I just picked up Scholes off the free market (w00t! A competent player!...I probably can't afford :o) and that pretty much put the final nail of one of my subs. I don't know what to do with him. It costs points to discard him (more than to keep him?...probably not) and there doesn't seem to be an option to trade him. I take it the cost to discard a player varies depending on how many years he has left on his contract and his salary. So if I discard him I pay a lump some put have a lower point cost per game?
I'd much rather have another team pay to take him off my hands...but he kinda sucks :p
BTW, are there injuries in Master League? I've yet to have a scratch (only 5 or 6 games in, though).

Only have had minor injuries and am in season 5. Given out serious ones but thats it. I cut players after buying new players to even out my roster and pay.

Well, I'm doing it during the season, but I imagine the menu is no different after the season.
This is in the Masters League (pretty sure you can't do it outside of that league). It is under "Negotiations" under the Team Management option. The manual details how to go about it.
Hope that helps :)
EDIT: Wait a sec, you're asking about the "free market" bit. Oops :)
That means a player doesn't belong to another team. You can tell because their Points cost is in White. I find those players in the National Clubs. From what I understand, you do not have to pay transfer fees for them. Big advantage when you're starting out.

In Negotiations... Go to Apply
Go through all of the NATIONAL TEAMS 1st... any player in white is a FREE player. There is also a set of Open market players at the end of the flag list. Any players that you create will be at the very end of it all.
But as Decado said... it is all in the manual. The interface is pretty difficult until you get used to it.
