i just read this on the Juventus official site.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The innovative 'silver goal' ruling introduced by UEFA will make its debut at the UEFA Cup final. The system will also be used at the UEFA Champions League final in Manchester on 28 May.

It has been launched by European football's governing body after widespread consultations with the football community, and replaces the sudden-death golden goal system that has been in force for the past few seasons.

Under the 'silver goal' ruling, if the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup finals end in a draw after 90 minutes, a first 15 minutes of extra time will be played. If one team is in the lead at the end of the 15 minutes, that team will be declared the winners of the match.

If the two teams are still level after 15 minutes of extra time, a second 15-minute period will be played. If the result remains deadlocked at the end of the second period of extra time, a penalty shoot-out will determine the winners.

"It doesn’t change a lot – said Nedved – in the overtime everything can happened. I liked the Golden Gol; but for me it’s the same. In this way there will be a more chance than before to maintain alive the match”.

==============================================

not a terribly bad idea. but what do you other football fanatics think. i love it.

The golden goal was a shambles. It sounded like a good idea at the time, but I think it was just an attempt to Americanise the game to get some audience over there. It's proven that it just doesn't work that well in football, it either makes teams play defensively or just gives trophies to teams who could have just had a lucky break without giving the opposition a chance to get back.

I think this silver goal is a good compromise (sp?). Teams that have made a mistake get a chance to make amends.

At least FIFA have made one good decision this year. That's probably their quota though.

It'll get a mixed reaction. It benifits teams that are bette at defending, but hurts attacking sides in a way.

Golden goal benefits the defending team because they could snatch a win out of their only break of the game. This benefits the attacking team more I think, and would encourage teams to go out and get the win, unlikely gg which encouraged teams not to lose on a mistake.

its not much of a change... but teams would like to get the match over with before extra time...

no

i'd rather score a golden goal than score an awesome goal in extra time and see my defence **** up twice then get knocked out..

how about away goal ruling...away score and the home must score two to win...only for finals....

You mean UEFA's decision?

FIFA still have the Golden Goal as a permanent decider.

yeah i agree with the latter. i mean it would be rediculous to have 2 legged finals.

Worth a try I suppose. Not too keen on it though.
