i'll post Mexico's squad as soon as i know it, either that or the squad against Brazil is the same one for this game.
voetballiefhebb 30-04-2003, 12:50:AM When is the friendly scheduled for?
Bobby 30-04-2003, 12:55:AM He said May 8th
That squad looks pretty good to me.
voetballiefhebb 30-04-2003, 12:59:AM :$ I knew that.
I say 2-2.
Where is my man Agoos? Finally hang up his boots? :)
Bobby 30-04-2003, 01:01:AM Prolly hurt.
voetballiefhebb 30-04-2003, 01:06:AM You serious? You think he would have been picked if he was available? :o
I watch MLS every now and then. Lat year, it was either Wolff or Mathis, cleared the ball off of the line with what seemed like a goal, but he got his head behind it and actually dived and headered it off the line. That was probably the most impressive highlight yet. Go San Jose. :D
Caponedawg 30-04-2003, 04:14:AM Ah Cobi got called up. That's odd. Just by looking at this roster I guess we'd go with
G: Howard
D: Frankie Hejduk
D: Richard Mulrooney
D: Eddie Pope
D: Carlos Bocanegra
M: Pablo Mastroeni
M: Chris Armas
M: Bobby Convey
M: Run DMB
F: Landon Donovan
F: Brian McBride
Run DMB 30-04-2003, 06:19:AM Anyone else surprised that we're going with an MLS-only squad for the greatest national team rivalry on the North American continent?
Here's my starting line-up:
Howard
Hejduk
Pope
Califf
Bocanegra
Beasley
Armas
Donovan
Jones
Mathis
McBride
Bring on Adin for Howard, Klein for Jones, Mastroeni for Armas at halftime. Take McBride out and bring Donovan up top; put Stewart at attacking mid. Bring Convey on for a defender in the second half if we're trailing.
Bobby 30-04-2003, 06:26:AM he should've tried to get Keller or Freidel

Not really. It's a friendly.
Jeff Agoos never should have played this great sport EVER. He's a disgrace to any 5 year old who has ever put on a pair of boots only to hang them up for American Football. I mean, the Fiji national team would be embarassed to field this guy.

I know it's a friendly, but when its a rivalry like this it allways means something. There will be nothing "friendly" about what we'll see on the field.
Oh that reminds me... Agoos isn't injured or anything, he just wasn't called up. As far as I know he's played every game for San Jose this season. No own goals yet, but he's had Pat Onstad to do that for him. :D
If you haven't seen Onstad's own goal:

Funniest OG I've seen yet.
Manwithdaplan 30-04-2003, 06:48:AM Where is OBrien?? He's the best player on the US team, in my opinion.
And also, GO HOLLAND! WE WILL PUNK PORTUGAL!:rockman:

It's an MLS-only squad. He was called up for the Venezuela friendly a few weeks ago.

I'm sure a lot of Blackburn fans will disagree with you on that one. ;)
But yea, O'Brien is definetly one of our best players. Good luck to Holland. (H) (Y)
Caponedawg 30-04-2003, 08:20:AM Just noticed something, NO EDSON BUDDLE!! He's becoming one of my favs. PLAY HIM!
xxxFLYERxxx 30-04-2003, 08:29:AM and Taylor Twellman
PScott 30-04-2003, 09:38:AM Edson Buddle is hurt and Twellman has been called up numerous times only to disappoint.
People have begun to compare Twellman to Kreis in the fact that they are great in MLS, but just dont cut it internationally. Its a shame really.:kader:

Yeah I really hope he doesn't turn into the next Jason Kreis. When did Kreis even get a cap for the NT? Must've been years ago. :(
Shame about Buddle's injury, I really wanted to see him play in this game.
FuriousGeorge 01-05-2003, 02:06:AM The US vs Mexico games happen so often ('cause of the money) that they aren't that big of a deal unless it is qualifying or a tournament.
It is rare to see a US/Mexico full strength match.
GO USA!
GO MEXICO!

I beg to differ. YOu better believe this will be a big deal. This is the first meeting since the 2-0 thrashing in the WC second round stage. I bet that's fresh on the minds of the Mexican players and fans. I'm sure they're getting ready to flock to Houston as we speak. This will be a HEATED game, the passion in the stands will be wild, and the players will give it their all. No matter the occasion, Mexico absolutely hates to lose to us.

Caponedawg 01-05-2003, 05:12:AM Reports say that over 45,000 tickets have arleady been sold, but they were expensive as fu4^@. $150, $75, $60, and $50 are now all sold out.

Dayam... pretty good for a friendly. :brow:
EDIT: just noticed, this is my 666th post. :wootman:
Hopefully not a bad omen for the game. ;)
FuriousGeorge 03-05-2003, 12:15:AM As I said... The teams mainly play these games in order to make money. They try and get all the people psyched up with funny promotional names Like for this one it is "La Revancha en La Cancha" pretty reminiscent of "the Thrilla in Manilla".
The Fans love to see these games... I love to watch them. I always call my family (1/2 is in Mexico) to laugh whenever the US scores... Next time I go down we will spend at least an hour in a cantina slurring and carrying on about the game.
BUT... If you take a look historically at the rosters... the teams usually use the USA/Mexico games to test players and strategies in very new ways. Our teams know eachother better than almost any other 2 national sides. We play a ton of games with each other. So it makes for a perfect controlled testing environment.
On the Pitch... It is always a hot game. The teams never play half way. But the coaches often play with under-powered teams
