ogsimon 04-03-2003, 04:25:PM well i cannot believe the criticism arsenal r getting. especially from fans from the top european clubs cus we got two draw against a good ajax team it means that we cannot perforn in europe. may i remind u PSV away, Roma away. last season- bayer leverkusen , Juventus. Man U without henry and Bergkamp domestic.
Sometimes teams dont play all that well but overall quality will shine through.
Real Madrid r a quality side but have just 4or 5 point in a group with dortmund who r worse than ajax and lokomotiv.
Valencia lost 3-0 at home to the 4th best side in italy and r the champions of spain. they have been in the final twice in the last 4 seasons.
Deportivo lost againt Basel fawltey ( i hope arsenal face depor in the next round i hate them) and r third bottom in their group
barca are playing crap in their own league buit r flying in europe
Arsenal and Ac milan r the only consistent teams in all competitions and my opinion that will b the final
also i dont think wiltord should get a new contract i have decided he is crap and needs to be sold. Pennant on the right and aliadiere needs more chances up front. also Gilberto needs shooting practice
ogsimon 04-03-2003, 05:03:PM oh yeah and one more thing. zlatan ibra-hes-a-bitch says that arsenals defence is not up to scratch in the champions league and ive heard people on this forum say it. if so why do arsenal have the joint best defensive record in the of the remaining teams in the competition 6 goals. Real have conceded 12, Inter 14, Depor 17. So u arsenal haters need to think before u talk

"uve decided"....wow, sounds like ur the manager...:|
btw i have nothing against Arse.......at this moment:p
Bobby 04-03-2003, 09:55:PM Wiltord is good, don't forget he's played in Midfield for the injured Freddie Ljungberg, his natural position is striker. He may not be as good as say, Ryan Giggs (as much as it pains me), but if Dennis retires, we'll need another Striker.
antithesis 04-03-2003, 10:24:PM As Ljungberg said, Wiltord deserves respect because he plays out of position.
He was also the first player to openly criticize Wenger for playing time, which suggests he is hungry to play.
He plays very well on the right side, and remember, Arsenal don't ask their wide halves to cross a la Beckham. They are there to nullify the opposing wing-backs and to add to the attack because Arsenal has no centre-forward.
There is not an Arsenal player WHO DOESN'T PERFORM.
Although I think Bergkamp, Keown, Luzhny and Seaman are old as the hills and need, sooner than later, to be replaced.
tottiiii 04-03-2003, 11:26:PM wiltord deserves to be on the field all the time for aresenal...if not he should leave and play for someone else....hes saved them so many times to say he doesnt belong in the starting 11 is stupid.......im not a fan of the team but i like watching them
ogsimon 04-03-2003, 11:33:PM i disagree arsenal need someone to play on right midfield. and for a striker, wiltord gets caught offside when he can easily look down the line. Pennant is faster and more creative than wiltord and has a better cross than wiltord. i also think that the team also carries ljungber when he is playing, he scores a few goals, but does little in build up play
3 players arsenal need to sign to be complete
Cisse or Ronaldinho
Mexex or Gallas
Joaqin, Emre or Reyes
Sell Wiltord, let bergkamp or kanu go
Up step aliadiere and jeffers :rockman:
also We should not be playing with two holding centre mids at highbury. Gilberto is out of form and needs time. put svard or parlour there
Bobby 04-03-2003, 11:36:PM ----Shaaban (when fit, Seaman when he isn't)----
Lauren - Campbell - Keown - Cole
Ljungberg - Vieria (Capt.)
---------------------- Pires --------
-Bergkamp - Wiltord/[Jeffers] - Henry
BN: Seaman (Taylor), Jeffers, Kanu, Edu, Gio, Parlour/Silva
That would be how i'd line them up. Keeping Wiltord and making him a starting Striker, taking off Lauren for Franny if we were down late in the game, and putting Franny upfront, playing right with Wiltord.
Cygan, on the other hand is a donkey, he should go.
ogsimon 04-03-2003, 11:52:PM that is all wrong. Wiltord just doesnt deliver in champions league games. Pennant should play, especially in the champions league when the need for physical strength is less.
MY team
Seaman (frey next season)
lauren Campbell Keown /Mexex (next season) Cole
Gilberto
Viera
Pennant Pires
Henry
Jeffers/Aliadiere
LaBrujita 05-03-2003, 10:46:AM Gilberto is absolute class. I think he's an awesome player, but the way he plays, just doing the job, doesn't let him get much credit. His one downside, IMO, is definitely his shocking finishing ability:crazyboy:.
Cygan on the other hand, should definitely be given his chance to adjust to the league; mind you, he hasn't done half-bad so far. He was the player of the year in the french league (if im not mistaken) last year, and, from what I hear, should've been a mainstay in the Center D of the French NT except they refused to change the team after '98.
But I don't really know THAT much first hand, so take what you will.
-----------------Shaaban-----------------
------------Campbell----Cygan----------
---Lauren------------------------Cole----
--------------Vieira-----Silva--------------
Ljungberg------------------Pires---------
----------------------------------------------
-----------Berg---------Henry-------------
----------------------------------------------
I think Wenger has it right: That's our strongest possible lineup (maybe with Keown in RCB and Camp in LCB). Wiltord doesn't have the passing ability for me, and definitely shouldn't play over any of those front 6, imo. He could fill in for any of the front 4 though.
Stick Ronaldinho in there when DB retires, and it's gold.
edit: I agree with the Pennant vs. Wiltord comments, from what I've seen; but, I'd like to see Pennant more. Aliardiere is sweet too; is he back from that injury?
Bobby 05-03-2003, 11:00:AM Aliardiere is back, playing for the reserves.
ogsimon 05-03-2003, 11:00:AM yeah ronaldinho in there would make it sweet and maybe more of a goal threat than dennis. there is also a player in argentina called d'allesendro who wants a move to england.
Aliadiere has been back since janurary and was quality in pre season and was doing well as sub when playing for arsenal. hes played about 30 mins in total and scored 1 goal

yep ... you've got the world all figured out you do ...
I wish you were the manager of Arsenal ... least they'd play crap :)
you sound like one or arsenal's finest supporters ... keep it up ... they might give you a gift voucher into a clinic or something :)

ogsimon 05-03-2003, 11:08:AM it was a joke man. i was just saying that "in my opinion wiltord is not a world class right midfielder and to break teams down more often, we need someone more creative out there and b more direct. If u were to watch wiltord as an arsenal supporter, he can b so fustrating
wiltord is not creative :|
news to me :|
ogsimon 05-03-2003, 11:17:AM yeah. if u are watching arsenal week in week out, especially in the champions league. it just my opinion but pennant could do a good job for arsenal on the right and has a great cross on him.
