It's true. The Cameroon international died during the match between his country and Colombia for the Confederations Cup Semi-Final, a few hours ago, from an heart-attack.

He just fell down on the middle of the field. The medics tried everything to help him, but they couldn't.

Right now, it has been announced on Saint-Denis, and some french players that knew him couldn't contain themselves, and cried. Gregory Coupet, Thierry Henry, Sidney Govou were the faces of sadness by the departure not only of a professional collegue, but of a close friend. A minute of silence was accomplished.

Here, I personally give my condolences to Foé's family.

Shouldn't the Cup be postponed. I don't think any of the Cameroonians especially can possibly play football at this extremely sad time. When or if they do resume I pray that Cameroon win for Foe.

Really the only sensible thing is to postpone the tournament. I am saddened, but not surprised that FIFA still ordered the France v Turkey match to go ahead.

Gregory Coupet looked as if he would rather be anywhere than in a football stadium.

Sepp Blatter has said on French television that football should show it's strength by playing the final on Sunday...if you ask me, the decision to play on Sunday (if confirmed after the France v Turkey game) would be totally disrespectful as I fear that such a decision would be in order to appease the sponsors:kader:.

is a plastic thing, just so he wont swallow his own tongue...

I think they need to start examining why this happens more and more often lately, in the usa, there have been more and more deaths in american football pre-season, also in baseball preseason, even in college practice... there is no real reason why a 28 yr old athlete's heart stops.. unless he had been taking performance enhancement drugs at one point during his career...

why wouldnt he be happy that turkey scored? If it was your national team you would have the same reaction if it was your team that scored to get back into the game... so.. whats the big deal.. someone died, we are all very sorry.. but the game is still being played.

and about the Fifa and Uefa ( both! ), you're a ****ing association! You only think of money and you sponsors and contracts, and not the players on the pitch itself. You guys make me sick after 11 september and the dead of Foé,the lovely games goes to crap with people on top at Fifa and uefa wich problably have never ever played football i think.
This lousy tournament should be postponed now, because a player died on the field! not in his hotelroom, but on the grass! Neither teams will care about winning the final so better postponed it!

IF I SAY LIFE GOES ON TOMORROW,that doesn't mean you have to stop breathing tonight untill tommorrow.please think about some respect. what you're posting here in this forum is everything but no respect to the player Foe. if you have no relationship with him, well go post somewhere else where you have a relation with. we don't care if you are postponing or not all your dates for tonight.

when i was watching the game and he was out of it on the side of the pitch i had this wierd feeling.

He was just there and they were trying to bring him back to life and he wasnt responding. I somehow felt something was really wrong. I later found out what happened and my first reaction was "damn." During the match he seemed like he was ok, this was truly unexpected.

He will be greatly missed by all of us in the soccer community and may he rest in peace.

I was talking to JJ, he reckons some of the Cameroon players have been playing since 2001 with little to no rest. African nations cup, Club games, World cup, now the confed cup...the strain is too much.

I've read about the number of fixtures some of the African nations have had to play in the last 2 years, and it is shocking, just another reason why the bigwigs at Fifa should be f*cked and burned, if you pardon my phrasing

What?! People who come here writing all over the thread how sorry they are for Foe and then start name-calling, swearing, stupid comments should really ask themselves "Am I really sorry for this guy?"

Just stf^ for one minute, pray for him and get back to your lives. Everyone has their own way of showing respect. If ya'll want to cancel all your activities, call off celebrations then fine, go ahead but does that mean you're showing the guy more respect than I am? BS.

yet again life shows its ugly side

Marc was such a nice guy in the game ... never caused any trouble and apparently everyone who ever worked with him are praising him for the man he was.

For those saying the tournament should be postponed... well I had that reaction at 1st aswell ... but when you think of it... Football is almost all these guys have ... and Probably most of the Cameroon players will want to play and win the final in the name of their lost friend.

ive watching SkySports since the tragic incident and hearing Harry Redknapp, MVF's agent talking was very touching.

exactly
If cameroon dont want to play then we should respect their decision.
And If they do also respect ... and France should go along with what the Cameroon team decide todo.

then again Im sure the players know better than any of us what the right thing to do is.

I was shocked when I first read this news, and I am still shocked by it now. It's hard to believe that a healthy 28yr old could die of a heart attack just like that. Tragic.

I agree that FIFA should rename the trophy to the 'Marc-Vivien Foe Cup' in memory of him, much like the World Cup is called the Jules Rimes trophy. I also agree that FIFA should consult Cameroon and ask them if they wish to play rather than just saying that the final will be played. It's disrespectful. If the game goes ahead then I will be supporting Cameroon.

Word has it that Man City are gunna retire the number 23 shirt in memory of Marc-Vivien Foé

I think heads should roll at Fifa for this, as I read that some of the Cameroonian internationals have had little rest periods for the last 2 years due to numerous international commitments, especially considering the heat they were forced to play in Mali in the African Nations Cup...I think this mysterious tragedy was the cause of exhaustion

Rigobert Song actually released the details of something Foé said at half time of the Columbia game, he said something about fighting for the game, even if it killed him...so tragically ironic how it did

football is in shock

You have to ask how a fit and healthy man doing something he does everyday can just collapse and die- it shows how cruel life is and how insignificant football is when something like this happen.

"FOOTBALL IS NOT A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, IT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT!" Bill Shankly...How wrong he was- events like this prove it

The fall was really weird, it was on BBC News last night, he was just walking along fine before plunging to the ground

Rumour is that the Cameroon national team are all gunna wear the number 17 shirt in his honour tomorrow for the Confeds Cup final
