Name 6 players who have won the European Cup/Champions' League who have played for one of the two Edinburgh clubs, Hearts or Hibs?

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

PhiLLer
24-04-2003, 04:25:PM
Well ex-Hearts player Dave Mackay helped Spurs to the European Cup Winners final in which they beat Athletico Madrid I think but he didn't play in the actual final so I don't know whether that counts...

jackie4
24-04-2003, 04:45:PM
Nope!

That's not the European Cup

PhiLLer
24-04-2003, 04:57:PM
Oh aye, of course it isn't :)

Bobby Johnstone played for Hibs and won the European Cup with Celtic I think, didn't he?

jackie4
24-04-2003, 05:00:PM
Nope

PhiLLer
24-04-2003, 05:05:PM

jackie4

Wait til Denis comes on!

He'll probably get all six immediately

PhiLLer
24-04-2003, 05:09:PM
Wait, Jock Stein was manager at Hibs for a short while before becoming the manager of Celtic and winning the european cup with them. Does that count?

jackie4

Good Try but no cigar!

jackie4

You want a hint philler?

One of them is one of the greatest footballers of all time!

PhiLLer
24-04-2003, 10:03:PM
Of course, how could I not know that. George Best who had a brief spell at Hibs after leaving Manutd. Oh, how could I forget:)

Hey, can I post my trivia too ?
Who was rejected by West Ham when he was only 14, and with his club ( as a trainee ) come to London to have a trial ?

Hint : he used to be the Serie A top scorer.

No, guys. The idea of these threads is you answer the question before asking another one. The guy who gets the question right gets to ask a question. Otherwise the threads become a mess and you have like 8 questions going on at once and it just dies. :kader:

No man, if I tell you what year or season you will know for sure. Allright then I`ll give you the answer, it was Andriy Shevchenko. When he was 14, he along with his teammate from Dynamo Kiev football academy, went to London to have a friendly match with West Ham junior squad. Sheva was told that he should also give a try to take a trial at West Ham. Unfortunately, West Ham talent scout back then rejected him, because he was to skinny.

Is Franck Sauzee one?

jackie4
26-04-2003, 03:20:PM
Sauzee is correctomundo

2 down 4 to go

Digitarius
26-04-2003, 03:22:PM
Are they fairly recent (i.e. post-90s)? If they're not, I doubt if I can get it.

I thought about Paul Lambert but I don't think he ever played for the Edinburgh clubs.

jackie4
26-04-2003, 03:25:PM
none of the other 4 are recent.

at least now you know that only 1 of the 6 played for Hearts

i thought 3 of the missing 4 might have been got very quickly but obviously not. the other one is very difficult unless you are about my age (31 in 3 weeks time).

jackie4

Give up?

I'll give the answers at 3 oclock BST this afternoon

jackie4
26-04-2003, 06:41:PM
Ok the answers are:

HIBS:

Ronnie Simpson: Celtic 1967
Bertie Auld: Celtic 1967
George Best: Manchester United 1968
Des Bremner: Aston Villa 1982
Franck Sauzee Marseille 1993

HEARTS:

Willie Wallace Celtic 1967

Surely all you geniuses out there can come up with better ones than that.

andriy shevchenko.

Digitarius

Andriy Shevchenko has never scored in the Premiership.

And own goals don't count, so that rules out Frank Sinclair and Tony Adams.
