Who here has been the victim of racism of any level? From mild taunt to serious dilemma, has it happened to you?

If so, what happened and what did you do?

Me. Some of you have already read (Luis, Hugo, Dragan, Rhizome) my case in another thread.

It began when Mrs Pauline Hanson (Independent Party)
that started to make sensitive comments towards Asians coming to Australia alot.

It happened when I was back to home in a train public transporation, shouted, "You are ****ing Asian, Go HOME !!" I was so scared ! There were 4 or 5, I think. I couldn't move my body, praying nothing happened to me. Well, luckily they were couple Asians (Vietnamese, I guess, since they can speak English fluently) on board too, trying to protect me.

Well, everything seemed okay afterward, no fighting between them on board, I just went off the train in one place, stucked there for the whole 1 hr. I was crying, don't know what to do, can't report to anyone because I was so damn SCARED.

And, no I didn't report to any police officers at that time.

I have a similar story: my sister was on a bus in Newton, Sydney travelling to work. An arab boarded the bus (on Sept 15th or 16th 2001 during all the histeria that was going on) it was obvious he was arab had the turbin on his head. - He said he wanted to go to Glebe Island. The bus driver ignored him after about 10minutes an asian lady stood up and told the Arab man "Go home, you ****ing terrorist."

Actually I have been racially abused once in my own damn country. I'm as dutch as anyone can possibly be. I'm white, eat pancakes (waffles if you like Dragan :crazyboy:.) and had a typical dutch upbringing. When I was in the train once a few marrocan kids, aged 18 or so started abusing me. Calling me a christian dog, a zionist and more of that ****.

Here everyone's really cool about me being Polish :D I guess it's sort of exotic, so people ask me about life in PL a lot, chicks dig the Polish accent ;)

But just between my friends we racially insult each other :wootman: Like taking the piss of 'Hispanic border hoppers', 'Asian riceboys', or 'Mid Eastern bombers' and all the stereotypical ghetto stuff about blacks :p Like in my Eng. class that Korean and Syrian dude always give each other so much **** :junior: That's all for laughs though, and I know that neither of them mean it...

I've had just about everything....from sand nigger to terrorist to Osama..Saddam....anthrax man....everything.

In holland there's a very general racism against muslims...marrocans and turkish people are seen as troublemakers but the Dutch are problemmakers themselves, they love to blame it on the foreigner. last year there was this politican, called pim forutyn, who wanted to close the country for muslims. very racist of course but whatever. i left before that guy gained a reputation, holland is ****ed up. but the guy got shot.

after 9/11 it got worse here...yesterday...my friend's car was blocking the street, this white guy (with an american flag and british flag; i wonder why  ) started yelling, so I'm "Chill dude" and he said to hurry up, so i gave him this look. he said "what? where's ya passport" i'm like "**** you bitchass, ****ing racist" .....and he raced by and called out "immigrant" i told my friend to go after him and take his license number or whatever but dude got away. and thats just yesterday.

now u wanna tell me racism doesnt exist? very funny.

there's no difference between jokes and racism. it's both racism! deal with yourself. you make jokes about asians or blacks, i make jokes about you.

::shinji::
15-05-2003, 03:10:AM
I find that most people out there are somewhat racist to varying degrees, and not just white people either. (..but especially 'white' people)

What I've noticed to be even more disturbing is that people seem to be bolder and less inhibited about being racist in public. I notice this almost everyday at work, even dealing with clients who don't even know me have no hesitation about making little racial jokes or comments during small talk..

umm.. theres quite a big difference... I would never say anything to someone I don't know very well or meet for the first time; even if someone means it only as a joke it's uncalled for and shouldn't happen... But if I do it to a friend, and not around people who might get offended, then I think it's fine... I will never be the first one to make a bigot comment though, but even if someone says something to me... I don't really care, I just hit them back :junior: I don't ever mean it, and I don't they don't either... it's all good (C)

here's one, you decide:

of course the jokes are racist... that's the point. But that doesn't mean I am racist, unless I really mean it. I don't know you well enough, so I won't joke with you like that... but among my friends, I know that no one takes any offence.

racist jokes nearly always backfire - no matter how cautious you are. I had a greek friend and now I dont - you get the picture.

To Vagegast: I have read alot of the racism problems in holland - its not surprising especially when you read about what PSV, Ajax or yes even Feyenoord fans say or do.

Racism in sport shouldn't exist - hell racism at all shouldn't exist, one person said dont worry well all asimilate into one race one day, however all of us wont be alive if and when it happens.

zul-aid: Yes, Ajax has a Jewish influence, they carry Israeli flags, one of the founders was jewish, i'm not sure exactly, but now @ games against feyenoord you see this:

you know, if you believe the scientists, the first people were black. so according to them we're all black. how'd some become white? dunno. ask the people who know. :)

You mean to tell me Joe that when someone like the KKK kills a black kid thats not racism - thats just population control.

After reading your article joe I saw this:

"Race is real in a political, social sense, but it's not biological," said Alan Templeton, a population biologist at Washington University in St. Louis.

Thats what we are discussing, socially their are races because people cannot see how a white man is seen to be the same as a black man - how Malcom X could be the same as President Bush or Osama to Colin Powell.

Yes race does exist, but maybe/ maybe not biological. - the article didnt support your argument which had nothing to do with this debate - race isnt racism as such.

Feyenoord fans are funny, going back to the picture below. The only reason I support them is because of the represent the working class region of Rotterdam and the country, but also im a fan of Emerton and Van Hoojidonk.

Racism exist - I dont deny that feyenoord fans are racist - that comes with the territory I guess - but racism does exist in football, mostly in the English and Dutch league.

You know I got the same experience. I am a native Indonesian but ever since I was a kid I went to Christian schools which are dominated by Chinese ethnic. So I talk, act even look kinda Chinese. So some times ago, I was driving my old VW Beetle car, and I passed by a public school which was dominated by native ethnic, a stupid guy suddenly crossed the road without even looking at me. So I push the horn, it was so hard, that every single native ethnic student there yell at me ( translated from Indonesian language ) : "YOU ****IN` CHINESE !!!!!! GO **** WITH PIGS !!!!!", well I drove away from the scene to avoid more problems. Anyway, everytime I remember that it`s kinda funny . . .

Well, I guess not everyone can coupe racist comments. It`s not everyone`s type of joke. Me and my friends just wanna show that despite the race difference we have, we are still able to be friends and make an ironic joke out of it. :D
