Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in Cristian Chivu, the classy Romanian centre-back who impressed for Ajax against the Gunners in two recent Champions League games.

According to reports, both Real and a clutch of Serie A clubs have become nervous about Arsenal's apparent interest.

Arsenal dont have a lot of depth in central defense and would be a good signing. Replacement for Keown?

Never trust news on Arsenal when it comes to transfers from Ajax. I have read reports saying they will buy Mido,De Jong, Vaart,Meyde,Ibrahimovic, and Chivu...........thats almost a team there.

They certainly need a defender though. Cygan is just terrible, Keown is amazing, but unfortuantly, he is well past his best.

The most rumors came from Madrid. But chivu himself said he'd probably stay with koeman another year, well it's good for Ajax, but even better for his development. I have to say, Arsenal would be the worst choice. Roma? Maybe. We'll see.

I happen to think Arsenal should stick with Cygan in the centre alongside Campbell.

He just needs time to properly adjust to the Arsenal style of play then he will be able to show his full potential, and we are already seeing glimpses of what he can do with the current run he is having in the team.

Pires has backed Cygan (maybe cause he's french), but he's shown improvement...a new defender would be a good buy for us, as we are stacked everywhere with backups, except at the back, when Cole is hurt Gio (Mid.) must play there, so we should really look into this.

They wont be able to afford Chivu... Arsenal have a budget of 10mil each season until they finish their new stadium... It's costing more than they planned apparantly.
