1-0 to united after a 13th minute goal by becks (H)
United missed many chances and giggsy hit the post with a faboulous shot.. but oh well... its 3 points:hump:
Villa also had their chances but couldnt convert them and barthez produced some excellent saves.
So the difference between utd and arsenal now is 2 points :mrpimp:

the downward spiral for villa continues............i still think they have a strong chance of being relegated this season, just look @ their remaining fixtures to see why i feel this way. the football theyve played since graham taylor took over has sucked to say the least, and all of the good players have either left or arent getting a game. my biggest fear of birmingham playing in the prem, while were in d1 may be realised still.:(

VILLA TILL I DIE! (OR UNTIL ELLIS QUITS AND APPOINTS ANSELL AS HIS SUCCESSOR)

if u look at the result it is a gr8 one at this stage of the season especially with arsenal losing. it's that time of the year when(for the big teams) u call a loss a 'drop of 3 points'. but in terms of performance it wasn't one that would build a lot of confidence.:(
anyway.... i'll take it gladly:)

I heard Beckham had a ton of chances in the first half. Did United just totally dominate the game both halves?

if i remember correctly, Becks has at least 3 clear chances in the first half, luckily, he managed to convert one of them into a goal:D

but to be frank, from what i have seen the game today, i dare not say we totally dominated the game, neither on shots on goal nor possession. imo we played very poorly today, all we have are long balls and long balls. the difference between us and Villa today is we have a bit more luck and a better goalie. Barthez should be man of the match today.

but as long as it's another 3 points, as playmate said, i take it gladly.:mrpimp:

man united forever

The result was far more important than the performance today. 'Nuff said.

Becks are free on two occasions....If only Ruud lay him the ball rather than strike it awfully,,

Villa's lack of finnishing gave Man U the win, along with a few fine saves from Barthez. Vassel should have put that breakaway chance in the net but he hit it too close to Barthez.
But, a win is a win. :D
Giggs was great I thought. Set up Becks for the goal, and hit the bars on a free kick.

They shouldn't take Fulham lightly, yes, they have bigger and better opposition after that, but as we have seen, they can lose to the likes of Bolton, at old trafford no less... you should just hope they don't take Fulham for pushovers.

we take no one as pushovers. that's clear from what the manager says repeatedly these days - there are no easy games in the league anymore. i remember he gave respect to even WBA at the start of the season.
the coming weeks will be a huge mental and importantly physical ordeal 4 the players. hope they come thru with success.

Arsenal had a huge mental and obviously points advantage just one match ago but even though we didn't perform as we should have done against Villa we have the psychological edge over Arsenal at the moment.
However, being realistic, I think that Arsenal will end up with the title. I obviously hope I'm wrong...it will be close, it might even come down to goal difference (which if the case Arsenal have a fair advantage over us)

it's still gonna be very hard to overcome arsenal. we have a much tougher run home than them. looks like the fixture at highbury will be the decider, unless one of the two stuffs up before hand

i've kept really quiet, but you can tell arsene wenger, we are still in this title race and they gotta go to villa and get something and i tell ya, i'd luv it if we beat em, luv it ;) :crazyboy:

All to play for now but United have the toughest run in of the top 3 teams. Wins in our next 4 EPL games will set us up nicely though.

3pts is what was called for but it was a far from vintage United performance and had we been playing against a team that had a better strike ratio than Villa it could have been a different story. But we weren't, so it's academic.

I see the matches against Liverpool and Newcastle as the deciders. 2 wins there... Liverpool play the style of football that United find difficult to break down and Newcastle have been collosal at home this season... 2 wins there and it could set us up nicely for the game against Arsenal confidence wise, just as it did at the turn of December.

Barthez looks like the keeper we bought and not the player of last season. I'd say he's looked like that all season long.

Yeah Barthez is playing class this season.

Great result for United given that Arsenal lost, but it wasn't that good a performance.

United did have their chances but their possession was poor, and build up play wasn't all that great. The defence kept a clean sheet but were frequently sliced open by a Villa side who are worrying about relegation. Not good enough.

Still, a win is a win and United will have to grind out more results in the coming weeks. After Fulham, Liverpool, Newastle and Arsenal will all play United and a lot could be decided over those three games. If United can get 9 points out of 9 in those three then I can see them winning the title, if not, it would be very difficult unless Arsenal slip up again.
