Well, the Lakers are on their way to the finals. They beat the Kings on game 1 and claimed home court advantage. Can anybody stop them?
Can't stop the rush... 20-05-2002, 02:43:PM Don't think so. Who will stop Shaq? Vlade Divac? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:crazyboy:

Manchester City 25-05-2002, 06:18:PM The Lakers don't seem to be ruling right now...the real Kings do...:p
Can't stop the rush... 25-05-2002, 10:30:PM I still think the Lakers will win the series, Because with Shaq and Kobe, You just can't stop the rush...:mambo: :D

I think the East teams don't stand a chance IF the Lakers go to the final. Just look at the Celtics roster, who do they have capable of containing Shaq below the 40ppg mark?
I'd love to see the Nets winning it, but it's not going to happen.
emmer 27-05-2002, 08:18:AM i think kings actually deserve the title, but i really want a lakers vs celtics final  :p
anyway the last celtics vs nets was really cool!! celtics - 41 points in 4th qtr, amazing, amazing. :rockman: :clapwap: :brow:
INFESTA 28-05-2002, 12:05:AM Damn. Lakers win with a last second trey by Robert Horry.:mambo:
Hmm, the momentum switched back to LA. Tough losse for the Kings, that can leave its scars on the players' morale.
EDIT: Just saw that 3 pointer about 5 times in a row, on nba.com - You gotta love the Lakers.
Can't stop the rush... 28-05-2002, 01:13:AM Poor Kings, They had the game.:brow:
emmer 29-05-2002, 08:11:PM these games are sooooo cool... it seems the team that is winning the game is letting the other team making some points so the last minutes of the 4th qtr will be amazing, always :D :mambo: :monkey:

ManU2000 03-06-2002, 07:29:PM Lakers win series 4-3 in OT. All those missed free throws by Sacramento cost them dearly. Hopefully Lakers will now go and beat the Nets. As good as Jason Kidd has been for the Nets, Shaq is going to lead the Lakers to victory as there is no one on the Nets who can guard him.
emmer 04-06-2002, 08:32:PM i'm supporting nets :mambo: :o

Going for 3 ! BACK to BACK to BACK ! :D
INFESTA 07-06-2002, 06:02:AM Lakers up 1-0. I'm starting to believe that they'll sweep the Nets... Geez, what do you think, Evan?
Internazionale 07-06-2002, 09:03:AM Lakers will win the series by 4-1. :)

The new LAKERS' dynasty is finally here. :p
Chelsea2001 13-07-2002, 03:26:AM Congrats Lakers, i would like the 76ers to win one year
The World Basketball Championship in Indianapolis will start tommorow....the countrys in the tournament are..Angola
Argentina
Brazil
Canada
Puerto Rico
Argentina
Yugoslavia
Turkey
Spain
Germany
New Zealand
the tournament starts tommorow and ends september 9 2002..the favourites to win it are of course USA but right behind them is Yugoslavia.
here is a little statement by the Detroit pistons manager .. Yugoslavia really plays a control game," Ronzone said. "They'll try to slow it down on the U.S. They'll use Divac and Drobjnak in the low and high post and then force them to commit to either their shooters or their low-post players. But I think that the fact that this team has improved so much defensively will be what ultimately gives them a shot. They'll keep the game close and then hope they hit some big shots down the stretch."
this should be exciting and i should be updating ... but if not just go to www.nba.com and they should have updates....Thanks :D
heres some info on every team :D
POOL A
ANGOLA
David Bane, Pacers.com: Playmaker Miguel Lutonda leads the way for this year’s team, connecting on 67 percent of his field goal attempts while averaging 15.7 points per contest in the African tournament. The 30-year old guard from Luanda drained a team high 21-22 from the free-throw line and also has long-range capabilities with 47 percent accuracy from the 3-point line ... Brothers Angelo and Edmar Victoriano round out the double-digit scorers for Angola at 10.5 and 11.1 respectively, and Edmar is the top returning rebounder for Angola ... The Angolans struggled from the line in the African competition, managing just 63 percent accuracy as a team. Jean-Jacques Conceicao, the center, is the most experienced player at age 37 and provided 8.9 points per game with his interior presence ... With an average age of 28, the Angolans have plenty of international experience. Angola also represented Africa in 1989,’91,’93, ’95, ’99 in international basketball competition.
WBC appearances: 3
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Experience is a factor, but it'll be difficult for Angola to get out of a tough pool.
CANADA
Rautins: When you look at the fact that they've lost Todd MacCulloch and Jamaal Magloire, Canada became a very small team, averaging 6-7 or 6-8 tops on the front line. Then they lost Steve Nash. That is just huge. Really, it's like taking Michael Jordan away from the Bulls ... Without the size up front or the All-Star talent at the point, the team will need good especially good performances from its wing players: Rowan Barrett, a former St. John's star, is a solid defensive player, contributes offensively and he's got experience. Dave Thomas, a former Michigan State player, is 6-7, plays excellent defense and gives them a bit better overall size at the wing position ... Prospoer Karangwa and Andy Kwiatkowski have been impressive as well, but again, both are around 6-7 and the big question there is experience ... Up front, Michael Meeks and Kevin Jobity will need to have a big-time tournament. They can both run the floor, but they have to have big games on the glass and in the post every game ... In this pool, Canada's going to have its hands full. Put it this way: They can't have any slip-ups.
WBC appearances: 11
Record vs. USA: 0-7
Bottom line: They have to play pretty much perfect basketball to have some success in this tournament.
SPAIN
Gasol
Kountis: A team with a lot of potential that could be a surprise. ... They obviously will look to Pau Gasol as their go-to guy, but they have others who will step up as well. ... Juan-Carlos Navarro, nicknamed "La Bomba" (the Bomber) is an explosive, quick shooting guard who can score in bunches. ... Spain also has good veteran inside players. Felipe and Alfonso Reyes give them a brother-tandem at the three and four spots, respectively. Felipe is more versatile, but Alfonso is strong and experienced. ... Spain will also draw strength from their coach, Javier Imbroda. He has them playing hard and uptempo. They're also a very opportunistic team under Imbroda, always looking to jump on their opponent's weaknesses. ... Spain will suffer greatly from the loss of point guard Raul Lopez to injury, though. Lopez is quick and versatile, and his direction will be missed by a team that will try to push it up the floor as often as possible.
WBC appearances: 7
Record vs. USA: 1-4
Bottom line: They'll ride Pau as far as he can take them, but they'll be missing Raul.
YUGOSLAVIA
Divac
Stojakovic
Kountis: Yugoslavia is the biggest power of European basketball. The self-described "Americans of Europe" are a very confident team. They are known for an arrogant style of play, and they're not scared of anyone. Kings swingman, and Yugoslav national, Peja Stojakovic recently stated that Yugoslavia can beat the U.S. in this year's WBC. It might be just a statement, but this team is focused and dedicated. And they have a long history of success. This team has the best shot of knocking off the U.S., although it would still be a big upset. ... New coach Svetislav Pesic is well-liked. Pesic is easy-going, and finds a good balance between his players. The Yugoslavs have had in-fighting before, but Pesic has managed to smooth things over. ... Dejan Bodiroga is slow, but he can play five positions. He's a very complete player. The 29-year-old played for Panathanikos in Greece, and now is with Barcelona. ... Marko Jaric is a 6-7 point guard who is expected to play for the Clippers this year. ... Of course, Stojakovic, Vlade Divac, and the two Sonics -- Predrag Drobnjak and Vlad Radmanovic -- will be big contributors as well. ... This is a versatile team that can do anything.
WBC appearances: 11
Record vs. USA: 5-4
Bottom line: The biggest threat to topple the mighty U.S.
POOL B
BRAZIL
Malavazzi: While Brazil will greatly miss Nuggets rookie Nene Hilario, they still have some talented players who could step up in Hilario's absence. ... Marcelo Machado is a do-it-all player who averaged 28.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 6.1 apg for Fluminese during the recent Brazilian National Championship. ... Veteran Rogerio Klafke is a very good three-point shooter. Early in his career, Klafke was projected to be the next Oscar Schmidt. ... Working against Brazil, though, is its reputation as a weak defensive team. Coach Helio Rubens has been working to improve their defense, and if nothing else, the Brazilians are still capable of filling it up. ... Brazil has done well in recent competitions (they took the U.S. to overtime in the Goodwill Games in Australia where they earned the bronze medal), so if they can clamp down a little on defense, they could surprise some clubs.
WBC appearances: 13
Record vs. USA: 5-6
Bottom line: Defense is key, especially with Hilario out.
LEBANON
Conrad Brunner, Pacers.com: Coached by Carl John Neumann, who played for five teams in five ABA seasons, then three teams in two NBA seasons. Lebanon is perhaps the least likely team to be participating in the World Championships after pulling a stunning 75-72 upset of Korea in the semifinals of the Asian Basketball Championship. Though they lost 93-67 in a heated rematch with China - the teams had engaged in a major bench-clearing brawl after China won a preliminary meeting - the Lebanese team already had done enough to quality for the Worlds ... The big name here is Fadi El Katib, a 6-5 guard who averaged 22.5 points and shot .551 in the Asian tournament ... The center is 6-11 Joe Vogel, a naturalized Lebanese from the U.S. (Colorado State), who averaged 12.8 points and 10.4 rebounds in the qualifying tournament.
WBC appearances: 0
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Not expected to make much noise in the team's first-ever appearance at the WBC.
PUERTO RICO
Santiago
Malavazzi: Puerto Rico lost three key experienced players -- Tonito Colon, Eddie Cassiano and Sharif Fajardo -- to injury. This means that coach Julio Toro is now guiding a much younger team. But they're still dangerous. ... Jose "Piculin" Ortiz, a 6-11 center who, despite his age (38), is still a very effective player ... Point guard Carlos Arroyo and shooting guard Larry Ayuso have caused a lot of problems for opposing teams with their shooting and defensive quickness ... Also 7-1 center Daniel Santiago, formerly of the Phoenix Suns, will team with Ortiz to give Puerto Rico some size down low ... Basically, this is a team that will have to make adjustments due to injury, but if Toro can get them playing together, they could be dangerous in the early rounds.
WBC appearances: 9
Record vs. USA: 1-6
Bottom line: They have size, but how will they make up for lack of experience?
TURKEY
Turkoglu
Kountis: This is an enthusiastic, uptempo team that was the biggest surprise of the 2001 European Championships, when they made it to the finals on their home turf in Istanbul. ... The potential is there for this team to advance. They're a very ambitious team. Their departure was a big deal in Turkey, and the entire team dyed their hair blonde as a sign of unity. ... Ayden Ers does a very good job as coach. He does a great job of motivating his team, and knows how to play to their strengths ... Turkey is talented as well. Ibrahim Kutluay (Panathanikos in Greece) is expected to be the leader. He's a big, talented shooting guard. ... Mehmet Okur is their big man. The 6-11 center/forward was drafted by the Pistons ... And of course, there's Hedo Turkoglu, the Kings' rising NBA star. While he's best known in the U.S. for his play in Sacramento, possibly his defining moment came in the semifinals of the 2001 European Championships when he pulled a Willis Reed and led Turkey to a semifinals win over Germany despite being injured. His heroic performance sums up what this team is all about: drive, desire and passion.
WBC appearances: 0
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Blonde ambition might lead to Turkish delight.
the rest .........
POOL C
ALGERIA
David Bane, Pacers.com: The Algerian National Team will represent its country for the first time ever in the 2002 World Basketball Championship after reaching the final game of the 21st African Championship for men ... Ali Bouziane, the second youngest player on the Algerian roster led the team in scoring. The 25-year old guard averaged 16.1 points per game in the African tournament that consisted of seven games ... Forward Mourad Boughedir is Algeria’s top rebounder at six boards a game. Boughedir is also the only other double-digit scorer at 10.4. Algeria averaged 72.7 points in the tournament and also struggled from the free-throw line with 59 percent accuracy ... The Algerians' key appears to be balance, as they have six players on the roster averaging between six and ten points ... Samir Mehennaoui is the most veteran player on the team at age 38.
WBC appearances: 0
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Algeria will have a rough go of it against the big guns in Pool C.
CHINA
Bateer
Xu: The best team in Asia will find the World Basketball Championships a tough challenge. ... All eyes will be on NBA top draft pick and 7-5 center Yao Ming, who should excel if his performance (13 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots) against the USA in an exhibition on Aug. 22 is any indication. ... The U.S.'s Michael Finley called playing against Ming an "eye-opening experience" and said that "he earned our respect." ... Ming will not be enough to carry a young squad with average strength and athleticism, however. ... Center Wang Zhizhi, who teams with Ming and 7-1 Mengke Bateer to form the "Great Wall," will not compete for China, a significant blow to the team's outside shooting. ... China will play a halfcourt game to take advantge of centers' height. ... Extreme long shot for a medal has never finished better than eighth place. ... Quarterfinals would be reasonable goal.
WBC appearances: 5
Record vs. USA: 0-3
Bottom line: Ming proves he's ready for prime time, but that his country is still a few years away.
GERMANY
Nowitzki
Kountis: Germany will obviously rely on Dirk Nowitzki, but then he's quite a player to rely on. If he's healthy, Dirk is quite possibly the top player in the tournament. He can carry this team a long way. ... The Germans have some other talented players as well. Former UNC and NBA forward Ademola Okulaja will provide strength and scoring inside. ... Shooting guard Marko Pesic is the son of Yugoslavian coach Svetislav Pesic. Marko is a good shooter who is accurate from three-point range. ... Patrick Femerling is a physical seven-footer who can play inside. ... For a long time, the opinion in Europe was that the Germans have big bodies, but no sense of play. But now they know how to play. They have international experience, and have earned a lot of respect. They should advance, but getting a medal will be tough.
WBC appearances: 2
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Dirk in uniform is enough to scare any opponent.
UNITED STATES
Finley
Pierce
Conrad Brunner, Pacers.com: Though Team USA is still the prohibitive gold medal favorite in the WBC, the potential for upset is strong. For the first time in international competition, the U.S. team will face a field that outnumbers them in terms of NBA players ... The U.S. roster has three 2002 NBA All-Stars (Jermaine O'Neal, Baron Davis and Paul Pierce) and three former All-Stars (Reggie Miller, Antonio Davis and Michael Finley). O'Neal, Davis, Shawn Marion and Andre Miller were teammates on the gold medal-winning U.S. team in the 2001 Goodwill Games, and that experience was enlightening for young players who had little previous exposure to international competition.
WBC appearances: 13
Bottom line: Still the favorite against the most skilled WBC competition yet.
POOL D
ARGENTINA
Malavazzi: This is a very talented team that could make up for the country's failures in the 2002 World Cup of Soccer. Every single player on this team is playing in Europe or headed to the NBA, meaning coach Ruben Magnano has the luxury of going 12-deep. Simply put, Argentina is good enough to reach the semifinals or finals of this tournament, and after the U.S., have to be considered one of the favorites ... It all starts with Spurs rookie Emanuel Ginobili. The 6-6 Ginobili is the complete package. The former Italian league MVP averaged 19.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 4.3 spg for Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna last season ... Fellow Spurs rookie Luis Scola will give Argentina a great presence inside the paint, and the 6-9 forward can also score from the outside ... Point guard Pepe Sanchez is another player with NBA experience. Sanchez, who wasn't known as a great shooter in college or the pros, is a talented playmaker who will benefit from playing with shooters like Ginobili and Scola.
WBC appearances: 9
Record vs. USA: 2-6
Bottom line: Expectations are high, but this talented team should deliver.
NEW ZEALAND
Marks
Conrad Brunner, Pacers.com: This will be the first Worlds appearance for New Zealand since 1986 in Spain, which had been the country's only appearance ... Point guard Mark Dickel averaged 11.0 points and 5.7 assists in the Oceania Championship ... Forward Pero Cameron and guard Phil Jones each scored 19 in the clincher, an 89-78 victory over Australia, and they also tied for series scoring honors at 16.7 ... Forward Tony Rampton (12.0) and guard Dillon Boucher (10.0) were the team's leading rebounders. New Zealand had beaten Australia just once in 35 meetings before an 85-79 victory in the series opener ... Kirk Penney, who helped Wisconsin to a share of the Big Ten Conference title this year, was the first all-conference player to come from New Zealand ... Center Sean Marks became the first New Zealand native ever to play in an NBA game with Toronto in 1999 and averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds with Miami in 2001-02. Marks has been battling injuries but should be at full strength for the World Championships.
WBC appearances: 1
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Beating Australia was a coup in itself; anything else will be a bonus.
RUSSIA
Kirilenko
Kountis: You never know who is going to show up with the Russians. This is a team that is capable of making some big results, but they could be a disappointment as well. ... Andrei Kirilenko is their big star. He is a tall, athletic player who can do it all. ... Two other major contributors will be the Pachoutine brothers, Zakhar and Evgueni Pachoutine. Zakhar is a shooting guard, while Evgueni runs the point. Both are capable, athletic players who will help guide the Russian attack. ... Russia also has three or four players similar to Kirilenko, which makes them a dangerous club. ... Overall, this is a tall, athletic team that is the most traditional basketball power in Europe. But this team is an enigma. They're talented, but you just don't know who is going to show up.
WBC appearances: 2
Record vs. USA: 1-2
Bottom line: Never rule them out, but which team will show up?
VENEZUELA
Torres
Malavazzi: Venezuela is in a tough group -- with Argentina and Russia looking like the teams to beat -- so coach Jim Calvin's goal is probably to prepare his squad for Olympic qualifying tournaments next year ... This team still has some NBA-caliber talent on it, though. Rockets guard Oscar Torres had a surprisingly strong 2001-02 season, and gives Venezuela a go-to guy ... While he doesn't have Torres' explosivenss, Victor Diaz is another player who can fill it up, as his 23.6 ppg average for the national team proves ... Venezuela will also still be counting on former NBA player Carl Herrera, who still has talent, but at 36 might be hard-pressed to be the true inside threat this team needs.
WBC appearances: 1
Record vs. USA: 0-0
Bottom line: Could be a tough foe in qualifying, but advancing is tall order.

Nimreitz 29-08-2002, 06:03:AM Even without many top NBA stars, this shouldn't be a contest. USA will win by a mile, and half the basketball fans won't know the competition is going on.
INFESTA 29-08-2002, 04:26:PM Don't think it'll be that easy, man. The US team doesn't have that much experience. I don't like the Yugo team that much myself, but guys like Divac are wicked weasels, that could hurt the American team's focus.
I'll be supporting Angola, not only because they're coached by a portuguese, but also because they have a couple players in their roster playing here. Jean-Jacques is one of them. Sure that at 37 yo he's in the end of his career, but this guy was quality. He slammed the most amazing dunk ever, jumping from the free-throw line and burying it in Nique Wilkins face.
I also love Germany. Guys, if you think Dirk is really "the work", you should see him play for his NT. This guy rocks the house.(H)
One final question, though. Our sh!t tv will only broadcast the final stages. Does anyone know where I can see the games live on the net? Thanks.

Except for Paul Pierce that is. And as much as you guys want to believe that the US won't win, they will. It just won't be as easy if we had Shaq, Ray Allen, Kobe, Iverson, and those guys.

Well, you are top favourites, that's for sure. You also have home advantage, but you're clearly not invincible. USA had a bit of difficulty to beat Germany (shame they only have one Dirk and Pesic can't even guard a turtle), so they look like they can be beated.
Now IF you had Shaq, Ray Allen, Kobe or Iverson, we wouldn't be here talking about how USA can actually suffer to win the WC. We would be talking about how the US team slashed the opposition...
Btw, I'm very disappointed with the home crowd. And you guys say you like basketball... All the games I see, except the US team, have absolutely ZERO people watching. I was looking at the Spain highlights yesterday and I was asking myself if they weren't showing footage from their morning practice instead. How can this happen, man?:kader:

Nimreitz 02-09-2002, 08:27:AM Yeah well, I said earlier in this thread that half the people in the country who follow basketball won't even know the tournament's going on. No offense to the World Championships, but why go to a minor league game, when you have a major league team? The NBA is just simply put, better than the WCs, and that's why no one cares.

And where the hell is Nimreitz when we need him? :D
xxxFLYERxxx, I didn't know that players like Pierce and Finley were scrubs, but you seem to be right on one thing - the games were tight indeed. :D
Anyway, it was players like AI and Kobe that refused to participate, and not the other way around, so don't go there making excuses. :P
But hey, you can still make 5th!
Germany also won, so I'm sticking with them all the way! (H)
INFESTA 06-09-2002, 02:59:PM Phew, I'm more calm now. We're all excited here, because Europe's BB has grown a lot and we needed this recognition.
Here's what Antonio Davis had to say about that game. I agree with him, and he shows what a great competitor and sportsman he is.
ANTONIO DAVIS
“All I can do now is apologize now for not representing the game of basketball the way we were supposed to. There’s no excuses and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have gotten it done. The bottom line is we didn’t get it done. Coming into this thing I don’t think we realized how important it is to the other teams and how important it should’ve been to us, not only to represent our country, but to represent the game of basketball. I hope the outcome will show the countries around the world that these countries are getting better. These countries are growing tremendously in a lot of different areas of the game that they weren’t before. They’re stronger, they’re bigger and they’re smarter and they have learned how to play at a young age and we have to respect that. Our young people today and our coaches of today have to go out and teach guys the game of basketball the right way. I think if we continue to do that we’ll grow as much as they’ve grown.”

I am absolutely in shock, but I suppose everyone knew it would eventually happen. When my friend gets online I'll tell you why he thinks we are losing a lot of ground in this sport, it's pretty good, but there's some bias, whatever.
I really hope that now maybe the best players we have will represent their country and the game of basketball in the next big competition. I mean, the World Championships should really have Shaq, AI, Kobe, Garnett, and Ray Allen (there's my milwaukee bias).

Wanna know why the US Dream Team lost in bball?? I'll tell you why, one word: HUSTLE. That game is the absolute worst game invented. Only me and doug have realized this, but it makes no one better and encourages scrubs to show up in their kobe II's and sean john shirts and say "wanna run a hustle?" like they are the ****. players today just think they are the ****, they dont practice. Argentinians obviously dont waste their time playing hustle, they do productive drills like perimeter dribble. Until the hustle stops, trashy euro teams will continue to "hustle" us!!! (big pun)

Don't know if you're talking about everybody or just the American players. If you are, that statement applies to everyone who was in this tournament. Besides, representing your country should always come first, and "having a vacation" shouldn't even be in the equation. I mean, it's your country after all, isn't it? ;)
Nimreitz, I'm not sure what "huslte" is, but I agree with what your friend's saying. People here focus more on shooting drills and simple things. That's why nobody here can dunk. They don't waste time with that. [I can, but that's because I watched too much NBA :D]
However, there's also a second reason for this upset and, curiously, you friend shows proof of it:Until the hustle stops, trashy euro teams will continue to "hustle" us!!! (big pun)
You give us no credit or respect which, of course, plays in our favour. European teams study meticulously their opponents, no matter who they are. I think you would agree that, even though Karl is a good coach, he's neglected this aspect of his work.

Internazionale 09-09-2002, 05:04:AM Congrats to Yugoslavia.
INFESTA 09-09-2002, 05:37:AM Bah, Yugo sucked big time in the final game. Argentina impressed me again, with their fantastic team work, but they lost their grip in the final minutes of the regular time.
However, the refs made two unbelievable decisions in the final 12 seconds. The Argentinian player who drove to the basket in the last seconds suffered two harsh fouls. The refs simply showed no guts to whistle the evident fouls. :f***:
That was obscene and Argentina should have won right there.
Unfortunately, these events made them lose their minds and Yugo, being the more experienced team, capitalized on that.
Overall, this was a great game, worthy of a World Championship final! Argentina made some superb team moves, especially that basket they got after a string of 5 quick passes without any dribbling. "Pepe" Sanchez showed he deserved more minutes in Philly, controlling the game with ease and making some awesome assists. Wolkowzky (sp?) also showed what we've never seen him do in the NBA.
In the Yugos, Bodiroga is a monster and I don't know why he never wanted to join the NBA, because he most definitely would be a star. He's indubitably the best Yugo player.
Divac sucked ni the finals. I know he was 0/7 from the field late in the 3rd quarter, and all he really did was distributing slaps and elbows. He got the steal that sealed the victory, though.
Both Jaric and Peja were lightyears away from what I've seen them do.

Hustle is the game you see on every basketball court in America. It's everyone vs. everyone else, with the first person to score 21 wins. When someone scores, they shoot free throws. If someone calls "three and out" you only get a maximum of three shots, until you miss. If someone calls "all day" you can just shoot free throws until you get to 21 if you can do that. Scoring is by 2s and 3s.

if you tip another player shot in, in the air, you set that player back to 0, and you get three points. and theirs no "all day" rule.
Nimreitz 09-09-2002, 07:49:AM Yeah, we play with and without the tip rule, but you only get two points for a tip.

I guess my all-time fave would be Dominique Wilkins, since he was the guy that turned me into BB and I followed his career. Jordan is a close 2nd, but I gotta say that I didn't like him in the late 80's.
Right now:
1- Dirk (one of the last truly good players of this league)
2- AI (all we shorties wanted to be)
I'd love to see Kobe play a whole season without Shaq.
EDIT: Forgot Spree.(H)
monkee 23-09-2002, 04:08:PM Not a huge fan of basketball now, but my fave player of all time is Dennis Rodman. The fact that he has 5 championship rings says a lot about a guy whose talent on court was overshadowed by his antics off it. He wouldn't score loads but was worth 40pts a game for a team with his rebounding work and ability to frustrate opponents - I remember when Shaq rugby tackled him because he couldn't get the better of the Worm.

Jamison is great. Good to see him turning it on in the shadow of his NC teammate VC. He should be a consistent all-star if he keeps last years form up.
Nimreitz 27-10-2002, 08:54:PM I know why Iverson's called a pussy, I thought it myself too when he single handedly knocked us out of the playoffs :f***:
He's a smart player, and also a light one, so when he drives, as he often does, he gets bumped around, and draws a lot of fouls, so he looks like a pussy. He's not though. I also hate him because he had like 40 points in three games of our series with Philly two years ago.
Can anyone guess my favorite players?
Ray Allen and Latrell Speewell.
Latrell has a house about 10 minutes from my parents, and Ray probably does too, but I don't know where it is. Spree also has his yaght docked in Milwaukee, how tight is that. Not in the ocean, but on Lake Michigan.
And of course Ray is the best shooter in the game.

And he drives ten times as much as Paul Pierce, and is also alot smaller than him. Thats why he gets the calls alot.
IranianAmir 02-11-2002, 06:10:PM Im not trying to pick a fight, so i hope you understand. I just cant respect him for his previous actions. Skipping practices saying they were "un-needed". Blaming losses on his coach, instead of taking responsibility like a team player should. Evan, that's Emanuel Ginobili you're talking about. ;)
I've seen him play in Europe and I expect him to be another foreign star, but I don't think he'll adjust to the NBA style that quikly. We'll wait and see...

Well in his first two years he was nothing short of amazing. Last year he had all those injury problems. This here, there's stuff all over the media in Canada about him, and he says he'll prove himself again this year. We'll see.
Everyoen says he needs to get tougher, he's a pussy. Maybe that won't change and he'll just remain a great talent. Who knows.

The guy was born nowhere near philadelphia, yet he boasts that he is a philly boy at heart. No Kobe, you're not a philly boy.
After the lakers beat the sixers in the Finals, the following year Kobe comes to philly for the all-star game. He excepts to get cheered, but he gets booed like crazy. What do you expect? He might be born there(Born in Philidelphia, PA on August 23, 1978), but he's not gonna let his team lose, he didn't betray anyone it was because Philly didn't want him, and at the all star he just went back to his birth/hometown where he expected ppl to be proud of what a superstar came out of that city, not boo you know he thought they'd act more proffesional, and about that copying MJ, just for a fact he grew up idolizing Dr. J and Magic.
LAKERS 4-PEAT(We'll see in June, no one can stop the big man and the leagues best guard) Actually him and T-Mac are tied for that title.

I'm not a big fan of the Lakers or the Kings. Kobe is a great player but annoys me, Shaq is hilarious but slows the league down, Webber is a great player but acts like he's 17 and has to look cool for the girls in the crowd.

THe problem is that Horry isn't a player that can create his own shots. He has to rely on Kobe drawing player or shaq kicking it out. He is a great shooter, and a particularly clutch one. He is about as reliable to create his own shots as ...... Joe Wolf.(H)

this guy isn't even in the starting line-up for houston

IranianAmir 21-11-2002, 05:23:PM The Celtics CRUSHED the Nets in Boston tonight 96 - 79. Very impressive night by Tony Delk and Shammond Williams. Williams especially. He pretty much humiliated Kidd and overplayed him all game. Go Celtics!!!!!!!!!!!!!

raptors are crap without vc
IranianAmir 24-11-2002, 01:38:PM The Celtics-Hawks game last night was intense!!! I went to the game. The Celtics finally won in Double OT 105-98. The refs were awful. So one way towards the Hawks. But the crowd was so into it, it made everything much more fun. The Celtics were down by as much as 13 in the beginning of the 4th, and rallied all the way to go into OT. Tony Delk is the man!!!

I finally realized the only sport that I dislike now is basketball.
Basketball sucks, sucks, sucks. But I still play it when my friends want me. :f***:

Mirun 30-11-2002, 12:07:AM My favourite players are Tim Thomas, Darius Miles and Bonzi Wells.
I also like Todd MacCulloch - I recall that he blocked Shaq twice in a single game :rockman:
