DEPORTIVO PRESENT EISENMAN STADIUM (From Deportivo-La-Coruna.com)
16th May 2003 -- President Lendoiro of Deportivo presented in La Coruña on Thursday "the most beautiful of the world", according to his own words. The project, designed by famous American architect Peter Eisenman, would cost 141 million Euro to make it a reality. Lendoiro was accompanied when presenting it by Spaniard Carlos Seaone, a collaborator with Eisenman.
The new stadium, scheduled to occupy the current Riazor ground and some more, would contain place for 36.000 visitors, although this would be only 1.500 more than the actual Riazor stadium can take. Besides the stadium the ground would also include a museum of Deportivo, a hotel, restaurants, 3600 parking places, a swimming pool, a gym, a squash centre, a shopping centre etc.
"It would be the most beautiful stadium of the world because at no other place one could see a nice play on the pitch in the same view as waves rolling onto the beach," Lendoiro mentioned. He added that Deportivo are still waiting to talk about it to mayor Vázquez of La Coruña. "But I expect that at the end we can build this new Riazor stadium." Deportivo is dependent on the council, not only for the money, but also because a part of the ground to be used is still property of the city.
Architect Peter Eisenman (born in New Jersey, 1932) is considered to be among the five best architects of the world, a kind of a Pele in designing. He's situated in the theory of the deconstructivism, something which inspired him to make the Guggenheim in Bilbao.
In the 1960s Eisenman became a football supporter when he lived in Europe. At that time he lived in England and used to see the matches of Tottenham Hotspur. After building de Cidade da Cultura de Santiago, he started to see matches in Riazor and to follow Deportivo. Since then he has become a supporter and tries to combine his visits to Galicia with a match of Deportivo.
Eisenman himself also commented on the project, in a piece written at canaldeportivo.com. The architect wrote that, among others, "the stadium could serve a model for urban development. And Deportivo is among the ten best clubs of Europe, but their actual stadium isn't sufficient for their status. And it's not the size of a stadium that matters, but the design and the installations to generate income."

Will miss the old stadium but the new one will be one of the best in the world apparently! Can't argue with that!
Here are some pictures of the planned stadium:
