. . . about the youth development policy in Italy. I just saw Miccoli today, a Perugia player loaned from Juve. He`s been exceptional this season, but can anyone guarantee that he is going to be a Juventus player next season ? Well, from my experience Juve will probably loan him again next season, and the season after next, and again until suddenly he end up in a relegating battling team somewhere in England when he is 30 ( hope that won`t happen tough . . . ).

But the fact is, why is big Italian clubs often get biased by foreigners nowadays ? Why do they always prefer someone from Dutch, Argentina, Brazil, etc to be their starting eleven players, and most of them are around 26 - 28 ? It seems like there`s no chance at all for talented Italian youngsters to gain top level football experiences. If stuff like this still happens in the future, I don`t think we will see any new Roberto Baggio, del Piero, etc in the future. There`s another example, Brighi, he is very good last season, but where is he now ? Or Baiocco, Juve bought him and they say how talented he is, but it seems they don`t have the confidence to rotate him with Davids. From another team we got Inter Milan, Ventola is an example of how a young Italian forward talent is wasted on the bench for seasons.

Different things happen to youth players in Holland or England. They probably got loaned first, but when they comeback the clubs will give them the chance to prove themself. In Italy, it seems like the club doesn`t want or too afraid to give those talents a chance. They are too afraid of loosing. Italy NT often got critics for their lact of creativity in midfield, but how come anyone expect a creative Italian playmaker when most clubs in Italy prefer Brazilian, Portuguese, Czech, French as their playmaker ? Like I said, I don`t understand the point of loaning your players to smaller clubs to gain experience, but when they come back, they`re just simply re-loaned back or dumped . . .

Well if I was managing Manchester United, and had a bunch of 17-18 year olds, they would be on loan. The fact is, Juve have a world class squad. Now it won't be too hard when you are surrounded by 10 world class players.

A players true class is shown when they play amazing in a smaller team. Hence the reason I chose Beattie ahead of RvN in my dream team. Beattie is not surrounded by Becks, Giggs, Veron, Keane, Scholes...

The point of it all is, if the players go on loan to a smaller club, and they shine, then they are worth playing in your team. If not, then keep loaning them out. If I was Moyes, I would have Rooney in division 1 playing on loan, show him the ropes, then when he returns, get Big Dunc to teach him more. Everton need an experienced striker to partner Rooney at some time - Batigol would be perfect to teach him the tricks of the trade.

Yeah, that`s the way it should go. But not in Italy, Brighi played excellent last season, but only to be loaned back. Maresca played fairly good too, but somehow I don`t think Lippi will trust him next season, same goes to Miccoli, despite he made his first cap for Italy this season. I mean you can`t never be able to develop into world class player unless the club give you the chance to do so. In Italy, every new season is always started with big signings of foreigners that close the door for youth players to play.

But Brighi is getting first team football at Parma. At Juve (Is Thuram still being played and moaning about right back or did Lippi move him to centre back?) he may not get football week in, week out.Bring them up slowly. Don't rush. One more season will confirm if last season Brighi just had a good season. Same with Beattie. I doubt anyone will purchase him this summer, if he does well next season, then the clubs will be flashing the money for his services.

Well, Inter brought up Ventola very, very slowly then ;)

Never read or heard about it, maybe because he thinks he has enough of always being second choice despite he was very good during his U-21 days. He even lost his place to a 17 year old Martins.

Miccoli is sure to play for Juve next season. If he had been playing for Juve he would rpobably not have got as many starts and the chance to shine. He has proved his mettle and has a few Azzurri caps already.

Italy's youth policy is fine. Look at the under 19 team...they are fantastic ! Playing at Perugia and the likes doesn't mean rejection... it just to give players a chance to PLAY. Only 11 can play for a team and its not worth gambling on a 19 or 20 year old to take a club to glory. Hence they are loaned, watched and given time to prove themselves.

Look at Cassano for instance. Great player, unquestionable talent - Bad attitude. He isn't mature enough to play week in and week out.

Juve loaned both Blasi and Miccoli and are getting both back for the next season.

How could you possibly advocate rotating some 19 year old with Davids. That's crazy, Davids is not only the best defensive mid in the world, but probably the best midfielder in the world. He always outshined Zidane when they were both at Juve.

I dont agree with you Hans.
Miccoli will be with Juve and be the natural sub for Del Piero, and can even play as attacking mid when needed. He will play often next year.

Blasi will be in the squad and will replace older players like Conte, who I think will leave Juve.

Brighi has not been allowed to play in his natural position at Parma and has not had a good season. We'll see how where he plays next year.

By loaning the prospects they get more playing time at a high level, which I feel is better than keeping the player on the bench at the big clubs.

Help?

The story about aving players to play on loan for their main part of the career. May be true. And one of the examples is Adriano from Inter, but i doubt that hewould finish in relegation team when he is 30.

ventola has been injured this season.

miccoli returns to juve next season.

davids is one of the best dm's in the world, and shouldnt be rotated with any 19 year old

its better for young players to play for a club battling from relegation than to play for a u19's team
