View Full Version : Totti may leave Roma
northstar 22-05-2003, 06:40:AM http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/may21g.html
Francesco Totti has hinted at a move abroad in order to win trophies after Roma’s mauling in the Coppa Italia, but the club confirms Fabio Capello.
“Roma are my life,” said the lifelong fan, “but if I was to leave then I’d like to play for Real Madrid. It’s a club with a great deal of history and allure.”
The Italian international was once tipped to be a European Player of the Year winner, but ends the season empty handed following a 4-1 Coppa Italia Final defeat to Milan.
“Playing for Roma definitely puts me at a disadvantage in the race for awards. If I had played the same way with a Madrid shirt then I would have already lifted the Golden Ball.”
This campaign has been particularly harsh for Totti. Struggling with injuries, he still managed to score crucial Champions’ League goals for wins at Real Madrid and Valencia.
The creative midfielder, a Roma youth product, has always performed well on Spanish soil and has many fans in that country.
With UEFA Cup football the most he can hope for with the club next year – only achieved as probable Coppa winners Milan are already qualified for the Champions’ League – it is unlikely Totti will make his mark on the European stage.
“I would love to play for important trophies,” he continued, “and this year I would have given the Golden Ball to either Raul or Ronaldo. I’d favour the Spaniard, as he earned more with club than country over the whole year.”
Totti also admitted problems with Coach Fabio Capello. “We had our issues,” he concluded, “but always sorted them out within the dressing room walls.”
Capello is under fire after last night’s 4-1 demolition at the hands of a second string Milan outfit.
Roma’s shares crumbled on the stock market this morning and director of sport Franco Baldini was forced to reassure investors.
“We want to continue our experience with a Coach who won the Scudetto one year and finished second the next,” he insisted.
“The team does not need to be torn apart and started again. We only need to rediscover our calm and improve a few areas.”
Their first new buy is Olivier Dacourt, but confusion reigns over the state of play. On Tuesday evening many Italian sources reported that Roma had officially confirmed a £3.3m deal to make his move permanent.
However, this afternoon the official Leeds United website pointed out there was no agreement with the Giallorossi.
“Both clubs are working to tie up the ‘small’ details before the transfer can go through,” noted the Elland Road club. “It is expected Dacourt will officially sign for Roma before the end of the week.”
The French midfielder, who arrived on loan in January, has already agreed personal terms for a four-year contract.

Frustration from Totti more than anything IMO. Juve do need an attacking mid though. :D (H)
voetballiefhebb 22-05-2003, 06:46:AM Channel 4 making up bull**** because they failed to get the contract to air Serie A games. :D
I doubt it would go ahead yet, if so though, not for another season at least.
If he does, he would serve Arsenal well *Cough*CHEATS*Cough* Saying that, Italians normally piss off to La Liga. In rare cases Italians go to the Premiership.
tottiiii 22-05-2003, 06:46:AM channel 4 blows things way out of hand....this is nothing new.....and he would definitly not go to Juve if he was to leave anyway....but he wont for some time....
tottiiii 22-05-2003, 06:47:AM maybe he will go to west ham...hahahaha
ko_Totti 22-05-2003, 06:52:AM I knew it.
If I was Totti I would get sick of it also, Roma are doing horrible this season. 1-4, thats just embarassing.
Hmm... I would love to see Totti play for Manchester United, maybe take the spot of Keane or be a forward next to RVN. Real Madrid sounds good also, but they got too many star players already; he can play next to Zidane though. Juventus? neh..... I doubt he would like to join another team in Serie A. I think he just wants to play in a diff. country.
What team do you guys think will Totti fit in the most?

No way.
I have a Roma **** with Totti's name and no. on the back. Now I used to be a keen admirer of his skills. In the 2001 season, he was inspirational. Ever since he started to cheat, I have refused to wear the shirt, I don't want to follow a cheat.
As for ko_totti. Valencia. I think Carew, Totti and Aimar would be very good.
People will say United or Arsenal, but the premiership is too physical for a pansy who seems to go down like he's been popped full of lead under the slightest touch.

He wouldn't do well at Arsenal....
....does he speak french? :crazyboy:
voetballiefhebb 22-05-2003, 06:58:AM Judging by some of his language aimed towards officials at the world cup, Yes Bobby. I think he does. :D
ko_Totti 22-05-2003, 07:02:AM Either Totti leaves or Roma buy some good players and start playing good like they use to.
The problem with Roma is that their defence sucks, midfielders are excellent, forwards are good.

Think Jeffers. Think Conceicao. It was even so severe, that in the CL against Arsenal, he was cheating so much with his dives, when he finally was fouled, he was not awarded the free kick. Then the world cup as well.
Sure he has the skills, but he is not professional.
I hope Henry does not go the same way. It's obvious what happened to him in the cup final. When Lundekvam held Henry back, Wenger knew if Henry had gone done, Arsenal would have had a penalty, and after been 1 man up for 88 minutes 30 seconds longer. Wenger obviously had a word at half time with him and said Look Thierry, we could have had it wrapped up after 30 seconds, in those cases go down. In the second half, he did. However, I liked a few excuses, my favourite was "His leg locked and he fell". I liked that one. :D
ko_Totti 22-05-2003, 07:17:AM I use to be a great Roma supporter, but after what happened last night I am just not happy with the team and if nothing changes next season I won't support the mighty ASR any longer.
GrObArCiNa 22-05-2003, 07:19:AM well said, well said. altough he is supposed to be Roma's superstar so you would suppose when Roma wins or loses he will be the first one to be praised/critisized... if anybody thinks a player should quit after one season u should take a look at NBA where K Garnett has lost in the first round of the playoffs for the last 7 years with the same team... and he is still coming back every year stronger and stronger. that is the will and strenght of a fighter and a player who wants to succeed... if more players were like that the world of sports would be much more competitive and fun to watch
voetballiefhebb 22-05-2003, 07:20:AM Hey hey hey! You're a bad fan! A sore loser. Stick with your club through thick and thin.
If you don't like the way the club is handled, protest against it by setting up petitions and sending them to somebody who deals with that kind of ****. The head of Roma's fan club. People like that. Don't change a team because you have under achieved.
I'm sticking with West Ham, even if it means the Ryman league.
You keep on with that kind of "If we don't win, then I don't support them" attitude, and it makes it obvious that you are a glory hunter who does not have AS Roma's interests at heart, but the trophies.
PM Yash. I am sure he would be over the moon to produce a Juventus signature for you.

guess its just a difference in opinion but he gets fouled a lot b/c of his ability....Dont bring up the world cup and call him a cheat...i saw the games he was not diving all over the place....although he can be dirty himself its nothing no other player doesnt do....a lot of it has to do with him being well known so everything is exploited and made bigger than it is....but again to each his own...im more concerned with Roma getting back to winning the league next year
it would be great, i want to see him playin in a different league, more offensive

wow ... a classic case of "i'm too big for this club"
if he was as great as he thinks he is we would know by now ... hes had a lot of exposure and over hype every time hes played in big games.
3m1n3m 22-05-2003, 06:36:PM Italy...Totti... World Cup... Italy-South Korea... Byron Moreno...
The Equatorian ref cheats a lot more than Totti, João Pinto and all those put together :rockman:
If Totti wants to leave, then he can do it, for all I care. As long as he doesn't bug Milan or Benfica, no prob :p
Ko_totti: you're showing the glory hunter spirit. I've been a Benfica fan since the first time I saw a football match, and after 9 years of not winning the Portuguese league, and 7 years of not winning ANYTHING, I'm getting more and more involved with the club. And supporting them every year that passes by. And I'm always in a hope of Benfica getting "there". (Although that doesn't make me anti-anyone. Yesterday, I supported FC Porto like I always do with Benfica)
The true fans are shown in the awful moments. Be a true fan, not a glory fan.
Cheers

well hes right....he should of won it in 2001 but they gave it to Owen....if he played for Madrid or Man Utd or even Juventus he would of won it without a doubt....he deserved it that year but he didnt get it....not that it really means much cause the award is all about politics anyway so **** it

You're supposed to stick up for your club when they are innocent. When they are guilty of cheating, and you protest their innocence, it makes you out to be nothing less than stupid.
Defoe will be the same. He's going to turn into a cheat.

Who told you I am a Roma fan?
I never said I was a Roma fan, I am just a supporter. I support all the Italian teams but Roma happen to be my favorite but it doesn't mean I am 'fan' of that team.
So flock off.
voetballiefhebb 23-05-2003, 02:20:AM Ho hum.

And you a moronic git, what you think b'cos you put defoe in it makes your argument credible?what b'cos he wants to leave your club after relegation now makes him a cheat or implies he'll be one(what sort of idiotic logic is that anyway?)?..did i not say against chelsea in previous post, im not protesting his innocence just saying get off the guys ****ing case. Makes me out to be less than stupid?......the ****,did you come up with that all by yourself you frustrated piece of ****.
antithesis 23-05-2003, 03:21:AM Whoa Jiggerman, you are behaving like a Milwall supporter, lol.
Give him a break, I don't know where he got the you are defending cheating theory to draw the inference, but have some empathy for him, you know what happened to his club.

I'm frustrated? I'm sitting here in stitches pissing my pants laughing.
From what I see, you're all pissed off because Arsenal's only consolation of the season was the Tea cup. Pardon me. FA cup.

Is there really any need to reply to this piece of crap, and i'm not even talking about the post. Btw there needs to be a similie reppin' disbelief here.
ko_Totti 23-05-2003, 03:46:AM Whats so funny?
BTW, you are the only loser here volleyball boy. You should go to court and judge everyone there, this is not the place to insult every person who doesn't agree with you and your idiotic logic.
Should of taken Geometry.
