View Full Version : Fifa2003 = C R A P

I have to apologize for those who think it’s a great game, but I’ve just been playing for a few hours today and now I remember why I put it away in disgust months ago.

I don’t think anyone can disagree with the statement that the gameplay is just terrible in FIFA2003. There are a lot of other things that are terrible, but for the moment I just want to concentrate on this aspect.

I’m sorry, but all the enthusiasm shown by members for the creation of faces and boots etc, cannot hide the fact that the game is really bad.
Not since FIFA97 did I feel like I had less control of the players in my team.

I’ll list just a few of the things that take away the feeling of control:
• Running or walking with the ball and changing direction – makes the turning circle on the Titanic look good
• Receiving a pass with the “lunge” motion takes about 2 seconds – during which time the other team takes the ball from you
• The lobbed pass seems like you are using a beach ball rather than a soccer ball – the ballooning effect makes the ball hang in the air
• It also takes about 2 seconds to get a lobbed pass away or take a shot at goal – I have been about 4 feet out of the goal keeper’s area when pressing the shoot button and still not made the shot by the time I had entered the 6 yard box.
• The runs of players off the ball don’t correct themselves for the pass – sometimes the ball will bounce off them rather than taking control of the pass
• The huge corrections of defenders who are tracking the opposition when the control is switched to them – suddenly allows the attacker 5 yards of head start
In addition to reducing the feeling of control, they are UNREALISTIC given the skill level of most professional footballers.

So, when talking to EA about 2004, please don’t let me hear you whine about whether or not a particular league exists or whether a team is included …

JUST GET THEM TO FIX THE GAMEPLAY FIRST!

Everything else can be handled by the talented folks who make the patches.

FIFA 2004 better be good. I'm not going to buy it if all we see is unrealistic play

I think we all hope that the "NEXT" game, the Fifa series correct this issues, but what about do it with this game , i mean, i pay for it, like many of us did to acquire a professional product, not a beta version (what i really believe IT IS)
I also believe that your list, among with other well known bugs (like the headers) , could be into A PETITION TO EASPORTS TO RELEASE A PATCH FOR FIFA 2003 that us, the fifacommunity we well deserve it.....
ive heard things like "does anyone know how to fix this?"....
well....i know the ones who can...
its the right solution, but i call for support to this idea
so u (whoever its reading this) what do u say?

I thought the problem was just me.
Damn game won't let you tackle the ball easily as the IA where they just put their foot out and get the ball. While you can press the tackle for a while. And you can hardly do a one touch shoot.

They also said the exact same thing before FIFA 2003 came out...

They made huge changes in gameplay from Fifa02 to 03, probably didnt have enough time to finish the game to as what they'd like due to all those changes. Fifa2004 should be a LOT better.

For all those saying "Konami is the best" etc... take it elsewhere, this is a Fifa forum, i for one dont come to the Fifa forums to read about Konami.

It beggars belief that some of you would attempt to deem worthless, a game that has initiated THOUSANDS of web sites all over the world dedicated to celebrating and enhancing a product that gives millions of people immeasurable pleasure.
Yes, the game is flawed, just like all the other footie simulations available out there, irrespective of the platform they were written for.
When I read that some arrogant idiot thinks you can't perform a one-button shot, it makes me wonder if they have played the game for longer than it took to pen their petulant little whinge to this forum.
Tackling, shooting, passing and dribbling can all be mastered with patience and practise.
If these techniques were easy, you people would be the first to complain (with your typically ululating grace) that the game was "too easy" and lacked depth. Your naive idea of the perfect game is one you can win easily but don't get bored with quickly.
Reality check - Hobby horse ****e is more likely.
The unrewarded individuals that make up the HUGE FIFA community have put the effort and time in to improve the gameplay, graphics and countless other features of FIFA 2003.
I for one have never considered sitting back, doing nothing and complaining to be much of a spectator sport.

exitthelemming: spot on. people who don't like the game shouldn't play it. there. happy? if you like winning eleven or iss best, just go ahead and play it without bothering other fifa fans about it. i personally prefer fifa 'cause the others are just too damn arcadey for my liking, and the amount of stuff you can modify in fifa makes it just impossible to resist.
so if you like fifa, play it and enjoy it. if you don't, play any other game and enjoy IT too! just don't come in here to piss and moan about it. 'nuff said.

Who`s moaning ? Who told anyone not to play FIFA ? I only saw that too many people here complained about 2003 gameplay, and so many people also complained and dissapointed that in 2004 EA put their focus more on teeth instead of gameplay reality. I don`t care wheter it`s EA or Konami, if one makes a better game I will praise it and will suggest everybody else to try it so they can have the same fun as I do, I`m not an EA hater or a Konami fanatic, I`m just being objective. I can`t believe you call yourself football fan when you buy a footie game to see wheter Ronaldo`s got his right teeth type. One shoot button from the air ? It`s a must for every footie game, as well as headers. Did EA gave us any of that. Nope. WE too arcadey ? Are you all serious ? It`s your opinion anyway. but old-school footie gamers knows what`s best. Teeth ??? Who gives a ****, I want a football game not a dentist game simulation.

Take it elsewhere, there's a whole forum just for this kind of arguement:

Why ? Why can`t anyone write about Konami here ? We were tryin` to get the message to EA that they`d better do something or else more of their fans movin` ships to Konami. People like me just try to put critics on them by comparing them to their rival so they ( hopefully ) encouraged to at least make a decent gameplay instead of concerning more on Beck`s left tatooed arm.

Look, I’m not saying you’re an asshole for liking the game (if you like it – that’s great), and I’m not saying that EA is crap (I liked FIFA2002 and FIFAWorldCup much better than 2003).

I’m just saying that the gameplay must be improved over more cosmetic aspects for 2004. I have bought the FIFA series since 97, so if I pay for it I think I should have the right to make (constructive) criticism. Also, don’t think that I haven’t given it a chance, as I have played it for countless hours (as the FIFA series is the best football sim for PC that I have played – notwithstanding this statement there is a lot of room for improvement).

From my point of view, the gameplay is much more important than the cosmetic. I think that FIFA2003 is fine as far as “eye-candy” is concerned, and would not be disappointed if the developers didn’t change anything with regard to appearance. The problem is that the game just doesn’t feel like football (some of the reasons mentioned above).

That’s the message I want to get across to EA and others (as I don’t appear to be alone in this): PLEASE IMPROVE THE GAMEPLAY!

Yes you're right, but we're not here to talk about pes/we, we are here to let EA know that every year they are loosing fans to konami because fifa lacks of gameplay and it doesnt play like soccer. I was also getting upset when i didn't own a PL2 to the WE/PES fans but I relized that fifa2003 was borring and same scripted gameplay over and over, luckily i owned a PL2 and bought WE6i and since than I havn't played fifa ****, and I won't play it untill EA does make a simulation soccer game. And also FIFA is arcade not WE/pes.
