Brief EA History:

In FIFA 2002, you couldn't do a couple of gameplay things including playing the World Cup Tournament(WTF) because EA wanted to milk the **** out of their crap title called 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP. Meaning, if you look carefully at some of the WC enhancements, one would have guessed that those implementations were meant for 2002 but were DELIBRATELY LEFT OUT so that they could milk..

Therefore, they're leaving a core component of FOOTBALL calle d CURLING so that people have a reason to buy a game which releases 6 months after 2003... Get a life EA

By the way EA, I heard from interviews the ball physics were greatly improved eh? Is that why curling is exempted? If so, then the ball physics suck ass cos it ain't ball physics if the ball can't fugging curl

P.S. TOPIC TITLE SHOULD'VE BEEN CURL not CURVE.. Really peeved just now

Well.. from what I understand from talking to Matt, they rewrote the physics engine last year when removing the ball from the players feet.. this year they are still working on that physics engine, and I guess they want to get it right before they start adding curls, which would create even more bugs.
Frankly I dont think is that bad this year, and if the gameplay in 2004 is much better, then I can deal without having the curl.

i am extremely disappointed that there is no curling in the game, i mean when u are on the left with henry going towards goal, u want to be able to curve the ball to the far corner in his trademark fashion. please tell me u can curl crosses, cus if u cant then that is gonna be plain dumb, improved ball physics LOL:kader:

OH well. The gameplay shouldnt be too bad, this times, if u believe what EA are saying, im sure if they have great AI that represent different teams abilities correctly, leading to online battles of tacticians, then im sure this will make up for no curling.

imo the shooting is not that bad this year, you have plenty of different places you can score from, and different angles.. just the animations and keeper AI is not that good.

you haven't even played yet.. the videos prove nothing - they don't count. Stop defending EA's horrible work cos it's just promoting them to slack off.. EA wants to equal WE? Easy. Emulate the Japanese hardworking spirit and stop bumming around

No way cos in 2003 WC mode you could only score from a few certain spots...

what fifa 2003?, na u could score from outside inside, etc, but i reckon there should have been more variety, eg headed goals volleys from crosses etc, make the game flow better

u can score from plenty of spots.. far post.. front post... normally people find 1 spot to score from and dont try for more.. but there are plenty of ways to score..

I think everyone agrees.. well.. not everyone cause there are people that only care about faces and graphic imrovement. That gameplay needs to be worked on, they seem to be working on it, they rewrote the engine from scratch in 2003.. and this year they claim to be working on things.. like adding the low shots and high ... so I will just wait to play the demo before making any final opinions.. but if the gameplay is playable enough I can deal without the curl

I agree valioso. What i want more than anything is for the game to be more challenging with unparelleled variety in terms of AI and animations

True. Thierry. the free kicks are poor. everyone loved them but i thought they were so unrealistic, basically u got the ball on the line and it went in 9/10 times. I like the fact that u can kick the ball in any position but i think u should be able to determine the power, and curve on the ball, and how low or high it goes like in pro evo

I dont think the free kicks are bad.. is the goalies AI that is bad,..

but there was no variety in the free kicks. U could only have power high, and soft and lofted. those r the only ones that come to mind. Even when u are 30-40 yards out all players seem able to test the keeper.

I wanna be able to chose the power on my free kicks. u should be able to do powerful curled shots and soft high shots that are based on accuracy. Dont u think that if they blended the pro evo and fifa free kicks together then it would be good Valioso

How come half the time on free kicks the wall is like 1 player and you dont have to even move anything. And yea goalie AI would help. When you line up the shot meter just right the goalie acts like he doesnt know where the ball is....retarded

I didnt say free kicks were perfect.. just that it wasnt a bad idea.. obviously it needs to be worked on..

I actually liked free kicks in 03. It's the only version where I can actually make a decent shot (besides 96...my favorite all-time). All the other one's i'd miss by a mile, even with a simple tap.....the pre-kick curves f***ed with my head. And i hated free kicks EVERYTIME until 03. I even turned off fouls in some games to deal with it

i really hate to say this but you should see WE's and Virtua Striker's freekick ;)

It makes Fifa03's golf freekick idea look so bad.

'course they're gonna leave out curling so they can add it in to the 2005 game and take your money.

guys stop whining on the PS2 version you can 'curl; the ball so get a ps2~:kader:

there is no curl.. on any versions.. EA admitted this... it may seem that it curls.. but is automatic..

I read on EA website that for example on PS2 version L1 will shoot high and L2 will shoot low in open play. but I dont know if theres a curl.

No curl... Pity those who don't have a 32d pad or uses their keyboard to play FIFA... I reckon at least 40% of FIFA players use 8D only... It's like making the game for 60% of the people while the other 40% suffer

maybe 40% of pc fifa players... but there is also ps2, xbox and gamecube.. analog pads have been around for a few years now.. is time to get with the times..

why buy a PC if you're gonna use a controller?

I criticize EA and fifa when I feel there is something to say, and konami and winning eleven the same.

I didnt say everyone owned a controller for a pc,but the game is also made for consoles, so they already come with analog so they just take advantage of that and whats easier if you have pc.. spend 30 bucks on a controller.. or 200 on a console?

I know u are just trying to save face for Konami only having 8 directions.

I love 2003 but its just too easy, I can win 5-0 against a decent team on World class with Tottenham, they need to make it more realistic, being forced to play possesion football and so on.

8 directions is better than 32 directions if you can't even make a game play realistically with 32 directions because you handicap others do you get it yet? Making the directions to 8 will allow more animations for players when turning shooting etc..

And although I'm not saving Konami's face(why should I they are releasing a great footie game) it's anytime better than you defending EA's mistakes. We all know EA has made horrible errors in 2003, and i'm just merely using Konami's WE as an analogy so that the EA Programmers can LEARN and UNDERSTAND what we want a footie game to be

Do we really want to go down the WE Vs. FIFA argument road again. By the time that FIFA 2003 was released last year 80% of this forum was dedicated to pointless arguments and name callling between people who primarily played either FIFA or WE. Most of us (myself included) got sucked into this at some point to the detriment of the forum in general. At the end of the day this is a FIFA forum, and if you really don't like the game then there is no need to be here, but I really don't see the need to call someone a fanboy or any other childish name simply because their perspective is different than your own.

Talking about Curving shots...
In real life my shots can not curve, couse i cannot play good. So why is it so much of the problemm in the game?:rolleyes:

because you're a crap player and that's why we pay $$ to watch players do stuff we can't. And if you do not believe me in saying that he is either a fanboy or wateva, check his other posts it really pisses a neutral of because whenever someone attempts to put the game down he replies by twisting their words. Sorry it's just my personality but I just dislike such activity. I dont know how 8 directions is better than 32 directions...
8 directions is easier to program of course... less options to take in account. And yes 1 of my biggest gripes of WE is that I can only move in 8 directions.

I have never said 2003 was a great game, in fact I have bash it quite a few times. so I dont know where you can say I am an EA fanboy... we are on the fifa 2004 forums so I talk fifa... when I am on the WE forums I only talk WE and try not to bring Fifa into account...

At the end of the day, all we really want are football games that have the best of everything, don't we? I used to play FIFA, now I play WE because it has less evils. If FIFA were to make a miraculous comeback, and WE maintained its position, then I'd get both, because I love football. If both games offered me a fair reproduction of what I can watch on ESPN and Fox Sports, and have at least decent features, then I'd shell out the cag for them both (ouch), and switch to the other each time I get tired.

We need both products to be good, so both can improve. And we the gamers will be the winners.
